Raid Etiquette

I come from a different game with an entirely different mentality, Dust 514. A free to play (that is honestly FTP, don't need to pay to play) on the PS3 made by the same people that made EVE online. We have this thing called planetary conquest, 16 vs 16 organized battles for control of planets in the EVE universe. The winners are often not determined by the individuals skills but by how well the players can work as a team. There is a lot going on so one player is determined as FC (fleet command, a term from EVE) as the directer of the entire battle for one side. We have a lot of comms chatter, but when the FC speaks, everyone shuts up and listens. When you are told to go to a point, you go. You speak when needed, calling out enemy positions, your situation, ect. We are going for a WIN and if we can't work a cohesive unit, we lose. Useless chatter not related to the game at hand or even at times blaring chatter about the game at hand can cloud the situation and make it hard for the FC to determine the best course of action and get those orders out. In destiny, we have SIX people that need to work together as a team to accomplish the goals at hand. SIX freaking people. Yet somehow, with the numerous groups I've been with, these 6 can't manage the simple tasks laid out in front of them. Often you get 2 people talking to each other, one asking if everyone is ready, one that still doesn't know what to do, and the rest doing flux all AFKin in the back. When we do somehow magically go to start the event, we still have people just chatting away. And the children in this game. Kids, shut up and listen. So a few things to help beat this content: Designate a leader: Pick one guy, preferably someone with some amount of experience. This guy will be the one designating each persons role and controlling the flow of the event. When he/she speaks, shut up and listen. When he/she is working through the roles, the only people speaking are the one's being spoken to and the leader. Cut the Comms chatter: I personally don't mind a bit of chatter. But if you are constantly talking before the event starts or during the event about something totally unrelated to the task at hand, you will do nothing but fail. Sure I can understand if everyone in the group knows exactly what to do and when, this isn't relevant. But if you are consistently failing shut up or get out. You will be amazed at how much this will help. Silence means you are all on the same page and ready to tackle the objective at hand. Clear comms and keep them clear so each member can effectively communicate. Identify the weak link: You are going to have under performers in the raid, that's a matter of fact. So point them out. I'm not saying bash them and tell them how much they suck. Offer critique's in a helpful and respectful way. Change their role if needed and see if they perform any better. If all else fails though, you may have to kick them. I know it seems like such a terrible thing but I'm honestly not going to sit in a raid for 5 hours and still not accomplish the task at hand. I work for a living. If I'm personally holding the group back I have NO problem leaving for the sake of the group. In the end, communication is the difference between staggering oryx and making it to the next cycle or not even managing to get far enough to stagger him. Just last night I was with a group and people were just non stop talking. The guy starting the event kept saying is everyone ready. Eventually I simply told everyone to clear comms until everyone went silent. Started the event and made it all the way to the shade of oryx, the furthest we had made it all night. And all it took was for everyone to shut up and get with the program. (then everyone had to go eat dinner for some reason, but at least we had a good run) Feel free to add!
