Flood Relief

Hurricane Katrina has decimated New Orleans and surrounding towns along the Gulf coast. If you've taken a break from playing Halo 2 and watched the news lately then you've no doubt seen the horrible aftermath of this devastating storm. It's not often that we stray from topics related to Halo but in this case we felt the need to rally the members of the Bungie Underground Army to lend a hand to help those who have suffered through this disaster. What can you do to help? The American Red Cross is on the front lines providing shelter, food and recovery assistance to the thousands of people impacted by Katrina. You can help out by volunteering your time or making a monetary donation to support their efforts. More information can be found at the Red Cross website or you can donate over the phone by calling 1-800-HELP-NOW.

 • I would like to say, what you guys are doing is great, i sympathise for every one directly affected by the hurrican and floods. Living in the UK i havnt been afected, but we hear it and see it on TV all the time. I would have bought the T-shirt, but cos im in the UK shiping would cost $43, and i wasnt prepared to pay that just for shiping which isnt even going to the cause! i think il just donate direct to the red cross, disapointed at not geting a tshirt tho. would have thought bungie would make it more easily accessable for people in the UK wanting to help. Hope you all get the help you need and that this t shirt thing is actually working, its bringing the whole comunity together!

 • Hey, It's me, LilCalvin again. Just wanted to give another update again if anybody's interested. We left Houston two days ago and came to a small town in LA called Carencrow right outside of Lafayette, LA. We're staying in a house owned (in the process of being sold) by a lady my dad knows through work. She was gracious enough to let us stay here for as long as necessary. The funny thing is, my dad never met this lady in person, just talked to her on the phone. And I feel kind of bad. Not that I've lost everything at home, But at a time like this, when people have nowhere to go, let alone nothing to eat, I and my family (17 people, 4 dogs and 2 cats) are living kind of nice. A very expensive home with a pool(not working), hot tub (working) and 4 car carport. But it wasn't furnished so we're sleeping on air matresses for as long as we're here. We decided since we're gonna be here for a month or 2, we had a few utilities hooked up (cable, internet and phone coming soon). It kinda is starting to feel like a second home with no first home anymore. The people of this community have helped us out so much. Every day we've been here, people have stopped by to bring us something, whether its clothes, some bed sheets to use, even some old washer and dryers. In fact, the people helping us out are coming to throw us a little party tomorrow with alcohol and cajun cookin' in tow. I, no we, are indebetted to them for the rest of our lives. We'll be ok. the only one who i worry about is my brother who is still in New Orleans. To my knowledge, he should've been able to get away from the Superdome and to Belle Chase NAS for a day's rest. We don't know if he's made it there yet. I honestly am woried about him. It's getting scary over there. For example: I heard this through word of mouth, but, in St. Bernard Parish, where I'm from, supposedly there are about 100 firefighters and their familied holed up in a phone company central office. they can't leave because there are escapees from the parish prison who won't let them. I'm scared because it's things like this my brother will have to go out and deal with soon. Some good news - I heard that the water is starting to recede a little bit in the city. No word on my parish. I also discovered using Google Earth that my work is ok (anybody who uses google earth will have to download some updatd pictures, check the website). I was able to see the new RvB. Absolutely excellent as always. Thanks to everybody for your continued support. It's been a couple of days since I have been able to check the website and it's amazing what people are doing. And mad props to Bungie for the shirts, I like. I would like to ask a favor. I know everybody is scouring the internet about the hurricane and the affected areas. Should anybody come across and info and/or pics on St. Bernard parish, speciffically the Violet area, please send them to me. You can PM them to me, AIM Screen Name LilCalvin3 or email at phathedod@yahoo.com. p.s. the mods can edit this if they want, but to the stuck up guy who said he refuses to help in any way, shape or form - -blam!- YOU [Edited on 9/3/2005]

 • I bought one of the t-shirts as well as donating some additional money, im giving blood in a few days as well. To the people that lost people close to them and/or belongings, I hope the money I donated can help you in some way, and i am sorry for your loss. All of this charity work that bungie and the gaming community have done (and will continue to do) shows that bungie and its community are the best out there. Congrats and keep up the good work guys! we can make a difference [Edited on 9/3/2005]

 • I find it not only important to help New Orleans, but in this time off need we should not forget about our troops in the Middle East and "we should stand up and stand strong as americans". Let us now take a moment of silence to remember those who have died here at home and in the Middle East. May god light the way. STAND STONG AMERICA!!!

 • Poor people. I heard a story about an 18 year old boy who stole a school bus and saved nearly 60 people. Good job man. I hope GOD is with them in this time of need. They get my prayers.

 • I'm only 15, but I will try to contribute money and prayers to the flood relief. I have never been in a hurricane (since I live in Nebraska) so I can only imagine what they are like. I once visited New Orleans 5 years ago, and remember what a spectacular city is was. It's sad to think it will never be the same again.

 • I would like to know if these shirts can be shipped duty-free to Canada since they are for charity. I would hate to spend $60 on a shirt, knowing that $40 of that is going to a bank and a corrupt government in Ottawa. ($20 + GST + exchange + 100% tariff is the usual rule..) If a way to avoid this "officially sanctioned looting" can be found, I'll be getting one.

 • I live 50 miles off New Orleans and it's not horrible here. We have no cellphone reception, no phone lines work for a long time, and power goes out from time to time. last night was my first night in my bed since last week with family coming to get an air conditioned bed. And I'll be lucky if I get it 2 nights next week.

 • I'm buying a T-shirt and sending the link to do the same to all of my buddies who aren't on live and don't frequent this site but play at home with their friends. I'm probably going to circulate this around my church for ALL of the guys I game with. I'm also going to send them the information about the upcomming auction. that auction was a GREAT idea. I'm really proud of you guys (bungie) for stepping up. I was going to write you guys a letter today about this, but you beat me to the punch. This disaster is heart breaking. It's hard not to just bawl when you see these kids under a year old in the arms of people they don't know because their parents have been washed away or are just missing. It's hard to fathom what these people are going through. We're all so used to seeing these disasters in the movies. I don't think anyone but the people who are there really understand what the devastation is really like. God help them, and let us help. A large chunk of the helpdesk I work on is going to volunteer. Some are going to tulsa to man phones. Others are heading down to mississippi. I am the sole income provider in my family of three (soon to be four), so buying a T-shirt, participating in the auction, and spreading the word are the LEAST I can do. I hope everyone else who is unable to travel will do the same. There are a LOT of fans who don't read this site. Spread the word.
