I am led to believe that the traveler might have visited the fallen before humanity because numerous times in the grimoire a "great machine" is referred to. Along with hints to the traveler in grimoire in the house of wolves mission "the ruling house" at the boss battle in the center is a hologram of the traveler but not the city.
Since the traveler visited them first they might have thought that it was a god and attempted to follow it but instead came upon us. After seeing us they thought we stole it and decided to attack us in defense of their God not to wipe us out just because.
While on this topic I'd I like to address that the servitor's resemble the traveler quit a lot if you ask me. This might have been their way of worship of some sort it exalted respect.

Your not the first to stumble upon this conspiracy... You take the blue pill—the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill—you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Remember: all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.

Yea it's pretty much all but confirmed that the traveler was with the fallen I also noticed mention of something called whirlwind that destroyed the fallen society, perhaps that whirlwind is the darkness and it tainted the majority of the fallen except house of judgement. It's very interesting stuff and I'd like to see the fallen become allies to humanity in the future

The fallen are pretty interesting over all. If I remember correctly they were already in their own golden age when the traveler came. I feel like we could end up becoming allies with them in the future.

O.o They are called mint travelers then...

We already know this. It's pretty much fact. They want the traveler back.
