BOBS work like Halo: 3 skulls, since the campaign had no skull collectables, or collectables that reward the player something. 2. Halo: 3 had a huge mystery, the IWHBYD skull, and hackers ruined it fast. Bungie isn't going to make the same mistake again.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question: Are there any videos showing all the BOB spawn locations so we can hunt for ourselves? Answer: Yes, the following videos are NOT mine, but they show the majority of the BOB spawn locations and they are pretty straight foward. 1. Video Ten The videos above once again are NOT mine, but each video shows you pretty much every single BOB in the game and they are excellent.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I consider myself a BOB fanatic. Me and my crew HRS know every spawn, on every level, on every difficulty for BOB. I understand how he works, and how much it takes to kill BOB. Now, I think people on Bungie.net and people who play Reach aren't looking at the BOBS the way I do. The campaign had no skull collectables, and the skulls from Halo 3 unlocked armor, Hayabusa. I consider the BOBS to be "moving, interactive, skulls." There is a BOB on each level, and for the two levels (Exodus and New Alexandria) he is in a Banshee. (Proof: Under his description he is named as an Elite "Light" Vehicle.") I personally have killed one BOB per level on Normal, and now I'm two levels off killing each BOB on Legendary. Before I elaborate deeper, each BOB gives you a medal, Bungie is having a lot of daily challenges for us to kill BOB on Heroic+, and these BOBS don't just appear as you progress through the level, they also appear behind you. On Long Night of Solace for example, as you move toward the Sabre, turn around in the level and head back to the beach. You will notice the beach is STILL full of activity. Now here is the fun part, kill three waves on the beach of enemies, and watch each wave. Each wave gets harder and harder. On wave 3, and toward the end, BOB will randomly drop in a drop pod, and disappear within two-three seconds. Bungie has programmed SO many unique spawns for the BOBS, I doubt it's just for fun or nothing. BOBS descriptions tell you to "Wipe them out" "Seek and Destroy" and to simply kill them all. This is a reference to a Marathon Vidmaster, and to the secret of the BOBS, to find and kill them all on Legendary, just as you would wipe them out on Marathon. The Vidmaster also tells us to hit all switches and so on, but I think this doesn't matter. What we have to do Bungie.net is to kill ONE BOB per level, and make sure we get the "BOB" medal for each and every mission. This is why nothing has happened, because getting the BOB medal for the Banshee kills isn't possible. Yet Bungie states the BOB in the Banshee is a BOB, but it has NO pilot when destroyed and you don't get the medal. Hackers destroyed one of the most secret, long term Easter Eggs of Halo 3: The IWHBYD skull. This was meant to take AGES to find. Hackers ruined it pretty quickly. Don't you think Bungie would have stepped up their game against the hackers for Halo: Reach? This is my personal theory, the BOB helmet. Picture of the comparison here The picture above is of the BOB eye piece from Marathon, and this secret helmet. This helmet is on the disk hidden away along with the chest piece we have seen in so many pictures. The screenshot was from IGN and IGN does not fake screenshots for the public. This picture was used on the Dashboard and has had a lot of attention. BS Angel from the Waypoint forums told us that "She can't tell us how to get the helmet, that would take the fun away from finding out how to get it." (Summed up quote) I doubt this means it will be unlocked via a patch in the future, this means the helmet works like Hayabusa did, get a BOB medal PER mission on Heroic+ and you get the armor pieces. BOB has one-three unique spawns per mission, and they aren't normal spawns. Bungie has programmed some BOBS to be VERY hard to find, like the BOB on The Long Night of Solace. The secret helmet resembles the BOB eye piece from Marathon. Bungie is trying to help us along to killing these BOBS through daily challenges and is trying to bring attention to them weekly. The descriptions are to kill them all. BOB is VERY strong, probably the strongest enemy in the campaign shield and health wise, he flees, spawns secretly, and can vanish in thin air. He IS on each mission, and in a Banshee on two, which doesn't yield the medal for killing him. HRS [Edited on 01.28.2012 1:48 PM PST]

