What are games you love that are good, but not universally loved?

I dont mean games like mass effect, mario 3, ocarina of time. I mean games that gave a different kind of experience, and despite its flaws, was still good. For me its chrono cross. Yeah the game had a lot to live up to being in the shadow of trigger, but its still an amazing game, with great combat, characters, and a great story. Did it fall short, yeah. But its definitely a worthy game. Another one would be ff8. People pan it because its too emo, the pixelated graphics were bad. But if you put time into it, the characters become amazing, a great story to boot. And triple triad <3

I dunno if it counts as a flaw but MGS 2. People(my 13yo self included) hated the fact we played as a no name, girly looking, pissy character known as Raiden. It wasn't until I played the HD version that I realized that the entire game was a jab at the audience at the time, and social commentary about the advent of the internet. Even now it sticks out to people as the weirdest/least favorite MGS game. EDIT: I'm 20 now btw
