Yeah my loot at the Daughters despawned for me as well. When the game revived me I ran towards the chest and it disappeared along with the engram that was next to it.
I know Bungie can give items to players as they gave the Halloween pumpkin heads and the weapon for Christmas. I hope they can provide compensation this way but as they say...we cannot restore lost items or characters.

I didn't have this happen at a chest but in a Strike an exotic engram dropped. I had to deal with a yellow bar add really quick but when I went to pick it up it was gone.

The Daughters chest should stay until oryx is summoned. Just now I spent an hour or two on hard mode daughters and got nothing because I thought I had more time on the chest. I'm not saying Bungie owes me, but I don't want that to happen again.

Now that I have had time to get over it and think reasonably, yeah you're right. I just hope it doesn't happen again.
