Strength of the Pack Ch. 1: Assault on the City

It was like the wall was hatching them. Thousands attacked the neighborhoods that hid in the wall's shadow. Stealth vandals assassinated the civilians while captains led dregs to plunder the homes. Walkers turned buildings to ash like they were nothing. Servitors began hacking into the power grid and our communication center. People of all kinds: humans, exos, and awoken ran in fear as keen eyed snipers picked them off one by one. I stared out the window in horror! "Get to cover! Go down to the basement! It's the Devils again!" I yelled to my little brother, Conner. He ran down the stairs screaming for me to follow. Guardians flew from the Tower to fight off the enemy. Squads deployed all around the City. Titans setup the front lines as warlocks backed them up. Hunters being hunters, they snuck around to ambush the Fallen. One captain leading a pack of vandals marched down the road... my road. The captain seemed to look straight at me. His stare pierced my soul, I began to collapse on the inside. The captain turned back and raised his sword to claim victory. A low rumble shook the ground. As the noise grew louder, a devil walker came around the corner of a weapons shop. Its main cannon turned towards my house and a laser appeared on my door. "Conner, stay down there. I'm coming," I screamed as I ran down the stairs. "Alan, what's happening?!" screamed Conner through his teared up eyes and trembling lips. I patted his head. "There is nothing to worry about, just stay calm," I whispered in his ear. A window used to let light into the basement shattered as a loud bang filled the air. A shard sliced my eye. "Ahhh!" I shouted at the top of my lungs. I covered my eye so Conner wouldn't see the blood. I looked out the eighteen inch window to see star ships flying over. I watched as two striker class titans crushed the walker. A defender class titan came to back them up. When skiffs arrived to drop reinforcements, he deployed a shield of void around them. Then, a warlock came into view. "Four members in a fire team. That's a little odd," I thought to myself. Five skiffs dropped more Fallen. These impossible odds, what looked like a thousand to one didn't stun the guardians. In fact, they got better as the fight raged. The sky turned grim grey and lightning fell from the seemingly clear sky. "Get off my lawn!" screamed the titan as he used his super. A bright flash blinded me, but only for a second. I blinked a few times waiting for my vision to correct itself. As I looked out the window once more, a wall of dust burst through. I dusted Conner and myself off and walked upstairs to get a better view of the situation. "Conner, stay here. Give me a minute," I said to him as he followed me up. "Where is it? Where is it? Where is that hand cannon?" I asked myself as I dug through the drawers. It was our only defense. A revolver a guardian would call a "white weapon". The fire team ran off, but I noticed that one titan stopped and turned around. He pulled out his rocket launcher and fired to the sky. Not knowing what he was shooting at, I instinctively ducked behind a table. I peaked my head up to see him running away as well. A skiff crashed very close to my house, I ducked in fear. Something else crashed as well. A Devil captain fell through the ceiling, quickly finding his feet! His calls were like deafening sirens. I shot all six bullets, but they were nothing to his shields. With no other options, I grabbed a kitchen knife. The captain lowered his swords as he looked at my weapon. If Fallen could laugh, he would he would have been on the floor. "Oh, come on! I have no other choice!" I jabbed at him, but he was fast, faster than me. I jabbed at him one more time just for him to dodge it again. This time I got the knife caught in the wall. "Uh oh!" I tried pulling it out. As I was doing so, the captain swung for my head. Inches from hitting me, I managed to duck under his sword. Finally, the wall gave my knife back. I went to stab his leg, but the captain cut my right arm off at my elbow. "Ooowww!" I clenched my now missing arm with a cloth I found on the table. The cloth was stained red immediately! My bleeding ended quickly, the arc blade cauterized the clean cut. I kneeled down crying, almost excepting my fate. "Alaaan?!" Conner, hiding in the shelter below, was just as scared. The captain walked towards the door, looking for the source of the scream. I looked around for the knife, it was on the other side of it! I took a fork and stabled the captain's knee, as it bellowed in pain, I stumbled to the knife. I wasn't giving up yet, I couldn't! I picked up the knife and continued fighting. I swung for his head, but he took his swords and held them in a V formation and caught my knife. With one of his free arms, he took a dagger, commonly wielded by dregs, and stabbed my stomach. I gasped for air as my legs slipped out from under me. The captain raised his sword for the killing blow to my chest. As he reached as high as he could, someone shot the sword from his hand. Seven more shots went to his head, dropping the captain. My vision turned black and hazy, but I saw a robot kneel beside me. "Hey! Hey kid! Hang in there! Can you hear me?" he asked anxiously. A ghost popped up beside his head. "Amputated arm, scarred eye, blow to the liver. He'll live but we must hurry!"
