Also, my real one! Err... well yesterday was my real one.
My 6th bnet birthday though =)

So, I just want to throw out a personal opinion here, and say that the rule on the bnet birthday threads should be removed.
As I understand, the rule is that your post has to merit some kind of discussion. I can see why that rule stands, but for the sake of a general sense of camaraderie, I I think these threads should be an exception.
The majority of us here in the current state of the site are here because we feel as if we belong to this community in a special way, and there shouldn't be any more need for conversation than to congratulate our fellow members on sticking it out with us another year!
Personally, I always love seeing these threads, and it always grinds my gears seeing them get locked, even though I understand where the mods are coming from.
So, how does everyone else feel about this? Am I the only one that thinks bnet birthday threads should hold a special place in the rules?

Admit it. There's nothing to discuss about a birthday. Especially a fake one. More especially a fake one that's not the 7th. EDIT: Now I feel bad... Happy real Bday, and I'm waiting for a glorious 7th bday post in a year. [Edited on 08.08.2012 9:35 PM PDT]

Here's to six more years, HALO3syourdaddy. *raises glass*
-
I don't see a problem with it. The threads will die soon enough if they offer no real incentive to respond. If they are active and no rules are being broken, then I don't see why they should be locked.
-
I think they should. Happy B-day. Real and fake.

Not the 7th BDay? Tsk, tsk, tsk.
-
Okay happy birthday.

I somewhat agree with you there on the topic of bnet birthday threads. There needs to be some specificity on what kind of birthday threads can be posted. Otherwise, this forum would be flooded with "Wish me a Happy Bnet Birthday" and "It's my Bnet Birthday guys!" threads.

Happy Bnet bday! I agree Bnet bdays are a special day. Honestly if people don't like them just don't post in the thread and move on.
-
Happy double birthday deathday skank!

There isn't an explicit rule against birthday threads. The rule they conflict with is:
- New threads should encourage a discussion among the community; please be mindful of that when you create threads.
It's really easy to follow, most threads do so without trying. If you're not competent enough to make a thread about any topic that isn't you, you really shouldn't be making threads.

This man deserves a medal for circumventing the rule by saying the rule should be removed. Pure genius. Stopped Foman pretty effectively. But yes, I agree with you, the rule should be done away with, but only for certain years, such as 5+.

Congrats on your 6th!
-
Congrats! And it's my birthday too!
-
Happy birthday, have a good one and get smashed and do something you'll regret in the morning.
-
I always forget about mine, (not my real one though :P)
-
I must admit, I've never seen a smoother circumvention of a rule before. I don't really have a problem with these kinds of threads as long as they're discussing something, even if it's the poster's personal observations of Bnet over the years. However, if it's just more or less "It's my Bnet Birthday!", then yeah, lock and warn the poster. Also keeping it regulated to "milestones" such as the 5th and 7th year birthdays would be nice too. Also, congrats OP.
-
I think there should be a 4 year minimum requirement to merit a birthday thread. Happy Birthday!!!
