This really only applies to the PS4.
I was looking at The Taken King (ttk) trophies the other day and noticed that only 20% of PS4 owners that have Destiny have completed ttk quest (silver trophy).
My question is, Has Destiny lost 80% of their PS4 player base since ttk launched?
If so, then that would explain why Bungie have implemented the refer a friend incentive.
Edit:- I've said the following before on previous posts;-
"It's the reward system in video games that keep players hooked. (And I'm sure that Bungie know this).
If the rewards are shit, then people will stop playing, simple".
Edit 2:- Come to think of it, the Destiny trophy list is combined and covers both PS4 & PS3.
Edit 3:- I used to love Destiny. My friends and I used to play religiously every day.
The grind that the game has now is just to time consuming for what little reward a player receives.
I have only one friend now that plays Destiny on a regular basis, the rest of us have now moved on to (dare I say it?) Fallout 4 and Star Wars Battlefront.
-
It's simple really. Only the truly addicted remain. Those with zero self control who became legitimately addicted as Bungievision designed the game to be. Everyone else has seen the game for what it is a fraud based criminal enterprise. A game built to suck every playe's wallet dry with completely useless garbage.

Actually BO3 and Fallout 4 came out. And Fallout 4 has so much better weapons to earn than destiny
-
What happen to the court of oryx, you can literally sit there for hours n not a single person comes by
-
Destiny has been out for a year now compare those other new games with destiny once they have been out for a year
-
I quit destiny because of the DLC's, Destiny loses content.
-
Wait till borderlands 3 is announced.

I've noticed most "casuals" on my list have stopped playing, which is normal a couple of months after launch. But, more alarmingly, even the hardcore players have dried up or even stopped too - the guys that used to always be online, and always on Destiny. I finally got a hard mode helmet last night, so apart from the challenges (and getting RNG drops of the new exotics) there isn't much I feel like I want to do. And I would consider myself one of the hardcore players too.
-
I have quit playing, simply because the RNG sucks, the grind sucks. Tired of doing raids just to get Molded shards. Infusing weapons constantly that i get at 280 or even 300 now is a huge chore. I'm playing Fallout4, Need for speed, I may even think about Battlefront... But I'm sick of the masochistic joy Bungie must get from seeing players just waste their valuable time. I was promised better drops from RNG. Never happened. I got 4 Monte carlos, 4 Telestos, and the same exotics over and over. #Bungielied

I think it's like that on the Xbox side as well. I'm and Xbox player and I barely log in during the week if not at all. And when I do it's no more than an hour.
-
It could be higher than 80% honestly. I can't remember the last time I logged into Destiny.. probably at least 2 or 3 weeks ago. To be honest, I don't know why I'm even on these forums right now other than killing time while I drop a deuce... I got into Destiny at release with 5-6 RL friends and not one of them has logged in since Fallout 4 came out. If my experience is even a little bit common, then the real number might be closer to a 90% loss. Up until a month or so ago, I was part of the community that would defend this game and say things like: "they haven't released everything yet, it will get better." I'm curious to see the real numbers comparing actual new players with lost players.
-
I firmly believe that one of the reasons Destiny had retained the number of players it has over the last year or so is due to the real lack of competition. I can't think of any other game (on consoles) that came out between September 2014 and September 2015 that could've really drawn away the player base for an extended amount of time. That has now changed and Destiny really has stiff competition from a multitude of games not only now but in the new year some big titles are expected. I really hope Bungie manage to ignite interest in Destiny once again, but I believe they will have to really pull out all the stops to grab their player base back. There was a natural lull in interest between DLC released in year one, but I believe the lack of interest from players is different this time. Gamers are lapping up the AAA games released recently and Bungie will have to pull their finger out to draw back interest and ultimate give me and plenty of others a reason to part with more money.
-
Bungie won't make those changes to make the game fun or give what we been asking on the forums and add ideas to the wish list. If grind had lead to better gears and weapons which we can infuse to make the gears and weapons to higher light level. Oryx raid is more time consuming part where trying to find people then some will quit or kick other players out. Bungie could just give us more content, quests for PvE players who only PvE instead making PvP requirement.
-
They did lose players but not 80% of them.
-
No probably not 80% exactly :)
-
last night most of my friends list (PS4) were on other games, even though a new raid mode was out the 3 or 4 friends that were on were doing PvP

