PoE 35 - where's the fun?

Dear Bungie I've written a few times before about Destiny and I have to admit, thanks for making some of the changes. However, of late, I have to admit I am seriously tired of the grind. Being a Dad, I have commitments that require time outside of fantasy killing of aliens. Sorry, but that's life. I have been trying to get a fireteam together to do PoE 35 for some time and after doing the Skolas round 6 a few weeks back with a team that lost a member, doing 6hrs of grind to kill him and leave unsuccessfully seemed defeating and a waste of time. I gave it a shot again with a new fireteam on Sunday at 11am MST and together, we wanted to obtain the impossible to us. By 2pm MST, we were still grinding through it and only got to level 4. I have to admit, I wasn't having fun. It is a grind. You need lots of different 365 weapons for the battles and it is after all, the best of the PoE at level 35 and it is supposed to be hard. But I didn't think it was entirely impossible. I mean, other people have done it (but really, who ARE these other people I thought to myself?). Life called & I had to leave; so I left the game in another clan member's hands to hopefully finish the game. After coming back later in the afternoon I found that the new team had gotten to Skolas but had been frustratingly not been able to do kill him yet. They had spent hours trying to kill him, but alas the other Dad's had their real life calling them back to reality which left me back in my original game which had now been going on for 8 hours. Now attempting with the Skolas encounter and two new people, we played for 2hrs and found that realistically, we were not able to achieve this closure with Skolas; with 10hrs of attempted game play by a group of over 7 accomplished guardians, we called it quits. Which left me wondering, why is it after 10hrs of gameplay that various groups of gamer dads (DoD clan members) not finish this encounter in a reasonable time suited to our lives? What does Bungie expect of us who can't game all day? Where is the FUN? None of us had fun, in fact it is pointedly frustrating after a while. Is the game mechanics so orientated to the elite gamers that the general population can't get this done and if so, why? This is NOT the game I paid for. I (or shall I say we) don't have this kind of time nor do I/we want to play a game that is so orientated to rewarding the chosen few that when I/we are finally forced to compete in the crucible/IB I/we are essentially cannon fodder because we don't have the best weapons and armour in the game. If you are truly listening, then give us feedback about this: - What is the actual attempt count on PoE 35 versus completions? - How many of the original fireteam members are part of the completions? - What is the average Guardian death count for this? - What are the weapons being used throughout the encounter? If there is an alignment of weapons needed, why is it happening so that only those weapons are being used versus other ones? - Why are the drops for PoE 32 & 34 repeated so much, there's almost no point in using a key (which is still hard to get btw!) if you get the same stuff over and over and over again. In reality, ask yourselves this. If the discussion of gamers is that we're not having fun; how do you expect us to keep playing? I am seriously considering cancelling my Fallen King CE preorder (which is $100) because I am NOT having fun. This game is all grind now and becoming more elitist as it goes forward for general game play and the crucible requirements which really suck with all the darn lag. I hope you take these comments seriously as you know, customer feedback is your lifeblood for a game that is expected to last ten years and the chat channels are full of frustrated gamers. Added griefs: - When hunting for keys, if you are killed while killing the targeted wolf leader and they kill the leader while you are waiting to respawn, there is NO reward. This is not only not fair, it is frustratingly irritating especially if you start the battle alone and get killed at the last minute and another guardian steps in at the end and doesn't help you out until your dead. - There is still a lack of key drops, you need to fix this fast. - Putting the treasure chest on top of the accelerator is stupid, stop putting it there. You ever try using your hunter with blink and try to precisely jump on the edge from the other side. It sucks. The chest should be obtainable by every character in every jump mode regardless of what they have set up. They just spent time, glimmer (if they used a heavy weapon ammo synth), and probably reset a few bounties by dying. You should be rewarding them, not punishing them. - Speaking of punishment, make those darn treasure chest beacons BIGGER! Like in Diablo 3 where they go into the sky. It's bad enough we just spent 5min killing these guys, have 90sec's to go find a darn chest, only to not be able to find it in time. Seriously, this ticks me off and shows a lot of disrespect for your customers (which is US!). ***Game mechanics note*** How is it a level 34 can be damaged by a bunch of level 1's to 17's as ruthlessly as what is happening. Is your game damage algorithms so poor that in reality a level 1 can kill a character 34 levels above it that it makes leveling moot? Or is our levels really an entry point to game aspects and that everything is level in the entire game regardless of level? Seriously, I need an answer from Bungie on this because you put the darn public events with the wolf events so close that both suck (Citadel or any place on Venus anyone, how about warsat and wolf in the Anchor of Light or Archer's Line, or worse yet the Skywatch with Warsat and Urzok at the same time = Instant death). While killing level 28+ characters you get killed from level 7 characters and it is just insult to injury. In reality, a guardian will pick the wolf events due to the vastly remote chance of a key spawn over the public event every time. Unfortunately, the more I think about how frustrated I have been with the game of late, I just don't want to play it anymore. Consider that for feedback.

  • Totally agree. Except that the level ones doing damage is intentional. That way you aren't this extremely overly powerful overlord in every area you revisit. This way it can be more interesting while you're grinding away at vanguard bounties.