 • After many people bringing up the same questions over and over, and the same ideas over and over, I decided to take some time and write up a small FAQ regarding the BOB's. #1 Q: At the beginning of Winter Contingency I saw an invisible Elite running away! Was this a BOB? A: No, this is not a BOB. This Elite when killed gives you no BOB medal, and if you pay attention when you kill this Elite, it drops a Data Pad. This is the first Data Pad that is to be found in the game. Elites that usually go invisible are Spec OP Elites, and this is what this Elite is. It's as simple as that. #2 Q: What if you hi-jack a BOB Banshee and then kill the BOB that is pulled out! This would get you the medal for that BOB! A: This doesn't work. Upon hi-jacking these Banshees you literally pull nothing out of them. One of the only levels you can actually hi-jack a Banshee on is New Alexandria, and the Banshees for the most part are empty. The BOB Banshees on Exodus cannot be hi-jacked either. Hi-jacking these Banshees does nothing, and upon killing them, you don't get the BOB medal, but these Banshees do count as BOBs due to the fact that there was a daily challenge called Golden Tree City, asking us to kill the BOB in a Banshee on New Alexandria flying fast and low. #3 Q: Maybe you need 77 BOB medal or 777 or 7777? A: No, obtaining any amount of BOB medal does nothing. People have over 100 unqie BOB medals and nothing has happened. It's safe to assume that getting 777 won't do anything. #4 Q: Can Brutes act as BOBs? A: No, Brutes cannot act as BOB's. There has never been one Brute found that is "different" looking and act as the BOB's do. No Brute kill has ever yeilded the BOB medal, so searching for Brute BOB's is a waste of time. #5 Q: On Sword Base I saw a white Elite that uses random armor and duel weilds Plasma Rifles! Is this a BOB? A: Yes, this is the BOB for this level. ONI has this BOB spawn inside of the ONI Building at the end of the mission and in the courtyard at the end of the mission. This is the only BOB ever found that is not traditionally golden and a ranger. Due to this being the second level, it is safe to assume once again that Bungie started with a pattern they were going to use. They made a golden BOB on Winter Contingency, and then they made a white BOB with rotating armor on ONI, and then Nightfall was probably going to have another unique BOB but Bungie realized it would just be easier to have just golden BOBs on the levels and they left in the white BOB just because they didn't want to go back and take him out. #6 Q: How do you know if a Banshee is a BOB Banshee? A: As seen in the daily challenge Golden Tree City, we had to kill a BOB that was flying fast and low on New Alexandria. A BOB Banshee never stops boosting, it flies very quickly, and it's damage resistance is very high. These Banshees are hard to kill, period. Keep your eyes in the sky and always look for Banshees that act as I described above. Most BOB Banshees come into a level, and then leave the level a few seconds later. They don't stick around long, kind of like how the BOBs run away and disappear. #7 Q: How about Exodus and New Alexandria? Where are the "walking" BOBs on those two levels? A: Exodus and New Alexandria are the only two levels with no walking BOBs. These missions have BOB Banshees. New Alexandria has one BOB Banshee that spawns in at 5:00 and Exodus has multiple BOB Banshees toward the end of the mission. Are there walking BOB's on this mission? Who knows. You can search for yourself and try and find these if you like. #8 Q: If all the BOBs are killed, what happens? A: The BOBs do not unlock any new armor, this is a known fact since last month when Evil Otto confirmed that Bungie has never seen the BOB helmet. The BOBs, when the requirements are met, whatever they may be, may be apart of the huge missing Easter Egg from Reach. Only time will tell what exactly their purpose is. #9 Q: What about the Legendary ending? A: I don't know much about the Legendary ending theories, but it's safe to assume there is no Legendary ending. The BOBs have nothing to do with a Legendary ending, I don't see how they even could have something to do with one. #10 Q: How about sky jacking the BOB Ban... A: I all ready answered this question. • The BOB kills on Exodus or New Alexandria do not reward you with a Seek and Destroy medal.

 • Interesting. Personally I hope murdering all the BOBs will unlock the legendary ending (which I'm still hoping exists).

 • BOB's mean something more than just infantry to the game... Finding out what though might take more than a weekend.

 • The few times that I've killed a BOB, my xbox always "lags" for a split second and the system appears to make a lot of noise (i.e. fans spin faster) as if the system is computing something. This also happens when I get 100 kill without dying during Firefight/Campaign and I think Perfection in multiplayer. Maybe it's a coincidence, but the system could be sending signals to Bungie mainframes. Maybe in the end, it's how many BOBs everyone kills total (just like the challenges to unlock to ranks?). Just a thought.

 • One BOB medal per campaign mission, meaning the only levels left for a BOB medal would be Exodus and New Alexandria.

 • Or maybe it is like a community challenge? Like killing a certain number of BOBS for new armor?
Posted by: Evil Ottos FAQ Will we get a little extra something by beating the game on Legendary? Yes. Two things. 1. You get the achievement, "A Monument to All Your Sins". 2. The last level "Lone Wolf" is much harder and the enemy wave configuration differs slightly from the Heroic version. Sorry. That's it. If you don't believe me, beat the game on legendary and watch for yourself. I'm not sure why there is so much heated controversy over this issue since you can easily verify it yourself.
• These BOBS were programmed to be difficult to kill, and some you have to actually have patience and be clever. They are NOT just an enemy to kill or a reference, they mean something. People just don't put the time into trying different things and killing them. [Edited on 04.17.2011 2:29 PM PDT]

 • I have a BOB medal for all missions but Exodus and New Alexandria. No "walking" BOB has EVER been found on these two missions. Now, maybe you don't get a medal for the two levels and you just have to kill each BOB on Legendary, who knows. I experiment everyday with the theories. [Edited on 04.17.2011 2:30 PM PDT]

 • Exactly Duardo. These Banshees are more durable, and they act differently than other Banshees, but I'm not convinced there are BOBS inside of them. This might be Bungies way or throwing us off. So the theories are a BOB kill on each mission on Legendary, which I'm two levels off of doing. Or a BOB medal per campaign mission.

 • I'd like to point out that the Marathon Achievement was to "Play on Total Carnage Difficulty, punch all switches, and never ever leave a single BOB alive.", meaning that besides killing BOB's, you need to hit all switches in each level and play it on LASO

 • Updated post #2 with the games I have got the BOB medal on. Break my medals down to view once on the page. Gyohdon, on my website I have your theory all ready posted, and it's a good one. Maybe for just ONE campaign mission, you have to complete it on LASO, hit the switches in the level, and kill BOB on the level. Who knows? I'm tackling them all. :) Killing a BOB on Legendary in the final mission is next to impossible, though. :S

 • Its interesting, and about time someone colaborated all this information into one thread and that has been the best understanding of the mystery helmet i've seen so far Maybe the secret of the bobs has something relevent to their contexts, the "Born-on-boards", Sanghelli who have spent their lives from birth living and working on covenant ships. We havn't heard anything about this in any other aspects of the Haloverse, are they regarded highly? are they low class warriors for having no homeworld? Would such a context exist with the sanghelli being composed of male crew?
