Flood were better in CE

CE is the only game in the series where I would actually enjoy fighting the Flood rather than avoid them. They were fun to fight because they felt like crazy zombies with just basic instincts, which is what the Flood is supposed to be. I remember being bum rushed on levels like Two Betrayals and Keyes by dozens of Flood at almost every checkpoint, and it was a crazy fun experience. (anyone remember the clusterfk second chasm on Two betrayals? lol) In H2/3 the Flood felt more tacticle. Instead of large groups of Flood running at you at once it was more of small groups using basic strategies, which kind of killed the whole "zombie" feel from CE. Also I didn't like the fact that the Flood bodies in H2/3 did't fly around from grenades..... instead they just popped :( Thoughts?

 • True, though Halo 2 had some really cool flood levels, they were not nearly as fun to fight.

 • In CE, the first time I saw the flood, I was like 10, and it was like 2:00 AM, and It was the equivalent of Amnesia for me, so I never really got to look at the artistic quality of the flood.

 •
Posted by: Cmdr DaeFaron In Halo 3, and partly halo 2, their only difficulty came from being shielded, having a power weapon, and their general just numbers.
Actually, numbers are meaningless in H3. Hell, even power weapons don't make a difference. As long as the Flood are commanded by Gravemind, they're always going to be easy to kill. The Flood don't fire their rockets if they're up close. This self-preservation was nearly non-existent in CE, which made them very, very unpredictable and terrifying. Yet they were still susceptible to AI manipulation (i.e. firing your gun) and melee (meeling them stunned them) compared to these damage sponge delinquents known as H3 Flood. H3 Flood can be fun on Easy but on any other difficulty, they suck the fun right out of it. So what could fix them while ensuring fun on any difficulty? This: -Half Flood. They could act like infiltrators. -better senses, responsiveness, reactions -better movement, melee attacks -better aiming and rof, less damage (like Ranged Forms). In numbers they are better. Individually, they should suck but not as much as they do now. -lack of self-preservation when wielding explosive weapons -persistent berserking. That's what made escaping CE Flood so hard -make better Pure Forms or just get rid of them and replace with something else -better encounters, especially when they are allies. Just like Truth made the stupid decision of relying on standard Covie troops, a pack of Brutes, and several fuel rod gun Grunts, Gravemind made the stupid decision of sending in only 2 Tanks and a bunch of infection forms. Really, this has got to stop. I was expecting Two Betrayals esque all-out war, not a Noble Team-clears-everything-for-you-over-time battle -place emphasis on numbers. Flood appearances in H3 were pathetic. Squad after squad instead of waves and armies. I like having armies, especially if I can increase them!! -give Flood better prioritization. Flood infection forms often go for uninfected bodies. Flood infection forms often stay back if there's enough active combat forms. This is pathetic! As for H2, yeah, they did climbing and ran fast. The climbing gave me nightmares and I hope it returns. I used to sword cancel off of climbing Flood on High Charity to reach great heights.
Posted by: Cmdr DaeFaron Halo CE? Not only did you have to down them, they had a chance to get up, were tough to kill (unlike halo 3 where it's stupid easy to utterly destroy them with a single melee), and hand to hand? You might knock them down after a minute of solid melees. but they'll be back up.
No doubt about it. Also, notice the inconsistencies on Floodgate. How can Arby and I break Flood with melee easily but 5 Elites can't break a single unshielded Flood combat form with theirs? Really downplays the Shadow of Intent moment when you find your Elites all dead or as nothing but grenade spammers and allies to betray for their swords. It's a sad thing when I have to resort to doing these to help them perform better: killing all the Flood before trigger Shadow of Intent arming them with swords [Edited on 05.22.2012 9:35 PM PDT]

 • H1 Flood is the only version of the Flood I've encountered that were actually a tough fight. All over incarnations of the Flood were easy to defeat with headshots, sheer firepower or melee beatings. H1 Flood were impervious to headshots (making the Sniper useless) and unbelievably tough to beat down with incredibly strong melees themselves. Watching a H1 Elite fighting a combat form made me feel sorry for the poor Sanghelli, no chance up close. All other versions were easily overpowered in comparison.

I think the distance was just too far for it to control the Flood.
That makes sense. The recent Halo novels tell of as many as 10 Graveminds existing at once.

Bastards...
When you were on foot or in the Banshee? I'm not going to mention the Ghost because it's not hard to avoid them in that vehicle. The second chasm is easy if you trigger the rocket launcher Flood then flee and spam fuel rods from a distance. Also, I might be crazy saying this but maybe trying to splatter them all with the hog might work... if you get out at the right time.
I mean, mostly on The Library, where it was dark and you had too much Flood coming at you that most of the time you wouldn't even notice a freaking rocket flying and nailing you in your face.
If I'm not mistaken, there's a way to isolate the rocket launcher Flood in most cases, usually by killing off the other Flood first by drawing them to you. The rocket launcher Flood definitely needed a nerf. A slow start up time would have been sufficient.