Edited by MastaMyndz: 12/3/2015 10:36:50 PMNormally i would do everything 3 times a week then i stopped with nightfalls u know why then i realise light doesnt matter in trials so i stopped raiding now i only play trials weekends also year 1 kept me playing over and over again because of last word.. the guns now year 2 are pve based so i dont have interest for it i hope queenbow will be back
-
I wouldn't be surprised 2 weeks after the taken king launched alllll my friends that I know in person stopped playing... A Complete dead stop. I'm more of a hardcore player than they are when it comes to PvE so I continued awhile longer. I ran hardmode every week 3X a week. Got all my characters to 310+ it was at that point I really took notice to how broken the reward system is and how bungie lied about wanting to respect the players time ...again. So about 9 days ago i quit playing altogether. They majorly -blam!-ed shit up with the taken king IMO.

Star Wars Battlefront and Fallout.

Edited by sonny2dap: 12/2/2015 12:14:34 PMJust a wrongheaded approach to the game at this point, Fallout 4 for example wasted no time in getting you into decent gear, you get a decent story (as far as video games go) a massive world to explore that genuinely feels like its lived in and allows people to immerse themselves, fallout 4 did this great job of offering you direct exposition with the main quest whilst coming across little micro stories that feel like they either just happened or happened many years in the past and you're left to piece it together from the evidence bethesda have left, similar in a way to From software's approach with Dark souls and offering small snippits of lore to leave the player base to fill in the blanks. Destiny by comparison offers up quite frankly fantastic control inputs and a great feeling of control and motion when playing, sadly it fails to back up the solid controls with much else, the lore in game is quite frankly so sparse as to not be there at all, up until TTK the story was completely MIA. Crucially Bungie has flipped flopped too often on whether it does or does not want players to have a great say or agency in how they play the game. It almost seems as though Bungie knew they were making a loot shooter but then didn't like the idea of too much loot, essentially by throttling the loot streams and directly tying loot to progression Bungie forced the entire player base into adopting a "most efficient" style of play as supposed to the which style of play do I have most fun with model, this looked to be changing with the addition of etheric light which was then effectively removed.
-
Nope maybe 10% gone for good or less still tons on and most are casual trophies don't matter u will notice if it starts to die when it takes forever to find a group right now it's still only like a 30 sec wait
-
Rewards are $hit then players won't play. And guess what?? They made the focus all about max light gear. Only one place to get that max light gear and it's too random from drops sooooooo I say the rewards (max light gear) are trash $hit and NOT worth wasting my time. IMO.
-
They got us all with TTK... Now it's feed us back the content they took with TTK until Destiny 2. Watch them reintroduce the old gear, raids and strikes with updated light levels and call it new content. It'll happen, and they'll pretend we should praise them for it.
-
Your interpretation of the data is misguided. Look at skolas trophies vs. Kings fall completions.
-
Got the witcher 3 for $22.25 (i only paid 2.50 for it though thanks a psn card a friend bought me) and have been playing it for 2 days once my work is done and i don't even know where to begin in that game, its huge! I come back to destiny as i type and first thing that happens is i get weasel after hopping to orbit on login. I don't get bungie sometimes. All i want to do is play pvp and kick some asses but even that has become a task, but i am still trying to get on. I can understand why people are leaving in waves, and i'm seeing it in the clans im a part of and on my buddy list. They will never get it, it's sad. Their lack of player communication, the grind, slow development, lack of dedicated servers and shady business practices will keep pushing people away and as an alpha, beta, day one, top tier 1% pvp player even i'm starting to get sick of destiny and bungie as a whole. I will always come back and play pvp, because i am good at it but nothing else is keeping me around.
-
I think the fact that they refuse to report the number of active players suggests the number would be surprisingly low.
-
House of wolves got it right - I didn't have to play not knowing my reward in order to level up. I could log in see what the weekly armor was a play to obtain that to level my character. I could then go and enjoy the parts of the games I enjoyed like crucible. TTK doesn't do this and is too catered towards people who can sink their life into the game . VoG was fun Crotas end was frustrating but rewarsing. Kings fall is just frustrating with little reward and try hards.
