How Many Feel About Recent Developments

Base: " We want you to be Legend, create stories with your gear. When someone asks you how you got that sweet launcher years from now, you'll say: 'Let me tell you a story'. [Hey, that sounds neat!] TDB: "We want you to move on, explore the new gear as you grow. You'll find new favorites to replace the old. It was never our intention for gear to be carried through for 10 years." [Interlude for internet rage] HOW: "Making gear obsolete was a mistake, we realize this now. We want your gear to grow with you, we understand you have favorites and we want you to be able to use them and be part of your legend, if you want to use your Fatebringer on your journey, you can" [Yay! Let's grind for Etheric Light!] TTK: "Look, we never intended for you to have the same raid legendaries, legendary weapons and armor. Our job as developers is to create new favorites that naturally replace the old ones, as you move on." [But...but...you said...] Hmmm....what I wish is that they would make up their minds. Pick a plan, stay with it so I know what is a waste of time or not. This seems too much like: "Keep them happy, keep them playing until they get all the stuff. Then we force new stuff to keep them playing some more." Not that I am opposed to this, but I just want to know. Like, what should I be doing? I just played HOW, grinding away for light then...BOOM...it's all pointless! EDIT: These are not actual quotes, but paraphrase of the ideas they expressed at each juncture. The Solution: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/146113293/0/0/1 NOTE: The original is here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/148138486/0/0/1 and was done as new thread per multiple requests. Edit 2: Think this is all whiners being salty about their assumptions? Check the Dec 4th Weekly update. Edit 3: For the counter that we just want to use old stuff, and it would stale and boring. All this seems to be decisions based not on player contentment, practicality or fun. Rather, these changes seem more about data, player metrics, DLC sales and getting players to play more frequently. The primary motivator is profit not player. Profit is good, but when you pursue profit above everything else players eventually get tired of it. Removing choices from players (particularly in an RPG slanted game) is BAD. More choices is fun. We don't want there to be only one way to play..remember? Of course, once the 15th hits and we see it in the wild it may be great, and all this flip flopping may "click" and we'll get it. So I still am getting TTK, but my tolerance for this non sense is fading. Honestly, I don't want them at this point to change back. If this is the path, stick with it. Be mindful of our time. If the next DLC comes and there is another mechanic for gear ascension to carry old stuff forward I'll actually be MORE upset.

  • Bungie is Bipolar, they can't make up their minds on what their position is on any topic!!! They don't want to piss us off but they want us to play their way and like it... It's sad, such a good game at it's core but they act like 12 year old girls and it ruins our experience

    • Yeah, I'm personally fine with the changes, I'd just like for them to stick to it. If we're not going to be upgrade weapons into a subsequent year, then that needs to be the rule every year. The flip flopping, while I'm not really mad, is stupid. Personally, I'm on the side of no upgrades past the year the weapon/armor was introduced. This way, for that said year, every expansion would give new gear, but allow upgrades from the previous expansions OF THAT YEAR. In other words, let's look at year 2. TTK is the initial expansion of year 2. Year 2 could have 2 more expansions. Weapons from TTK should be upgradable ALL THE WAY THROUGH EACH SUBSEQUENT EXPANSION, but only for year 2. Thus, in year 3, year 2 upgrades would be cut off from future upgrading and then players wild start hunting for year 3 gear, and so on. This would set a clear example right from the beginning. Everybody would know what they were getting into, and Bungie could continue to shake things up each year without people bitching because they would already know that after a year, new stuff was coming.

    • If we use the same weapons in year 10 as we do now then bungie have failed as game designers.

