is master chief John 117 the last spartan?
ok i know he's not but i didn't know a better title for the thread but yeah, so if you read the halo novels you know John is NOT the last spartan 2 alive. there's kelly, linda, will, fred(?), and there was kurt but you know. . .
so my question is this:
why when halo 3 and bascially ALL the halo games keep saying that John 117 is the last of his kind/ last remaining spartan?
bungie has stated that the novels are canon so what's the deal? this is driving me nuts!

Master Chief (AKA: Spartan 117) is the last surviving (or active, not sure) Spartan II in the Halo Game series. In the books, he is not.

there are several in a forerunner shield world. thats all. i beliee its fred, kelly, and linda. poor jack. he died killing two hunters with his fists......

All the other SPARTANs are top secert or somehing and thats what they think but I could be wrong you never know.

Spartan 117 is the last Spartan known to be alive, all the others are thought to be dead by the UNSC or MIA since a Spartans were made to give people hope so they are technically only listed as MIA.

those are the reamaining ones but in the end of the book fall of reach or first strike it said Kelly or Linda died....Mayby they were reivied?

Linda died, but after awhile in cryostasis and treatment from hasley she was revived

I know about the shield world but know one else knew about them and kept them on Onyx when all the Spartans found each other in the other books they said some of them died and now there back.Unless i havnt read them in a while! ill finish Fall of Reach and look then

ok so some one posted earlier that 117 is the only spartan active in the game but not the books. the op says that bungie has stated that all the novels are canon. so why does the game manual for halo 3 say that master chief is the last survivng member of the legendary spartan II program? something's not adding up here. either bungie isn't reading the novels it sanctions or the novels are not canon. and if the novels are not canon, that would be pretty lame. so yeah even in fall of reach linda survived and was on board the autumn yet she wasn't even mentioned in the first halo game. and about the spartan chick that "retire so she could raise a family". really? that is the most lame thing i've ever heard. humanity is on the brink of total extinction and you're top secret government property and you're just going to retire? am i the only one that is catching on to this, can anyone help me out here?

First Fred is dead. All the other spartans (twos and threes) plus Mendez and Hasley are trapped in the Halo bomb shelter. Read Ghost of Onyx.

the master cheif is not the last spartan linda kelly...and others i cant rememebr names they are in a sheild world that was designed to keep the forerunners safe once the halo rings were activated soz i cant rember any more all spartans are listed as mia to boost morale in the unsc

Halo 1: James is dead, Linda is clinically dead in cryotube, everyone else is thought to be glassed on Reach. Master Chief is the only one alive. Halo 2: Fred, Linda, Will are active on Earth. Maybe they wanted to [i]keep following Halo 1's tradition.[/i] Additionally, it would've been overly confusing for those who haven't read FS. Halo 3: All remaining Spartans are in the shield world. The [i]Dusk[/i] saw Onyx's surface explode and the planet breaking into a billiard sentinels, so of course they think no one survived.
