Bungie Staff at 343 industries

Ok, now i've heard different conflicting opinions on this, does anyone have an accurate amount + PROOF? The question is, how many staff who worked on Halo CE, 2 and 3, now work at 343 industries and are working on Halo 4? Obviously they have Frankie, which is reassuring, but i can't see 4 being as convincing as the others without the guidance of people like Staten, Marty and Jones.

  • To quote Achronos from a different thread:
Posted by: Achronos FYI: almost nobody who worked on Halo works at 343i (there are a few, but not many). You should post suggestions for 343i's community in their forum.
Posted by: CHRISPHUKITT Hopefully since many of the people who worked on reach are going to be integrated into 343 studios, it can be implemented on their forums.

I think there's enough parallel to make that fit here too.

  • I don't think that you're going to get anyone at Bungie to discuss HR matters and/or the career moves of their co-workers (or former co-workers) and friends.

  • I know Seth Gibson worked at Bungie before, then moved to 343industries just cause he wanted to stick with the Halo franchise. Also, Vic Deleon and Frank O'Conner were former employees at Bungie, and now work at 343i. Those 3 are the only ones I know about so far... [Edited on 06.09.2011 8:48 AM PDT]

They're all just rumors....I believe. [Edited on 06.09.2011 8:51 AM PDT]

  • Does it really matter? A handful of former employees wont be able to create the same type of gameplay and experience a whole company can.
No, but the few former employees will still have a team to work with, and who knows, maybe it will be just as good or better.
Posted by: The Dutchman Ok, now i've heard different conflicting opinions on this, does anyone have an accurate amount + PROOF?
No. Not anyone who doesn't work for one of the two companies, at least. Achronos has said there's only a handful. Anecdotally, other than the high profile moves like Frankie, I've mostly heard of contractors taking jobs at 343i after working at Bungie. So they wouldn't technically be leaving Bungie, just taking another job as always. I have no way of knowing whether Achronos was including contractors or not.
i can't see 4 being as convincing as the others without the guidance of people like Staten, Marty and Jones.
They certainly haven't moved over, unless Staten did so very quietly. I think he's involved with the core work on the next game, though.

It's whatever man. I don't think you'll ever really know. Besides, Bungie is such a unique developer there is literally no way you can expect people to make games the way that they do. I'm really looking forward to the Anniversary Edition of Halo (minus the way they redesigned Master Chief), and I'm not quite sure about Halo 4 yet. I hope that they don't make him look like he does in the teaser. It looks waaaay too much like Halo Wars.

  • If I wanted I could dig up a post about a day or two ago that Achronos posted where he said there were maybe like 5 guys from Bungie there.

  • Thanks a lot guys this has been a big help, especially the Achronos post. Well, i guess i'll just have to wait and hope they don't mar the series with a ridiculous change of narrative, although i'm glad Bungie still have a tight team, it saddens me to think that there are so few experienced Halo devs working on a game with the Chief's continuing story arc in.

  • Here is the the short list of people who worked on Halo 2 and Halo 3 and now work for 343i: Frank O'Connor Chad Armstrong (Shishka) Vic DeLeon Anyone, from Bungie's side, who has worked on the first Halo is not working for 343i ; Frankie did not work on Halo 1 since back then he was a journalist for the Xbox magazine. Some Bungie staff that worked on Halo 1 and Halo 2 left Bungie for other game studios and most of them are still at Bungie; they are the Grizzles Ancients. Betlama (Nathan Walpole) was working for 343i, however he quit some time ago. There are other people who have worked on the Halo franchise from Microsoft's side, and are now working for 343i. These people were never part of Bungie studios; only Microsoft game studios. For now that's all we know. So when people say "343i has a lot of ex-Bungie developers", they are ignorant. Shishka, Achronos and Urk have all confirmed themselves that only a small handful of people who have worked for Bungie are working for 343i. [Edited on 06.09.2011 9:48 AM PDT]