 • I did like the Flood in CE, every time one charged at you if you didn't have a shotgun/plasma rifle/pistol you'd just scream "OH SHIIIIII-" before experiencing a death of painful proportions. On the other hand, I'd like to see the Flood at its full might, like the ones the Forerunners encountered during their war. A full-scale Flood invasion would be awesome to be in the middle of.
Thats not what the Forerunners said... Haha

Use the pistol to disarm them and make Flood buddies. The pistol can also be used to disarm rocket launcher Flood. It also has stopping power similar to H3's pistol -plasma rifles are prevalent, assault rifles should only be used if you want a challenge, needlers shouldn't be wasted on Flood unless there's a group of them -sniper and melee would be too cheap, although I agree the inability to kill with the sniper is a disappointment. Also, meleeing can temporarily stop a Flood from shooting or meleeing you
Posted by: Mark V guy The Halo 3 flood are the best. They are fun because they can be killed with almost any weapon now. If I don't have a shotgun or a sword I can fall back on melee which kills them in a couple of hits, unlike the previous 2 games
The nerfed AI makes them boring. Create half Flood and you'll see how terrible the Flood AI have become. If they were going to nerf the damage, they should have improved the AI but instead, they made them like Jackal snipers: slow, dumb-witted, slow trigger finger. Flood are no longer scary or dangerous. They're just annoying. Also, when you have bad Flood (unresponsive, slow, easily killed, small numbers) and levels with only bad Flood (that includes damage sponge Pure Forms), that results in a boring, frustrating mission. Even The Library was more interesting due to the fact that you could glitch it, skip parts, and use the AI to help you with certain things (Flood buddies, carrier forms). The simple fact is that Gravemind moments are evil and without speedrunning, using equipment is the only way to get past Cortana. In CE, all I needed was a gun, any gun could do (except for needler and sniper). /Zealot mode [Edited on 04.30.2012 5:42 PM PDT]

I think my favorite weapon to use against CE Flood was the assault rifle, just because it was one of the worst weapons to use. It makes killing combat forms harder, which makes that last stand feeling actually feel great. It also feels more zombiesh because your always backing up and firing loads of lead into them. Having another player with you and using assault rifle on flood never gets old.
Yeah, the AR of CE actually had a purpose. I dislike how it's a throw away weapon now. • Tactical my ass. The Flood in H3 were lame. I admit though, the Flood in H2 did seem tactical, but I think it's mostly due to their ability to use vehicles. Otherwise, they're just more aggressive and durable H3 Flood with some CE Flood properties. I concur though, that CE Flood were the best. I mean, you could shoot them anywhere and they would fall yet there would be huge numbers of them. Oh and they could get up after they had been "killed". Meleeing them also felt good because they were responsive. In H3, meleeing Flood just pushes them back if not breaking them. In H2 and H3, I wasn't happy about having to shoot at weak points ("head", limbs) to kill them. If I shot them anywhere else, I felt like I wasn't doing any damage at all. Unresponsive enemies are very dissatisfying. CE Flood were pretty good with their senses. I've tried hiding underneath a Banshee (you just got to position it right and crouch) at that 2nd chasm on Two Betrayals. Didn't work. I got pwned every time. CE Flood were also more entertaining to manipulate. I once stuck a combat form, showed myself then hid and it ran towards it's buddies. xD And let's not forget how Flood buddies were actually useful. H3 Flood buddies just get in the way. In CE, Flood buddies could be used to delay checkpoints. The only good thing introduced in H3 was that Flood infection forms can raise dead bodies of Covenant and UNSC troops. Sadly, there's a limit to how many bodies they can raise. Once there's enough, they just back off, letting the combat forms fight. The Flood have been dumbed down too much and are the predecessors of Reach AI, lacking responsiveness.
Posted by: Synyster Ricz They were a lot uglier back then too, but I liked that about them. I think it's more nostalgia goggles than anything else for me. Just meeting the Flood for the first time was heart dropping and exciting when your only in 6th grade.
Also I didn't like the fact that the Flood bodies in H2/3 did't fly around from grenades..... instead they just popped :(
I feel the opposite.
Their gurgles were legendary. I hate the new screeching noises. It's just annoying. Well I hated when their bodies crumbled. It meant Flood limbs all over the place, cluttering up locations and obscuring dropped weapons and equipment.
Posted by: ajw34307 I did like the Flood in CE, every time one charged at you if you didn't have a shotgun/plasma rifle/pistol you'd just scream "OH SHIIIIII-" before experiencing a death of painful proportions.
I did that every time too (then again, I also do that when I'm being chased by Goldies, Hunters, berserking Elites, and even Grunts. :P Enemies that dare to chase deserve commendation!).
