For anyone who has done the quest for The First Curse, good on you! It is not extremely easy, and takes multiple steps to get through. Plus, you end up having to beat a bunch of sweaties with their matadors and messengers in Crucible with some crappy test weapon with a 1+ second TTK. You earned it.
Now that you have your First Curse, I know that there is a bit of disappointment gnawing at you. It's slower firing, AND takes more shots than Hawkmoon, AND it has lower range AND lower stability AND a slower reload and why did you do this again?
Because you should be getting a rampantly bad-ass head-shotting Cruci-baby killing monster machine, right???
So, I propose a small change to the perks on this gun. There are two possibilities, really, that follow the supposed "intent" of the gun.
1. Add luck in the chamber (and final round if you're feeling frisky) to make the gun a periodic 2-headshot kill (TTK- .50 SEC). Many people had this roll on Ill Will or Timurs Lash during year one. It made the guns fun, rewarded a skilled hand getting consistent headshots, and was absolutely not overpowered (not one nerf request for either gun, even though they have significantly better base stats than The First Curse).
OR
2. Add additional bonus damage to precision hits to make this gun a consistent 2-headshot kill (TTK- .50 SEC) without rewarding sloppy body shots.
What do you think?
Edit- changed tags
Edit- it blows my mind that no one seems to care about this gun
Edit- added "OR" to make it even more clear that not all of these changes should be implemented
Edit- For those concerned about the Thorn comparison, I would like to note the TTK difference. Two shots for Thorn, ~.36 seconds, Two shots for First Curse, ~.50 seconds. Also, the poison.
The ill will and Timurs Lash roll I referred to above was basically a guaranteed two-headshot kill, but the slow rate of fire and high penalty for missing balanced it out.
Another idea I have seen elsewhere is to activate the First Curse perk on precision hits rather than kills, and add a small stackable damage bonus per precision hit. That would reward precision with a 2-headshot kill, punish body shots, and also make it more viable in PvP for overall damage. I think this idea is much more unique and interesting than the others.

You have barely fired hand cannons, and your accuracy is below 50%, why should we take what you say seriously? I have just acquired the shell of this gun, the second phase, where you have to get the Crucible kills, and JUST from my initial outings, I can see that this weapon will become beautiful, once it ascends to the exotic. As it is right now, First Curse is THE high impact/low ROF hand cannon that all others of the same archetype will be measured. I had lamented the loss of my beloved Timur's Lash, but I can see now, that this gun will blow that one clean out of the water! The only issue with First Curse, is the chances and no hopers that are using it. Too many people rely on properties, when in regards to hand cannons, gun skill is the only property that is required. . High impact/low ROF hand cannons have a different stance to every other type of hand cannon. you move slower, more elegantly, you are laid back. Few understand that to succeed with these types of weapons, you have to slow things down. Many guardians are caught up in the time to kill, when they should embrace the moment to kill instead. This gun as it is will wreck, but only in skilled hands.

I just would like 10/11 shots

For the shit you have to endure to get this gun it should pack a punch similar to a full broadside from a WW2 destroyer. Even then i would be feeling shortchanged.

Edited by want 2 b pro: 10/29/2015 3:37:26 PMA gauranteed 2 shot head shot would be a little overpowered don't ya think? I mean you are basically asking for a thorn 2.0 and god forbid anything like the thorn ever make its way back into the crucible...
-
No. No more 2 shot headshot handcannons. This would make it infinitely better than hawkmoon, at least the crit multiplier. And luck in the chamber whould just make it worse hawkmoon. In my mind, the gun is just a failed concept that should be left in the dust, like dragons breath. Id vote for a damage bonus while the first curse perk is active, so its only a two shot headshot after the first headshot kill.

Edited by WhiteFu: 10/29/2015 3:06:25 PMI like your ideas but honestly litc is Hawkmoon's gimmick and this weapon seems designed to reward skill rather than luck. I think if they remove the accuracy nerf from hand cannons you'd see this weapon much more in crucible. If that doesn't happen, namuHtoN below has an excellent idea of a small damage buff after the first precision kill. Either way I love this weapon and it narrowly skirts being very powerful.

Jeez, how many times do i have to say it? The first curse does NOT need to be buffed. This is going to be thorn all over again.
-
I'll let you know when I get it, since taken king I've stopped using hand cannons, and they were pretty much all I used in year one. Only exceptions are hawkmoon, and ace of spades is fun and pretty decent too.
-
What about maxing stability since it's a gun made for head shots?

I would assume not a lot of people have this gun yet, which is why we are not seeing more of these. From what I have heard it is extremely underwhelming. I get the second part of the quest tomorrow.

I'll be getting mine tomorrow.

Bump. Weak weapon for all the effort we put into getting it.
-
-Make the first curse perk increase precision damage when active -Buff mag size to 9 That would fix it
