Wesson the Warlock Chapter 2.13 Could've Gone Better

Wesson had gotten another drink and sat back in his chair. "Good job Wesson." He looked over at Ravyn as he drank. "You got one girl passed out on your couch, and another who is pissed at you because of the one who is passed out. Is there anything I'm missing?" Just then, he could here a door open and shut. Geneva came into the room followed by Aristotle who struggled to fly in a straight line. "Whoa." He said as his shell scraped the wall. Geneva looked around the room. "Where is Lucia?" She asked in concern. Wesson didn't even bother looking at them. He just raised his bottle, took a drink, then set it back on the arm of the chair. "She left half an hour ago. Where've you two been this whole time?" "Nothing! We did... Nothing!" Aristotle said nervously. Wesson looked at him suspiciously then continued drinking. "After how today has gone, I don't even give a sh*t." "Oh dear. I hope she's okay." Geneva said as she flew straight to the door. Wesson watched her fly out as the door opened. He shifted to his right to get a better look. He could barely make out the figure of a person sitting on the front door step, but the Sun shining in made it difficult for him to tell. He walked over to the door and opened it. Sure enough, Lucia was sitting there with her chin on her knees and her arms wrapping around her legs. Geneva was trying to console her. Wesson sat down beside her. He could see her tears glisten in the mid morning Sun as they ran down her cheeks. He opened his mouth as if he was about to speak, then he decided against it. He looked down at the mostly empty bottle in his hand, then offered it to Lucia. She looked at it, then at him, and took it. She put it up to her lips and drank. "Thanks." She said as she stopped for a breath. "No problem." Wesson said as he looked at the horizon. He sighed. "Today has been pretty weird for me." He looked at her. "How about you?" Lucia just looked straight ahead and drank some more. "It's been fairly stressful." "I can only imagine why." Geneva said in an accusative tone as she looked at Wesson. "Geneva would you mind giving us some privacy?" Wesson said as he put his arm around Lucia "And why would I do that?" "Because Art would like another go." "Oh please. He would need a longer time to recharge before he is ready to go again." "Sooo, how do you know what his rate of recharge is?" "Well..." Geneva stopped when she realized what he was saying. "Mind you're own business!" "Then leave." Wesson said as he waved her away. "Fine." Geneva said as she floated back inside. "I'll just go inside and clean the apartment then." Wesson watched as the door closed behind Geneva. Lucia looked at Wesson. "What was that about?" "You don't want to know." Wesson replied. "What do you mean, 'I don't want to know?'" "I mean, I regret knowing." Wesson said before changing the subject. "That's not the point. I came out here to say I'm sorry." "Took you long enough." Lucia mumbled. "I know. I would've come out sooner had I have known you would stop at the front door step." Wesson laughed. Lucia gave him a menacing look to tell him she was not amused. "Yeah, I'm sorry that was a bit uncalled for." Lucia raised an eye brow. "A bit?" "Compared to what I said earlier, yes." "Do you even hear yourself when you speak?" Lucia said as she started to lighten up. "Sometimes..." Wesson said. "On the rare occasion, yes." Lucia smiled. "You are absolutely horrible at apologizing." "Well, you know, I don't do that sort of thing very often." Wesson said jokingly. "I can tell." Lucia said. The two laughed as if all was well between them. Lucia relaxed and laid her head on Wesson's shoulder as he wrapped his arms around her. "Why do I put up with you?" She said while looking up at him. Wesson thought for a second. "I don't know. Maybe it's because I'm handsome, and charming, and I have a great sense of humor, and..." "...And you're vain, you can be an a**, you're full of sh*t." "Wait, hold on. I thought we were listing the reasons 'why you would want to put up with me?'" Lucia continued. "You also make it impossible for me to stay mad at you." "Yeah, I do a pretty damn good job at that don't I?" Wesson said proudly. "Yes, you do." Lucia said as she reached up to stroke his beard. "And at the rate you tend to piss me off, you will always have excellent job security." "Well, you know, I was actually thinking about asking for a promotion. Are there any positions available?" "There is one, but your performance will have to improve before I can offer it to you." "I can work with that." "I know you will." Lucia closed her eyes so she could enjoy the moment.
