"Destiny Players are used to Paying a Premium"

I really don't know what to say or think. I always knew we were getting ripped off, but never paid the thought much mind. But this? THIS? Come on. Paying at least $40 for TTK only to have to shell out additional cash to access a mission that is INCLUDED IN THE PRICE OF THE EXPANSION. If it were a standalone mission, I might be less angry. And I don't fault them for the XP thing because publishers have been doing it for years and it does not harm or divide the player base. But making users pay $40 and then saying you must go to 7-Eleven and pay an additional few dollars for a third-party product that unlocks an exclusive quest only available to those who buy the product from said store? That's not okay. It's downright insulting. Bungie and Activision are at a crossroads. You can either choose to screw your player base over and lose the trust you regained with House of Wolves, or you can do some things to make Destiny (the biggest game in the world evar) more inclusive to players. All players. At this rate, you're killer app is going to kill itself before it turns 2. Or maybe, it'll be even more wildly successful and this idea will beccome a fad that damages the industry like micro-transactions.

  • Now this I can't agree with. The level is free with the purchase of a Red Bull (unfortunately they decided to make it 7-11 exclusive, 7-11 non-existent here.) This isn't the first time a video game has tied with a soft drink for a promotion. Bitching about this is going a tad far IMHO. I do not defend Bungie's pricing you can see other posts. I myself hate the taste of Red Bull so I will buy it and pull the tab enter the code and give it to one of my alcoholic friends that dink these. You are complaining about $1.50 it's not like they are selling it to you for $40.

      • I think Bungie are people who have made a lot of mistakes with Destiny. I am the forgiving type. I stuck around with them this long. They should just show their customers that they actually think of us as people and not wallets. One of the ways they can do that is by giving away free dlc. Another way is to give the collectors exclusives to the Veteran players at a small charge so they don't have to rebuy the content twice.

        • Actually, Redbull wrote this... Blame them. The quest is weird, and I don't like it, but Redbull commissioned it. They paid bungie to make exclusive content to sell through Redbull. You can yell at Activision for making the deal, but bungie had no say, they just had to make the content.

          • Absolute rip off. I read somewhere on here the other day that the Taken King DLC was up on the UK Xbox store for £28. The price was then changed to £40. Now if you log on the price has been removed completely. If Bungie do intend to charge £40 for the DLC that's the price of a brand new AAA title. Day one / veteran players should be rewarded, not robbed blindly. The "expansion" packs did not have £35 worth of content. There were not enough story missions in either expansion pack. Prison of Elders and Trials should not have been packaged as DLC as again there are not enough story missions. The game is starved for content as it is so the solution is to release a paid for horde mode (Prison of Elders) and Trials which both quite frankly should be part of the already limited base game. Now to add insult to injury you are looking to charge more for the new DLC and a laughable £20 for the items. Plus on top of that in other regions it's buy a drink to obtain a quest. Have we not lined your pockets enough. The game should be ever evolving otherwise it is where we are now very boring as you have had to grind incessantly due to poor drop rates. Along with a loot system that constantly gives you the items you already have over and over again instead of the items you are missing. Unless Taken King is priced sensibly it will not be a day one purchase for many. Stop insulting your customers with poor pricing, limited content (last two expansions) and now this additional charging for items (potentially £20 on top of the DLC) and quests (Red Bull promotion). The items should be free veteran players and the quests should be free and ever evolving. Either Bungie should be funding them through the over priced DLC or companies should be funding them for free as you have seen in the likes of Forza (free car packs). It is absolutely appalling that Bungie deem it acceptable to charge for further items and quests that should be included in the already overpriced Taken King DLC.

I'm not the only person who caught that, good. The worst thing is, by reading through your replies there are actually people who admittedly agree with that statement. That's like saying you're a cock sucker. Of course a Bungie apologist will claim that it isn't so bad once you get past the lingering taste. As far as I'm concerned, if you're willing to purchase the Taken King or put up with Activision's exclusive bullshit, don't parade it in the streets; something as shameful as that should be kept privately in the bedroom.

              • Just prove your point. I know I will. I loved Destiny but not the way it is right now not the way I see it going and I will not contribute to proving Bungie right. So there's one thing left to do: not gonna buy it. And to go another step further , boycotting their tie ups like red bull. Sure they'll laugh at me. But I already got some people to do that with me. And for a movement to start its just needs one to get the snowball rolling.

              • I've said this from the beginning and I still firmly believe it. Bungie/Activision should have gone balls to the wall with content for the first release. This is a new intellectual property and you need to create your die hard addicts. Instead they strung us along without ever actually getting a legitimate fix on this Destiny drug. Now we're wanting a different dealer cuz we're tired of these games.

                • I despise Bungie so much. That said, I'm not going to purchase TTK even if they reduce the price. I'm tired & annoyed by all of bungies decisions acting like it's best for us. Clearly they don't listen or give a rats ass about the community.

                • I just saw the Dying Light offer. Hilarious-but Bungie need to be aware that this a one way road they're on. Their Epitaph will read 'Here lies Bungie. They forgot basic addition' customers+ worthwhile product= profit. Take a look at the forums-nearly a year in and it's STILL a glitched up mess; and you expect us to PAY you for that? If you can't deliver a finshed product worthy of adding dlc to? Asking for more money is just damn insulting. You want my cash Bungie? EARN IT. You've got the tools, you have the money... Clock's ticking.
