Optional matchmaking?

Yes

Bungie, your community does not want gun shaders and gardian facial hair(wtf) but we want optional matchmaking. Please realise that you have not made one valid argument against optinal matchmaking, and until I see one I will persist in the forums until gifted, no longer will we have to use the piece of crap that is LFG, and those with raid teams can continue. I'm a solitary gamer, I don't want fake friends so I can complete a raid, some people do. This would suit everyone. Those who hate the idea of matchmaking DONT have to use it. Please listen to your community for once...

    • Reasons against Matchmaking (even "Optional" - though there are a couple of alternatives that could work) Before I begin, I just want to mention that these are my opinions and clarify that I am not speaking for Bungie (nor am I affiliated with them). I just think that there are a lot of reasons it just wouldn't work the way that all of the people who argue for its inclusion on a daily basis do not see. 1. There is every reason to believe that Bungie would never actually make it fully optional. This is based on their addition of matchmaking to the Weekly Heroic, granted, but since it would be easier to go with the "all or none" approach, that's most likely what they would do. A fully optional or conditional type of matchmaking wouldn't be as bad as what they did with the weekly. Rlyeh's idea, even with just three options, is far better than what I'd expect Bungie to do, as it would also allow you to start something and still have friends be able to jump in. 2. People RARELY talk during current matchmade activities. Think about how frequently people actually use their mics on activities that currently allow for it. In a span of 20 strikes or 20 crucible matches, you might be lucky to have one or two others actually opt in. It just doesn't happen (for several reasons). 3. It would SUCK for the people using it. If you have any doubts about that, think about Iron Banner. A group of 6 average PVP players has an inherent advantage against a team of randoms, and a pretty significant one at that. Matchmaking for the Trials would mean that you'd be lucky to get to 3 wins. In current matchmade strikes, I've frequently had someone who was just along for the ride and looking for someone to carry them - what happens in these higher level activities in that case? 4. As for Raids - I'd estimate matchmade Raids would be successful less than 1% of the time. The people that would be most likely to us matchmaking would be very unlikely to have finished a raid in the past. I wouldn't be surprised to see people struggle to open the doors to the Vault of Glass, especially since it would be unlikely that any of them would be using mics. It would be Day 1 of the raids every single time. Beyond that, how long would you be sitting in matchmaking waiting for it to find a group willing to pursue an activity that could take a couple of hours (I'm not talking about a group that has done it before)? What happens when someone inevitably drops out? Would someone get brought in that hadn't gotten that far or that had gotten even further, so they would have to redo something for no benefit? What happens if you've got someone who is just there to troll or be inactive? There's no party leader in a matchmade activity, so the trolls and inactives would have free reign to do what they please. -------------- - I've seen people argue that going to lfg sites or using other external sources accomplishes the same thing as matchmaking and I wholeheartedly disagree. If that were the case, then finding a group through the current in-game matchmaking would be at least nearly as effective as forming a party through an external site and that isn't even close to accurate. Communication alone makes those other options more effective (which Bungie could fix a lot of by making it so that mics were on by default and requiring you to manually change it). -------------- All of that said, I do think that Matchmaking could work for the higher leveled Prison of Elders content - at least the level 32 and possibly the 34 (if you had to be 34 to enter that). It would not surprise me if Bungie was using the 28 PoE to test out whether that could work.

        • Edit your post- OPTIONAL spell it right, you lose credibility and the audience when you can't spell simple words. Nice idea, but I think they opted to never do this just to infuriate us.

        • The people against this are nothing more than elitists that think that this game is life. I don't have time to waste on going to an LFG sight and spending too much time getting a group together. And we are asking for "OPTIONAL" matchmaking, not the crap we were given for the weekly heroics.

        • Nope. It's bungie's philosophy that you should stop playing the game, get on the internet, and spend 5 - 10 minutes trying to random matchmake yourself because they're not gonna do it for you.

          • Bungie continually says matchmaking doesn't work and yet there are many players, myself included, who play almost exclusively using Destiny LFG. I'm very thankful the community supports this game so well even with Bungie's lack of interest in matchmaking. Without LFG sites, I would not be able to play this game.

          • As I said in another post... I would like to see 3 options: 1. Private (join fireteam only by invitation. This would also allow solo attempts) 2. Friends (friends can join without invitation) 3. Open (automatically match-makes with guardians doing the same activity) For options 2 & 3, anyone looking at the status of the guardian should be shown "Match-making for (name of activity)" instead of "In Orbit" or "Playing Destiny". Players should be able to set the default option for match-making in the options/preferences GUI. But be able to change it when selecting an activity (pull-down like changing the level of a mission).

            • Optional: definitely. It's absolute pain having to get on lfg or the forums to find a group, wait around for 10-15 mins for a full group to assemble, and then finally get to play the game. If someone wants to play alone or without random people, just let them flip a setting and turn matchmaking off. That was possible in Halo (switch between private match and matchmaking), why not now?

            • The problem i think you would get is that you will only be left with the idiots if you MM as i know myself and many others will continue to use LFG even if MM did become a thing

              • I think Bungie loves the controversy over taking off the matchmaking because it keeps people engaged in social media. It's a shitty policy to keep customers though.
