Enable matchmaking for raids and Prison of Elders

Let me preface this by saying I get it - Bungie wants players to get on the forums and be involved with the community beyond just the game, hence the current method of assembling a fireteam for raids and Prison of Elders. But what about the players who may only have an hour or so to spare on a weeknight after work and just want to make the most of their gaming experience in a short amount of time? This why I believe matchmaking should be enabled for current/future raids, Prison of Elders and any subsequent co-op game modes. It's understandable that players are looking to join those of a specific skill set or friends for difficult missions, however some of us are just fine with being paired up if it means actually getting to play vs recruiting and waiting for others to join. Keep the option to assemble a fireteam but also include the option for matchmaking. I have to imagine I'm not the only one who thinks this.

Cons of this - never know who you'll get - A.F.C/A.F.K players - no one's leader so you can't kick those inactive people - Probably no mic's who have no idea what goes on

I've never understood Bungie's stance on this and to be honest this has forced me to quit playing as much as i would like. I guess i don't see the difference between having random matchmaking in game versus having to be forced to go to some external site (i.e. necessitating you have your phone, tablet or pc close at hand) and randomly pick up other players to form a group. In either case you are pugging the event with people you do not know and who are prone to all of the pitfalls of those in matchmaking (i.e. rage quitting, etc.). So to me, their stance has nothing to do with forcing a community spirit etc. but rather trying to increase bungie site traffic etc. At the very least they need to institute some in-game looking for group tool/mechanism.

      • agreed. If you don't want to use it, don't. Optional matchmaking would give more people options for how they want to play the game. As long as it's optional, there's no reason for anyone to complain.

        • If it's there, even optionally, then people that don't know any better will use it. And subsequently B*TCH and MOAN about how crappy the game is that 6 high level people can't get past the first Oracles (or whatever). Because you have people not using Mics, not speaking the language, just idiots all-together. A regular strike: sure. They're straight forward and no communication is involved, and there are no real puzzles to worry about. Raids are a different animal. It sounds all fine to say "Make it optional" but only a small % of people follow the forums. They'd just assume that it was typical, not realize the difficulty, then bail when they can't make it to the first checkpoint. At least the way it is now, requires people to research and "check up" on a person before agreeing to spend the evening trying to beat Aetheon.

        • You're not, it's been all over the forums and won't die. They apparently refuse to listen though because TTK is launching with a Raid and no matchmaking.
But what about the players who may only have an hour or so to spare on a weeknight after work and just want to make the most of their gaming experience in a short amount of time?
This is where your assumption that MM would be a good idea falls apart. Raids and PoE can easily take more than an hour with those who aren't up to the task. With the AFKers in regular strikes and people who just want to be carried being an issue from the start (of Destiny), you want them to be in your group going to do the most difficult and complex parts of the game, just so that you don't have to look for people that are also looking for the same thing? I would recommend you get into a clan, private group, or an offsite group dedicated to helping set up such things instead. Had there been MM for those now, it is as likely that you or others would be here to ask for them to remove MM from those game types because of having issues with people who aren't playing, aren't helping, just there to get stuff without investing, aren't leveled enough, and/or don't have enough of the right gear to be of any assistance. If you take people who can't really do anything because you're trying to help them, that's a decision on your behalf. Having to carry people because the MM threw them in with you is a whole different thing. Case in point; Last week my son wanted to run the VoG- Hard to try for Fatebringer. There were only 4 of us, but one guy volunteered to search the #Recruitment threads here on B.net, and found 2 players in less than 5 minutes. Invites were sent, the game was played, and it was probably the fastest Hard VoG we've ever run. One of the guys bailed post game, never said a word. The other hung around and played with us the rest of the night, and was a really cool guy.

I have seen people fail to stay alive in the 28 POE. Probably wouldn't do well against skolas. Best bet is to add text chat to the tower.

        • There are many resources out on the interwebs for setting up fireteams (e.g., reddit, LFG, the100)...with the100 you can join a group to your liking and be buddy buddy with the people in the group that have similar play style (casual or hardcore) and play times, just to name a few. Or you can join public fireteams too. Matchmaking for raids and endgame content is just not the way to go...pugging any type of end game through random selection is just calling for random rage quits or real world aggro (family, bio, food, etc).

          • If you only have an hour you won't have time for it. Especially with a matchmade team.
