Destiny game freeze bug LOCKING CONSOLE
There is a terrible and scary bug that has been introduced where the following happens: controller might rumble for no reason while the screen will freeze momentarily, player will be returned to the game and see everyone running around, however, the audio is completely missing, the player cannot move, the controller becomes 100% unresponsive (cannot even press PS button to access console menu), and even pressing the power button on the PS4 will result in three rapid beeps, but not turn off the console.
This is pretty serious as you can see because it is affecting more than just the game. I am well aware that a game bug has the capability to brick a console.
This freezing issue has happened to me TWICE during last Iron Banner and actually happened to a team member during Trials of Osiris last night. Our only solution was to PULL THE PLUG while the console was running, since performing internet searches do not provide a safe solution for restarting the console in this type of situation.
This is dangerous!
This issue has only been reported in PVP, but it appears that it is happening across different platforms.
I have linked a Reddit thread where a growing number of users are confirming this issue.
A response would be greatly appreciated!
EDIT: DO NOT YANK THE PLUG!!! If you press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds (it feels like forever, I know) this is the safest way to power down your frozen console. If this does not work but you are plugged into a power strip, flip the switch on the power strip OFF.

For XB1, If this happens (never happened to me) just hard reset. Best panic button ever.

1 ReplyI just had this happen to me twice today during trials we were 4-0 then during the 5th match just froze on me... I had to unplug the console since holding the power button for about a min did nothing, turned it back on to find some data corrupted after wards we went back into trials again only to have my whole system freeze in the same area as last time on i think our first match for that card. I really just cant play this game anymore can I?

Yeah, on 360, in PvP, watched teammates get forced to quit due to freezing, including fireteam member. I was one of two people left on my team when I got frozen. :(

This happened to me in the daily Crucible. I was in the middle of playing Salvage when my screen froze quickly and when it came undone I didn't have any sound and I couldn't move or do anything with the controller. The last thing I did was hit the options button and the PS4 Home button while the screen was frozen. I think it was treating it like I was on the home screen but I couldn't undo anything.

This happened to be and I was freaking out! After the power button didn't work I pressed the eject button and there it goes! You go back to the home screen but that's a small price to pay.

1 ReplyI had something similar to this occur in PVE today, I was patrolling the moon and just opened a chest when suddenly the screen froze. I could go to the home screen but when I tried to turn my console off it just endlessly loaded like it was trying to turn off. I ended up having to unplug it.

I just encountered this bug for the first time in skirmish pvp on ps4. Everything was unresponsive so I had to hold the power button for 30 seconds to turn off. I was still in the game but had no audio.

Had this happen to me about an hour ago. PS4, regular Crucible, Control on The Cauldron. Controller was completely unresponsive, I couldn't move at all, could see everything else going on fine but there was no sound. Got kicked back into orbit after a few minutes but the controller still wasn't working, had to hold the power button to shut the PS4 off (thankfully that did work - it beeped first but did eventually power down after holding it a while.) I've had a few connection issues before, but nothing like this. Really would love to know what exactly is going on!

THIS HAPPENED TO ME IN TRIALS NO SHT!!!! last game to lighthouse locked controller couldn't move or anything just frozen watching myself getting wrecked by the opposite side !! So sad to see cheaters go to this extent because they cannot play properly..

THIS JUST HAPPENED TO MEEE!!! I Think people are exploiting a new bug/cheat/hack, i was 4-1 carrying my team in ToO when it happened! scared to turn my system back on to see it brick, i dont think we should be playing this game if this is gunna f#$k up our systems!! this is BADDD VERY VERY BADDD

His controller was not responding and he was eventually kicked for being idle. This counted as a lost on his card too though he had the mercy. We lost the match and were all mad at this game. This also happened to me twice. Fix this please.

Just as an FYI ... I have had this happen on two separate PS4 consoles, a PS3 console and my XBONE. I do not think this is console specific and I do think it is tied to the new rejoin mechanics Bungie implemented. With the XBONE/PS4/PS3 the only way out of the problem was to power off the console by unplugging it

This just recently happened to my team as well on trials like about 10 mins ago, we were 4-3 or 4-2 and one of our team mates goes AFK for some odd reason then the other team started getting real laggy and my kills were late. Then all of sudden my control stops working and my character is frozen as well while our 3rd member had to fight off the rest of the opponents alone. I couldn't do anything at all and the other team just plowed through and won the game. My buddy was able to report that team before they game ended. I had to reboot my ps4 just to get back on. Ive been seeing this happen a lot lately on other forums and reddit. Not sure its lag switchers, DDosers, or maybe some type of system error crash while playing destiny.