    • Great post. I agree. I just want them to pick one path, towel everyone a stick to it. Look at the "new" exotic upgrade path. It's almost a carbon copy of the hated, broken Dark Below exotic upgrade plan that they changed. Taken King exotic upgade: Find a old exotic, go to the tower vendor (blueprint kiosk), pay large sum of currency (150 marks) and get a higher damage UN-Leveled version of that exotic. .....that's now painted black and may have slightly different perks Dark Below exotic upgade: Find a old exotic, go to tower vedor (Xur on weekend), pay large sum of currency (7000 glim and 1 shard), and get a higher damage UN-Leveled version of that exotic Hmmmmmm. Let's see what Bungie had to say about that last year after players hated it:
Bungie Weekly Update - 12/04/2014 by DeeJ “The last thing we wanted was for you to look at your favorite gun or helmet and decide that it had become obsolete. Since the reveal, we’ve read a lot of ideas for how this could have been done better. Your feedback is clear: The time you have invested in your stuff should be respected.”
Here's a great video addressing this: http://youtu.be/Z4b5Jj6xGxQ Spread the word. #saveourexotics Adding : Also if Bungie will NERF or leave behind every new cool exotic or every amazing unicorn exotic like Gjallahorn and Icebreaker then that will kill a lot of player motivation to chase those exotics. I spent hundreds of motes to get The Ram and the Nothing Manacles .....those aren't going to carry over to the new tier two year two defense stats. They are now junk. (Unless I use them in year one content.....which no one will) So you think I will collect more motes now?? NO. Will I ever spend motes again for an exotic? NOPE. Why bother!!!! That's what Bungie has done. "Taken" all the drive and incentive to hunt cool exotic items right out of me.

      • Their track record for new guns on last 2 docs is pretty bad, nothing from Poe, trials has a couple, tdb has the hammer after that nada So maybe 4 guns in 2 dlc's. Hmmmmmmm

      • If they make better guns guardians will use them. If they don't (dlc weapons) and let the ones we like become useless. Destiny won't last.

        • -Meh about Legendaries being obsolete -Would like to 1v1 Bungievision about the whole "huhuh Exotics are now obsolete" think. -Really happy to see the apparent wealth of new content. -Laughing my goddamn ass off at the entitled middle-schoolers shitting their pants about Xur.

        • I'm OK with legendaries being left behind. Exotics should be upgradable though. They are part of what makes destiny unique

I will wait buying the TK DLC. First see how good the free stuff is. Should be able to get to lvl40 right? New exotics will be locked but the 1.0 ones we can upgrade to 2.0 are not i hope. But ueah, would be nice if there was some consistency in the upgrade process.

        • Reminds me of an old fable. A man is starting to build a canoe. He's working on the frame and a shopkeeper happens to be passing by. He looks at it and suggests he make the frame taller so water won't come over the sides too often. The man nods and halfway into the frame building process he starts to make it taller. Not long after a farmer is passing by and suggests he make it thinner to increase speed. The man nods and starts to shorten the width. When he begins to work on the shell a shepherd happens to be passing by. The shepherd suggests he use sheepskin for the body because it holds water just fine in his backpack so why wouldn't it work for keeping out water on something the size of a canoe. The man nods and says he can give it a try. So he finishes, places the canoe in the water, and gets in. As soon as he sits in it the canoe springs leaks when the shell rips, it capsizes due to the odd shape, and collapses into a misshapen heap. He sighs and gets to work making another. A cowhand passes by and starts to offer a suggestion. The man immediately stops him, points to the half sunken monstrosity, and says, "That broken pile over there is everyman's canoe. This one will be my canoe, built by my hand, and following my vision. Therefore it will work." Better to pick a method and stick with it instead of trying to incorporate all methods into one.

        • What or who gives you the right to decide that we as a community feel or agree with you.A 123 out of 10,000,000 players agreed with you.....so that means we all can be labelled with you're BS!?!?Here is a news flash for you.A 123 intellectually challenged individuals agreed with you.Thats all.Nothing more. Most of the community want TTK the way it is and we all want new weapons and a new structure. We don't care if you played since the beta, that means sweet blue nothing.

          • It's like bungie of old renowned for their communication with their player base has died and this monster created by Activision took its place. In the past you could feel that they cared about the community and it showed with their games, now all you can feel is the soulless grip of greed that got a hold of them and likewise it shows on the game.

          • I don't understand this. I really am stumped at how ignorant you people can be. You know what I'm going to be strutting around with in the tower, using in the Crucible and showing off to people? My 'The Supremacy' Sniper. It's my greatest Trophy, and even years from now I will still have this weapon in whatever 'Vault' is there years from now, and on my character during certain events. There's a difference between: "Owning Gear that tells a story of what you've been through." -and- "Owning Gear that you'll be using - instead of any new gear - for ten years straight." Have fun coming up with an argument that isn't a copy/paste of the same meaningless blabber that's really just arbitrary complaining.

            • Youre supporting their nonsense by buying ttk, but you're tied of their nonsense. Pick one. Complaining but paying them incentivises them to continue to jerk people around.
