If I remember correctly, at the end of the campaign, Keyes offers to let Noble 6 on the Pelican, but 6 refused, and stayed back, only to get himself killed. Why did he do that again?
EDIT: I remember now. I forgot that he had to man the mac gun to keep the pillar of Autum (bad spelling) from getting destroyed

If he'd gone with Keyes then the Cruiser would have glassed the Autumn before it could take off. -_-
have you even paid attention to the POA departure cutscene? N6 destroys the cruiser. That's where keyes' pelican returns to the hangar. Why didn't the pelican return and pick 6 up? There weren't anymore ships near the area. Don't tell me that 6 stayed behind just in case. In the cutscene, he left the onager, and watched the POA leave.
Have you even paid attention to the dialogue with Keyes? He says the Autumn's launch countdown has no abort, there was no way to pick up Six in time.
shaving off a less than 5 minutes to pick up an elite spartan couldn't hurt too much would it? his pelican wasn't in the poa yet, it's easily safe to assume it wasn't too far from the onager. And leaving behind a spartan when there was no wrong doing it doesn't exactly make sense, but I do understand that bungie did that to not break canon even more than they already did.

Some people don't like it because it's different from Nylund's books, but Greg Bear does a fantastic job of putting a revelation on every page and engaging the reader in a much more personal way because the novel is written in first person. Mendicant Bias storming the Forerunner Capital with the 12 Halos is epic (yes, there were originally 12 Halos). Whilst a lot of questions are answered, there are a lot raised too.
Thanks, I'll take your word for it :)

It's been a while since I've seen that cutscene, but I'm also pretty sure the PoA was already leaving by the time the Pelican got to the hangar.

Noble 6 stayed behind because there were still some covenant alive down there, and he could'nt have that.

While there is no actual in-game countdown clock, they were still trying to get away fast and they took advantage of the small opening they had. [Edited on 04.24.2011 3:09 PM PDT]

he needed to operatore the Mass driver cannon (the one emile was shooting) - if he didn't the CCS-Battlecruiser would have assaulted the autumn

I think the real question is... Since the Pillar of Autumn didn't launch until after Six nuked the Cruiser, why in the world didn't he just hop on board after the fact? Why did the Autumn leave without him?

Training for a spartan is brutal. When you finally become one there is no turning back. Your devoted to war. You live to fight, and will die fighting. And especially they couldn't of escaped with the MAC gun un armed.
