Character Level and Light Level... what?

Can anyone clearly explain how your Light Level (0-310) and your Character Level (0-40) influence your damage to enemies? I know that if you're a L40 taking on a L41 there is a 32% damage penalty to you. But then, how does your Light Level factor into the equation? What if I'm a L40/296LL taking on a L41 enemy in a 260LL mission? What kind of damage can I do? So there's a 32% damage penalty to me because of the Level difference of 1, but since I'm a 296 in a 260 mission does that mean that the damage percentage penalty drops from 32% to say 22%?

    • I believe if an enemy is 300 light you will not do any more damage after your gear/light is 300. The light level of the enemy vs your gear is max damage at equivalent or higher light. Example: you are 312 light and your enemy is 300 recommended light. You will do the same damage as a 300 or 312 because you achieved the recommended light. This is why you can't one shot a lvl 200 light recommended captain, etc while patrolling on Venus even though you are 300+ light.

character Level (1-40) determines what kind of gear you can equip. Most of the most powerful gear require level 40. Character level also serves as an access requirement for certain activities. Light Level determines you damage and defense values. Higher light means more damage and higher defense against enemies.
