Is the traveler actually evil?

Through the weeks I've been looking through YouTube and found some interesting info. It seems like the old version of destiny had the traveler being evil by gaining energy through the worship of a species it's just saved. Am I not mistaking this for the game right now? Then your guardian would be the only one gaurdian to know this. Your character would have to find the only other who knows this, an npc known only as the crow. you and him together would defeat the heart of the traveler. Now in an interview with game informer Luke Smith was asked if the traveler was evil. He responded with a long pause and then said "it's too early to talk about that." This leads me to believe that the old game would actually have been the full ten year experience of destiny in one game. This is why you were able to see in game images of the reef before the game even launched because that is where you would have gone after defeating the traveler because it was not safe to be at the tower anymore. What do you think of this info? Is the traveler something good that saved us at the last second just to save us or is he just sapping power from the last of humanity's praise?
