PvP endgame vs. PvE

This is by no means a rant post. This is simply adding feedback to hopefully fix a problem. You can go on my profile and see I am by no means a PvP player. I dabble here and there but I mainly play pve. This being said, beating the raid being the only source for endgame level equipment is a tad one sided. Pvp players have no source for 310+ gear and why shouldn't they?? This game is geared towards a pve player base but claims to care about PvP. There just isn't and PvP incentive in my eyes. If anyone had a VALID argument, please comment so we can have an intelligent conversation. Edit 1: just a counter argument to a few of your points. How can someone get into the pve endgame content without the levels people are requiring that you get FROM the endgame content

  • I am a pvp player. I rarely have the time to commit to a full raid. Sadly this game is turning out to be a pve centric game as even the major pvp events (IB and ToO) still tilt advantage to those who run pve. Etheric light was a good system. I was able to creep my way to 170 (or 365 or whatever it was back then). This allowed me to participate in that endgame PvP. Now it's back to the old raid grind way and I don't have time for that. For those supporting the new way keep in mind by shutting out players like me the playerbase for IB and ToO shrinks. A small pool of players means longer wait times and higher latency issues.

  • Pvp players should run the raid for high gear. Because pvp is a minigame in destiny. Pve has priority. Pve should have the only gear to 320. Trials could have 310, and id be okay with it. Just because trials is endgame pvp. Trials is recommended 300 right? Why do you need to be over that then, if trials is end game for pvp, if you dont want to raid? You can hit 300 without a single raid. If you dont want to run oryx on heroic, you have no reason to go over 310. Or even over 300, honestly. People are just so entitled in the community.

  • Peope will be able to get high level gear from ToO. I think people need to stop saying stuff like this. I don't think it's the right mindset. Think of other games, if you don't do an aspect of a game you get punished. That's why I think most quests that give you a PvE boost should have a PvP element and visa-versa. I don't think people get punished for not doing PvP but I think that will change with ToO with (hopefully)good weapons. But then again, going flawless isn't supposed to be achievable to the average player. But then again again, there are people that are utterly trash that go flawless because they get carried by streamers or people on the forums. I'm just rambling at this point I'm done

  • My only thought here is that the game is geared towards a PvE playerbase. The game is full of lore and story. A ten year plan that has a player keep the same character the entire time says that they want to tell a story. Frankly, PvP does not tell a story. In the larger fiction, Crucible is supposed to be a training ground for Guardians in order to go out and fight the Darkness. Ergo, if you only play PvP, you don't need higher gear to fight each other, which is why in most crucible modes light level doesn't matter. You only need higher levels to fight harder enemies. Guardians are not your enemy. As for the crucible modes that light level DOES matter... Well, those are for top tier players. If you are skilled in PvE AND PvP, you are a top tier player. Higher gear can help you play well in crucible, but ultimately it's your skills that determine whether you win or lose. Maybe it doesn't seem fair, but this game is not battlefield or cod. It does not cater primarily to PvP players. It cares much more about the lore and story of it all. Plus crucible largely does not change between dlc's, aside from weapons and some patches. PvE changes majorly because that's what the game is about. New raids, strikes, storylines are why most people purchase dlc, not for crucible. Bungie wants to sell copies, and the promise of higher gear from a raid will sell copies. I just think that focusing on any one piece of the game without playing the rest is narrow minded and a waste of money. Offering the highest level gear in PvP won't encourage PvP players to play PvE.

    • They need to better split pve and pvp. Stop making pvp players raid and stop making pve players do pvp.

      • Trials of osiris my friend. I'm more of a Pvp guy id rather shoot guardians in the face then oryx. I'm sure trials gear will be 290+ with lighthouse gear being 300.

There's a fine balance that needs to be kept by keeping the game accessible to everyone, but still rewarding the players that consistently clear the hardest content. People are already complaining that HM KF feels irrelevant, it would be even more so if you could get up to 310 gear or 320 for that matter from IB. Trials is a little different, I think the trials gear you get from 5-7 and flawless wins should be 300 +. I think Bungie are trying to make us move away from the "must be max level" way of thinking, which is fine. But the hardest content should still reward the best gear. I think at its core the new light system is good, but it definitely needs work

          • While some may disagree, Destiny is not about Pvp. I see it Destiny should be played like this: get players to do story missions- level up- do end game raids- finish leveling; take your treasures and skills you learned and fight in crucible to pass time for more content

            • I think lighthouse rewards should be 310. It's hard as hell to get there as an average pvp player. Just like oryx hm is hard to beat.

              • That would be cool to have PvP gear that did go up 310+. But question is how is it going to be delivered/earned?

Why not have pvp gear and pve gear that you get from the events? Basically, give some perks that are unique to pvp only and are only useful there? I know WoW did it when I played a while back. Basically, quit with the one size fits all thinking.

I would be surprised if Trials gear from the lighthouse didn't drop at 310+.
