Halo 2 Worldwide Champion
The Xbox Live sponsored Halo 2 Worldwide Championship kicked off several months ago as players in 24 different countries began competing to crown regional winners. A series of mini events continued throughout each country until eventually one single person was chosen to represent in the world finals.
Today the finals took place over Xbox Live in a series of matches that would separate the best of the best and set the stage for the grand finale. While nobody at Bungie was in attendance for the finals, our contacts on the Live team did pass along some information regarding todays games.
The final pool of players came down to Japan, Germany, Netherlands, USA, France and Australia. The player from Japan won his heat giving the American, Aussie and French players their second loss and eliminating them from the competition. In the following round, Germany suffered their second defeat setting the stage for a Japan vs. Netherlands world finale.
Apparently it was a close match but King Tuur of the Netherlands pulled ahead and never looked back. Congratulations to Mr. Tuur who becomes the first ever Worldwide Halo 2 Champion and also the proud recipient of a 50" Samsung DLP HDTV, a Samsung DVD Player/Recorder, a personalized world champion trophy (featuring a 24k gold Halo 2 game disc) AND $1,500 in cash. Good stuff.

You may have your Ogres but here in Australia we have out clans all equally as good as most of your top clans, so if you ever VS a clan named Perfect Play, HaC or Australia Watch out, And im sure the other Country's also have their clans as well, while your clans are talked about All the time and you all think your the best because your America you have to make sure everyone knows u have the best teams, hell im laughing at how many of you are saying We would have won if.....IF this IF that, wait till next year if there is another tournament then proove yourself america. Congrats to King Tuur, but he is not the best halo player in the world. He didnt have to go up against people like Zyos or either of the Ogres. Obviosly the USA wasnt represented with its best players. I am actually friends with one of the players that took part in this tournament (ll cable ll) who represented Australia. He has played with both Tuur and Zyos and himself said Zyos is twice the player that Tuur is. I cant personally say which one is better since I have not played with Tuur before.

Im going to drop a classic line JEALOUS! We did it once before when STK kicked the worlds ass at Halo 1. America has the best Halo 2 teams(-blam!- 1v1). There should be a 2v2 and 4v4 halo 2 world championship.

HAHAHAHAH the dutch finally grew some ballz!! Bring it on a LAN anywhere with the actual best players who actually have gone to other tournaments and won. and find your players Tuurd or whoever and well see who is the real best player. I guess thats why Darkman was the best at one point in halo 1 at the halo nationals. I would bet money that Tuurd or whoever else would get totally obliterated by the real professionals. If you feel differently then speak up this is MY opinion if you dont like it then too bad. BTW if you talk all this garbage about america then boycott the xbox and its games made by america like halo.....Im sure your life would go back to worthless in no time. I just want to know the levels of all these dutch people im curious if your just defending one good player that ever came of your country. I played terry 15 in slayer before he standbies like a noob its a total joke he was picked....bungie im so dissapointed mcgavin could have owned him like nothing and no offense but hes on the 3rd or 4th best team in MLG and no you dont always have to just use br its just nice and eliminates a lot of people power weapon whoring. Can you say what a garbage tournament? Who would play in a tournament over XBL? only the dutch knowing their superiourly -blam!- connection would aid them well. Why is everyone ragging on Mcgavin when he would probably dominate with smg or br or pistols whatever beloved bungie decided to make into a gametype and put it online. Maybe America wasn't represented well because us that are good decide not to play MatchMaking because of the standby or modded crap or rocket team slayer and stick to playing where the good people are... IN CUSTOMS. Oh ya did I say that the tournament was such garbage that probably 90% of the people posting including me didn't know about it until I was bored and decided to check bungie and saw this crap on here about some dutch winning something besides a pile of horse -blam!-. P.S. Be happy for your videogame titles while we will take the much greater prize of being the dominant country in the world maybe we should go to war about this coz the dutch winning is bull -blam!-.

Well, I'm surprised and glad that XBL actually used a dedicated host. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I really don't think Halo 2 is a really good 1v1 game, especially default settings, but if you're gonna 1v1, Wiz/Warlock is the place to do it, so props to them for doing that too.

Once again McGavin proves that he has yet to grow up and that he enjoys giving the MLG a sour name. I'm quite happy that nobody from the MLG cult gave this contest a shot because: a) It's their way or the highway. Meaning if you don't play their setting... then it takes NO skill. b) If they had entered and lost they would have lost all credibility and only had Matchmaking to blame. It's sad that so many posts on this topic consisted of "Americans suck, etc." I say great job to Tuff. Nuff said. Hats off to you.

good job tuur but i always think that it was a little stupid because people under the age of 18 werent allowed in, i mean i know i would have no chance but there are a lot of good kids out there that would ahve given him or her a run.

Good job King Tuur, but I think that the entire event is screwed up. Xbox Live Matchmaking should not be used to determine the best players from each country. The only way to find the best player, and this isn't foolproof either, is to have sanctioned [b]LAN[/b] tournaments. This would test skill rather than cheating or boosting rank artificially. Also, this might be a stupid question, but why is there an age limit of 18. What if they best player was younger than 18? Thats all i have for now...
