Save Star Trek

Now, before you post, read the whole thing. It's late, I have a cold, and i'm not in the mood for "OMFG, j00 st00pid tr3kk13, U suxx, U h4v3 n0 lif3! ". In 2001, Star Trek: Enterprise , the most recent installment in the franchise, was launched. From the start, fans were skeptical of a pre-Kirk series. But it gained a very strong following and continued for 3 seasons. But that strong fanbase was needed at the end of the 3rd season. Enterprise was looking at a cancellation. And it wouldn't have been that bad, if not for one thing: If Enterprise was cancelled, the future of all Star Trek would have been very much in doubt. But we raised money, and sent letters, and made our point clear; Enterprise was not meant to just be tossed aside like some garbage reality TV show. And we won. We won Enterprise another season. The whole thing was not unlike the movement to save the original Trek from cancellation back in the late 60's. But now, some high-up Executives at UPN have decided to cancel it as soon as the 4th season is over. (Some of you may have already seen my "outspoken" opinion of that in the other thread). And the Enterprise fanbase has once again been called into action. We need to save Enterprise! The world needs Trek! Please, just click the link in my sig, or visit startrek.com, or do something. To the haters/flamers I already see these replies coming; "You suck", "Star Trek sucks", "Get a life", "Go -blam!- yourself". And it is to you that I direct this part of my thread to. Back in the 60's, trying to talk about current political and social problems in a TV show was unheard of. No show dared tread along the lines of racism or the Cold War. And then came Gene Roddenberry. He had a vision. A vision of a better future where all races and colors and nations cooperated. He disguised his "rants" or "lessons" in his episodes. For instance, in Let that be your last battlefield, he talked about racism without going right out and saying "Racism is horrible." He taught us lessons without us even knowing it. And all the Trek series to follow the original have followed that tradition of teaching morals without preaching them. But, i'm probably ranting. My point is this; Star Trek is more than just another sci-fi show. It's a hope. A hope for a better future. And we need Trek. It's become a part of our culture. So please. Support it in some way. Thanks. -MCB- [Edited on 2/27/2005 10:53:12 PM]

I won't demand a show to stay on, for the shake of staying on. It needs a fresh look... and the writers have to be fired

 • Okay. Star Trek, something I love a lot. Lot's of happy memories watching it and playing it as a kid. All the toys etc. But I wouldn't attempt for one minute to save Enterprise, no thank you. Bring back The Next Generation, and I'll be the happiest fella in all of ....yeah! Enterprise is crap, let it go. If they re-made TNG, it might actually start attracting a new fanbase again (there are rumours they might, what with the cast not doing particularly well on their own *cough* THUNDERBIRDS *cough*.)

 • Sure, you can try to save star trek. Maybe you can pay FOX $40 million bucks to show it prime time for one season.

 • The main reason that Enterprise went off was because the people at UPN put it in contest with Sci-Fi's friday lineup...which basicly will kill any show that stands against those three. I too am sad at the departing of Enterprise but UPN will just do it again and again...Maybe they will pull something off like Farscape did and make a miniseries of Enterprise...or some other TV company will buy the rights and continue the show at a different time...Maybe even Sci-fi will add it their friday lineup and dominate friday tv completly :).

 • Star Trek is so finished. There should be a spin off with that oily tar looking thing that kills. It should be a comedy. Like everybody loves oily tar man. William Shatner could be his landlord like in three's company. Can you picture it? Tony Danza could be his maid and spend entire episodes trying to clean his oily tar out of the carpets while giving dating advice to his oily tar daughter. Every episode he can kill the household pet. Hmmm am I onto something here?

 • I don't really like Enterprise anyway. Star Trek: TNG pwned all others. If I can get all the DVDs for that, I'll be happy.

 • everything after TNG has been extremely downhill, and not only was Enterprise simply awful but Bakula did NOT make a good captain. I loved him in Quantum Leap, but an enterprise captain he is not......unless he had Al.....Al could have been his Spock and Ziggy his Uhura.

 • Original Series - Great TNG - Even better DS9 - Interesting, but not as good as TNG Voyager - OK, some neat things, but not as interesting as I'd hoped Enterprise - Bakula must die, he's rotten. The show is rotten. Movies I - Awesome II - Campy, but good action -- Hey they finally realized that space is 3D! III - One of my favorites, but they forgot Space was 3D again, never to return seemingly. IV - By far the funniest movie in the set "Everyone remember where we parked!" and the "Where are your wessels?" V- Getting crappy VI - Wonder why there aren't more original cast Star Trek movies? This is why. Generations - One part I liked -- Data:"Oh Sh**" Nemesis - Meh I want to see TNG brought back, or a new show with better storylines and actors than Enterprise had.

 • Loved all the treks up until voyager, which was really quite mediocre, but I still watched it. Enterprise was a pile of absolute -blam!-e. It was an ok sci fi show, but it just wasnt star trek. None of the feel of the others, and Bakula was crap, like most of the other cast. I hated him in quantam shift, and hated him in enterprise. Still a shame it is being cancelled as it does make it really unlikely that they will make a new Star trek. If they do cancel I just hope they start a new series in a couple of years with a decent storyline. Hmm... Have to say new TNG would be rather bad, as they are all really getting quite along, and it wouldnt work, and there is no way to continue Voyager. The end was too final, and the story would just not work in a film set in the alpha quadrant. DS9 was quite final too, but they could continue, but again the set up wouldnt work for a film. They need to have a fresh idea, find some good people to play them (preferably not anyone well known). Just hope they avoid the idea i heard about before enterprise came out: Star Fleet acadamy. Eww another teen drama, but this time set in the star trek universe. No thanks. I think maybe a miniseries would work for something, but would suggest that no 'proper' series would be made. Oh, and star trek wastes star wars any day. I like both, but evenn in the decent films the only ones that came close to decent acting were Alec Guiness and Harrison Ford. And the lateset films were some fo the most mediocre films I have seen in a long time (had the story all planeed out my arse). [Edited on 2/28/2005 11:34:17 AM]
