Destiny Weapons and Exotics need a serious reworking

I've played Destiny on and off since it came out. Taking breaks and coming back when other games got old. In that time I've seen the weapons of this game degrade in ways I can't believe. I've never played a game before where the newest and shiniest gear is just disappointing compared to the old ones. Most weapons in The Taken King are just disappointing, even the weapons that are objectively good are completely joyless to use. There is not a single weapon in TTK that is half as fun or good as the ones from the Vault of Glass. Nothing comes close to having as much awesome factor as the Vex Mythoclast, even post nerf. Even post nerf Vex is still better than most guns in Crucible, if you have the skill to use it. The only weapons from TTK that don't follow this rule are swords, which are very very fun, good, and cool. Also elemental primaries are gone completely, not counting the Zhalo Supercell. The loss of re-rolling weapon perks was idiotic and makes 99% of all legendary weapons completely worthless. If everyone is re-rolling weapons to get a particular set it doesn't mean that reforging is broken it means that your perks are broken. No one wants a weapon that gives them a tiny amount of grenade energy when they can have something way better like more range, stability, ammo, damage etc. If people could pick, those perks would always be chosen over inferior things like new magazines on super. Make perks that people want really bad, and then put them in the same slot. Don't make junk that no one wants. The loss of elemental primaries is sad because there is no longer any incentive to play to the shields game. Right now a Raze-Lighter attack uppercut will kill basically anything that isn't an Ultra. I'm not saying swords should be nerfed, but there just is no incentive to use any elemental attacks against shields at all. I also don't want to hear this BS argument about primary elements making nightfall's too easy. No modern NF comes close to being as hard as Archon Priest with Arc Burn. Nightfall's haven't been hard for a long time. The worst part is that exotic weapons aren't even cool anymore, nor are they really worth collecting. They aren't even as good as their legendary counterparts in many cases! The Touch of Malice and Sleeper are the only ones that are even abnormal, the rest just feature unique abilities which are more or less gimmicks. The Telesto and Chaperone are both bad for the same reason, they aren't useful in any capacity in PvE. You don't get enough ammo to justify using them, and they just do outright inferior damage to a sniper, even a legendary one. Outside of PvP the Telesto's delayed explosion is basically pointless, and its orb generation is not useful unless you're fighting something super weak like a thrall. The Chaperone suffers from as similar problem. Its perks could potentially be awesome, if you had more than 20 shots. What's worse is that most enemies that aren't super weak anyways won't die in one shot, even a headshot. The Chaperone can be really good in PvP but its perks are absolutely worthless. The only good one is the slug ability, and then its debatable if the weapon can be even useful compared to something like a Conspiracy Theory or Party Crasher. Get three kills after a precision kill to get 2 shots back? I question if anyone anywhere has ever gotten that in PvP. I realize that many of the Vanilla (year 1 no dlc) exotics aren't really that special either, but at least when they came out they were way better than the legendary ones. VoG weapon exempt. Its really a shame that such a cool idea doesn't result in cool weapons. You want to know what exotics should do? They should leave an impression, and still be better than legendary weapons. I can run zero exotics (despite having basically all of them) and not feel like I'm losing out. I want guns that do bizarre things. How cool would a gun be (perhaps a heavy) that generates an indestructible barrier that you and your allies can shoot through but enemies can't. But it takes time to put away and you can't move while using it? Or maybe a sniper rifle that gives you the ability to scale walls and create a sniper perch up higher than you could normally go or allows you to hover in mid air while aimed (hover doesn't stop unless you stop aiming). Imagine a gun that lets you gain control of non-major enemies and control them for either a limited time or until they die but limited range. What could be done with exotics is actually limitless, and I'm sad that the most creative they have so far in year two is the Touch of Malice. What does the rest of the world think? Are you tired of Destiny's mediocre weapons, especially its exotics or do you find using Hung Jury for every situation enjoyable.

  • Supercell, No Time, Spindle, ToM, Sleeper are the only guns worth trying to get. Everyone of these guns are uniquely powerful in their own way and do things differently then the other. After that everything but a few choice exotic armors are not even worth the weeks it takes to get them.

  • All the guns do feel very similar, they all shoot slow now. With there was a few Prime Elementals. Kind of Hoped the 3 Class exclusive Exotic ones were Elemental.
