NEED HELP FROM EXPERIENCED HUNTERS!

So I've decided to take a break from my Titan and play as my hunter. Now, I have lots of difficulty using the throwing knife, especially in PVP. So shaxx gave me a quest to get 15 throwing knife kills in the crucible, and at this point I'd rather find 45 calcified fragments since that's way easier. Any tips on how to successfully score throwing knife kills? Edit: Thank you all for the replies! Adjusting to another class' abilities isn't so easy

Its pretty much just a case of practice makes perfect. The more you use it the better you'll get. I've seen some people saying to go on patrol and practice which is good advise. But I'd also suggest doing some PvP and just using your knife as much as possible. Don't worry about guns or supers or grenades, when your knife is ready use it. You may have to take a hit to your k/d (if that bothers you) but its worth it. There's nothing more satisfying than landing a mid air precision throwing knife kill!

Seems you've got plenty of replies already but thought I'd share what I used in case it's of any help. Obviously max Strength as much as you can. Run Knife Juggler and Gambler's Dagger. Now a popular thing I've seen is running Hawkmoon, if you have one, because it does a lot of damage with a single shot and anyone will die from a headshot of a knife after 1 HM hit. However if you're not super confident with being able to do that consistently, I'd suggest Monte Carlo, again if you have it. It restores melee energy very well which is useful if you end up missing throws. A throwing knife headshot does 158 damage so you only need to hit them with a couple of MC shots for them to be weak enough to die. (This is by far the hardest melee challenge of any of the classes, did the Titan ones in 2 games each vs 8ish for throwing knives)

      • Use a hand Cannon or a pulse hit them once and throw the knife.

      • The perfect situation... So imagine you're coming round a corner reloading as you go. The first thing you see is an approaching shotgunner. You're still stuck in the reload animation and your opponent drops into a slide. BAM throwing knife. Right between the eyes

      • Before you read this, discard all acquired memory of what you learned about the throwing knife. None of that matters anymore. What I will teach you requires the strength of the mind, Body, and soul. You need not a sharp blade, it shall be dull, this is what you will use in your training. Now grip the knife, find your target. Now you just calculate, be the target, think their every step. Before you know it you look at your hand, prepared to throw the knife, but it's gone. What happened? You look up only to see a Fallen Vandel, lifeless laying on the ground, with a blade in its head. You take the knife from the corpse expecting to use some force, but it slides out smoothly. You look at your reflection in the blade, and realize, it's as sharp as can be. Your training is complete. That, is the secret of the blade. Mentor new guardians with your mad throwing knife skillz and mock scrubs, while holding down dregs, giving them face tattoos against their will, the face tattoos of Mike Tyson

      • The throwing knife honestly is a reflex. If you try to open with a knife or have it dead set in your head that you will throw the knife, you will probably miss a ton. It's your last ditch effort to get the kill when your gun fails you. http://xboxclips.com/Thienen/2283250b-3575-4093-9d45-258bb1fedc4e It's your accidental trick shot when someone is charging you from odd angles. http://xboxclips.com/Thienen/16537d23-f21f-466e-b519-2e4007b85639 Its a satisfying post-mortum when the burn kills the one who killed you. http://xboxclips.com/Thienen/5a508cde-7773-4c0c-afae-1ebc7a08c93c It's a hilarious accident from realizing you had the wrong weapon for the engagement. http://xboxclips.com/Thienen/bb20fb8b-325e-4e6d-b8e9-cee512aa90ff And every once in a while, its your cocky kill. http://xboxclips.com/Thienen/308d45f2-455c-40d8-b25d-cc79fa7336cb I know this sounds awfully Yoda, but you have to become the knife. You have to train yourself to use it as your last chance. You have to make yourself stand your ground and line up the throw instead of jumping around trying to avoid death. Best of luck Guardian.

      • if you treat the throwing knife like a shoulder charge, then with little practice you'll get it down. It seems that the travel time on the two, and in turn the amount that you have to lead on a moving target, are about the same.

        • Use the perk that refills your knife after a precision knife kill And carry an extra knife Practice on my the Dark Beyond Mission lots of mobs to knife train on with no fear of death Longest knife kill streak in PvE was 45 Crucible was like 8 in Shores of Time Venus Control Aim slightly high and left you should be fine With the adjustment to the knife refill perk wait like 2 seconds so each kill replaces a blade --- and your aim assist comes from your equipped i.e. Weapon I suggest a sniper during training and a scout or HC for Pvp

        • Use a high impact hand Canon. Head sit than knife throw. Remember travel time and arc, but mostly just get used to it by practicing

        • Sealed ahamkara spine , go into mayhem and pop in with a highist impact hand cannon, shoot one to the head or body and a throwing knife should finish it off, happy hunting ( get it )

        • Aim your primary just before you throw it. Not full on aim down sights, just very quickly press the button that lets you. This does something that makes the precision hitbox a little larger

        • Put on hawkmoon, shoot once to the body and immediately throw a throwing knife. If the knife is a head shot it will kill 100%.

        • Throw the ability that has a burning effect onto the throwing knives. Pop a shot into the enemy and throw a knife.

        • Use a sniper? Throwing knifes are your goto for people rushing you with a shotty... Put one burst/bullet into their head, throw a knife at their head... PRO TIP: IMMEDIATELY after you throw the knife back/jump away... Also rushers tend to run straight at you so it's easy pickings

        • Before you go ham in PvP, enter PvE (Cosmo is best) with, knife cool down reset on critical kills; and two knives (if you're that far in the tree or have Aham grasps). Try to use just your knives against thrall, dregs, acolytes (low tier enemies) for like 30 min, run some low level missions or something , while Guardians aren't as easy as a thrall to pop, it is good practice to the Throwing Knife rookie. That's how I built up skill... But it was also my main class until HoW. Hope this helps.
