Why I quit Destiny -- and my review of the TK expansion

I am now quitting Destiny, for the following reasons: 1) The TK expansion has made all of my gear obsolete. Above all, my favourite hard-earned exotic gear and raid weapons are now obsolete. Where the hell is my Year 2 Icebreaker? Where’s my replacement for my VoC primary weapon and HV rockets? To replace any of my now obsolete gear is a considerable grind, let alone my entire obsolete inventory. I can only equip two exotics -- everything else is obsolete. Losing Icebreaker takes so much of the joy out of this game. 2) The TK expansion relied excessively upon milking existing maps, as a substitute for new content in the new missions. I paid £40 for this expansion. I won't make the same mistake again. When I pre-ordered the ultimate edition of the game on the first day it could be done, it came with the expansion pass which included the previous expansions, and they suffered from the same problem. 3) Bungie has betrayed their most loyal fans by favouring PlayStation over Xbox. 4) The grind has been too repetitive, especially on Xbox (see 3). I quit Destiny once before, after my raid team had killed Atheon a few times, because it became a grind, just repeating the same missions every week. I bought TK a few days ago after weeks of indecision, eventually deciding to give Bungie another chance despite the price tag. Perhaps it was slightly less repetitive for PlayStation players with their greater variety of missions and strikes (see 3), but I am on Xbox. Indeed, I have been a hardcore Bungie fan ever since the first Halo game, but the studio has now turned its back on its most loyal fans, like one of those special deals that banks have for new customers that p*** everyone off because they’re not available to existing customers. My review of The Taken King is not all bad. Finally, we now have Destiny content with a more solid and coherent story. Finally, we now have characters with a bit more… character! The TK script is entertaining, ingeniously balancing comedy alongside the more serious dialog. Having said that, TK expansion bosses, tanks and baddies look strikingly similar to the old ones. Indeed, the whole concept of the Taken seems to be to re-skin all the old enemies instead of creating new ones!
