I'm curious about this. I just bought Arkham Knight and it's GORGEOUS. It's also boring as dog shit. It's soooooo boring. Likewise with many other big titles these days. Up until last gen, great gameplay ideas were married to graphical advances to cement a game as a memorable experience. These days graphics are so good that even b grade studios can bring out a game that looks great yet has absolutely nothing going for it gameplay wise. Indie games are often too simple for me, I spent the second half of the eighties well into the nineties playing sidescrollers/beatemups/shoot and scoots. What do you think?

The problem is that devs and gamers are prioritizing Graphics over Gameplay and Content. Witcher 3 is a huge example of a Succesful game, Beautiful Graphics, Tons of content, Moderate Replay Value, Amazing Story and Well-rounded Gameplay. Every aspect of the game was worked with passion and despite that gamers made a sissyfit because "Muh graphics should've been hyper realistic". Other cases being the whole Resolution/FPS issue, Resolution helps to make things look pretty and Frames Per Second are the ones that help on introducing much more graphical content into your screen. Now Resolution is a big plus but Devs and Gamers are making it such a huge deal when a higher FPS is more gratifying in the long run. Look how horrible Arkhan Knight is on the PC, the devs locked the game in 30 FPS which made the game basically unplayable since it wasn't running well and resulted in a crash, they also took other important details from the game that made it worst, yet on consoles it worked like beauty because RockSteady actually made the game playable with a high FPS and Resolution. We all love to have Beautiful graphics, but it should't be at the expense of Gameplay or content, resulting in backlash and overblown websites going ape shit defending these games (IGN). games with balanced aspects (Graphics, Content, story, gameplay) 1.Red Dead Redemption 2. Witcher 3 3. Halo series 4. Infamous 5. Borderlands 2 6. Pokemon series 7. Mortal Kombat 9 8.Bayonetta 2 9. Devil May cry series 10. Kingdom hearts 2

    • To be honest, when you put the word "fun " in there, it automatically wins. I mean why else do you play games? In my opinion fun can be applied to all 3 aspects, as they all contribute to you experience, and therefore enjoyment of, the game in question.

      • If nobody wants progress stick to the old consoles and outdated pc's. Idiotic sh#t saying one or the other is unimportant. All parts are equal and need to advance together. otherwise what's the point that of buying new hardware. *remove heads from asses*

        • Gameplay is the number one thing when it comes to games. You can go ahead and make a game look amazing, but if it isn't fun or is too generic, there is no reason to really play it.

            • It's interesting that you don't have an option for both. There are great games out there that look visually stunning, with beautiful sound design and have insane replayability. We don't have to pick between the two, there can be compromise.

              • Gameplay > Music > Graphics. Graphics don't do that much to me. As long the gameplay is right and have a good ingame soundtrack i'm sold.

Gameplay and fun factor. Games like Bloodborne have very ambiguous lore and story, yet the game is amazing. The Witcher 3, while having good graphics, was like a blunderbuss full of dialogue and lore to the face that imo, detracted from the experience. Story, fun factor and gameplay, and graphics (or more importantly art style) are all important, but it's about balancing and combining them tactfully that really matters.

I think Batman looks brilliant, and plays brilliant. Anyways, I put it on 50/50. I can play a game with great gameplay and subpar graphics, but I'd say they are equally important. I also do not think part of this post is true. There's plenty of games out there with both good graphics and good gameplay.

                • Wel gameplay is king ofcourse, why play a mediocre game that looks great when you can play a good game that looks decent. I say decent because most games nowadays dont look bad, even 8 or 16 bit styles have their charm and pixelart can look good as well. Look at games like Shovelknight or Super time force, both games look and play good. To me its more about style than actual fidelity,I still think Zelda WW looks amazing, yet the Order, which was graphical very impressive, looked bland and generic in comparisment.

                • I don't care if the game is fun or not. I prefer more of a routine and sort of boring gameplay experience. I could never play fallout 1 or 2 because of the "graphics" but if they are just slightly under par, I could care less about them.

                • All are very important to me. Especially story and game play, but graphics are important too. I like to have a beautiful game that can push my computers limits, but that's mostly judge a bonus. As long as they're are decent and glitch free. I'm one of the sort that thinks a all these remasters are silly because ones like halo2 already have modern graphics!

                • The graphics issue has really gotten out of control lately. Of course, we'd all like crispy clean graphics, but not if the game is just terrible. Make a game that people love, and they'll keep playing, despite the graphics. And although I've never played this game, the success of Minecraft world- wide should prove that graphics can be just absolutely garbage, but people somehow love to play it. It's not the graphics gamers fall in love with, it's the world that makes it. I think devs forget that a lot. It's really always about the game. The graphics don't need to be amazing. I don't need everything at 60 FPS, but I don't like a choppy camera. Just make sure I can rotate the camera smoothly, and we're good.

                  • Story. Proof: Destiny The games core game mechanics are solid and the graphics are great, but no story and (by association) no content is what make it a sub-par game.

                      • Story is the single most important thing in gaming IMO. The gameplay can be great and fantastic, but doesn't keep me very hooked without a compelling narrative.

                      • I don't care about graphics but storyline comes first. That's how a great game is made for example the walking dead or the wolf among us.
