The question has been in my head for a while but I haven't thought much about it until as of late , but does anyone else think that bungie is progressively making destiny easier? Vault of Glass was a grind and we all knew it, before Dark Below (if you had the game before then) it took weeks or even a couple months of grinding to get even one of your characters to level cap. Getting the armor was hard, and I actually really liked how hard it was. Sure it was annoying when your friend got all his armor in two raids and it took you two months to get boots, but it was a challenge and something I always looked forward to doing the following week, I loved the thrill of seeing what items i would get. In Dark Below all of that hard earned raid gear was basically made obsolete when towers venders started selling stuff better than it. I still looked forward to trying to collect all the armor pieces from the new raid but was pretty disappointed when I saw how much higher the drop rates were, only took a couple weeks to max out on 2 characters. The raid its self was fun and challenging(for a level 30) but the drops just felt like they were being handed out for free, it took me half the time to cap out in this dlc than the game, and it kinda made me sad. When House if Wolves was announced and etheric light was shown I was ecstatic, etheric light sounded like something you would have to really work for. These hopes where let down the Friday that trials of Osiris started. The Poe had been fun (the first few times I tried it) but I lack reason to get back to it because it just doesn't have anything of use anymore. Sure you could grind it for shaders and ships but I wanted more than cosmetics, I wanted power for my guardians. Trials of Osiris was an easy way to get 9 etheric light in one week for my friends and I so we were left with all maxed out characters within 2 weeks of the dlc being released, I can't say that any of us where thrilled by that. House of Wolves was an easy way to baby beginners from low levels (25-30) to higher levels quickly. Knowing that this probably brought in some new players and made those who play it less often enjoy it more, it did little to nothing for experienced players who wanted a Challenge. I can say with conviction that I haven't been so hyped like I am for The Taken King since they announced the release date for Destiny. Being as hyped as I and most others are, I already learned about upcoming features from various outlets, and I can only see more of the same problem when it comes down To leveling.Although bungie is quite clearly fixing most of the major things that were wrong with destiny, I don't think it was necessary to render all of our weapons and armor obsolete in PvE, again. The boost to level 25 seemed like a nice thing to do if it was only one per profile so I can't give a complaint for that. The new strike looked amazing and the new features are sick, but than you see that they are making something a little easier again. This time it's the nightfall, although that's definitely very minor in the grand scheme of things, players notice it. The nightfall was intense, death to your whole fire team meant you had to communicate with your fire team more and had to coordinate armor and weapons better, without that fear of losing, what's there for us to conquer? I realize that the change is a very minor change but it was the spark that made me want to make a post. What are your thoughts? Feel free to say whatever, I just wanted to see what other people feel about the difficulty of the game. Edit: I realize that from a business standpoint that they are attracting a larger audience, and what they are doing is smart, that's not my question. I'm just interested in how the gameplay feels to the individuals who respond. And stop correcting my use of to instead of too, I get it .-.

  • Getting? It's always been pretty easy. Though my favourite game/s before this was dark souls.

    • Bungie had to make Destiny easy, 90% of the people who play pretty much suck. Why do you think this forum is littered with nerf and give me gally posts? If they kept it as difficult as it was in the Vanilla.. Half these Scrubs would have rage quit ages ago m

      • It's always been easy. Trials introduced some challenge to the game. Which will be even better once Thorn is toned down, and final round won't be able to be abused.

      • It's catering to a more "casual" audience now

      • They need to appeal to a wider range of players and that means making it "easier". Otherwise, the majority of the player base goes away and along with it, MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. They cannot afford to lose their player base and lose money, this is a "10-year franchise", remember?

There's a difference between real difficulty and RNG that makes you continuously replay the same raid which you steamroll through every week just to get 1 missing armor piece.

          • Not surprised that the game has been getting easier. That's what you expect out of a company that is being used as a puppet by Activision. The easier the game is, the more players it attracts. Most players just bitch and moan about not getting what they want and how no one will play with them because they suck etc. So Bungie makes the game easier to allow these spodes to finally get what they want. Bungie will unfortunately forever cater to the bunch of cry babies that have shit to always complain about, because if they are happy they will buy more shit later on. Too bad bungie signed a contract for the life of the game.

          •
Bungie wants it to be a game for casual players. Basic reason, there are more casual players. They think catering to people like us will please a small part of the customer base, catering to casuals will please a larger group. But - and this comment is not Bungie specific or game specific - it is hard to attract millions of casual, occasional customers when you have hundreds of thousands of hardcore or formerly hardcore customers telling everyone who will listen that you are dishonest, cynical and shortsighted. And that is what Bungie has needlessly created for itself. If they wanted a game for casuals, they could have made that clear last year, and saved a lot of us a lot of time.
• No ot sounds like we have to do the raid before we can access new heroic strikes etc.

            • No, it is not too easy. Crucible is harder than it has ever been, while defeating skolas is more challenging than both crota and atheon.

You don't know how the change to modifier mechanics will affect the experience. Also, for lost people nf was always something you breeze through, which won't change for those people. For those who had a hard time, I'm guessing they'll struggle now as well, just less annoying when you wipe.
