I loaded the destiny game on ps3, pressed `x` to start as always and then it said server was down for scheduled maitenance and then after 5-10 minutes the error screen came up with code `tapir`.

Try restarting the game, Destiny is back up for me.

We were performing an update in preparation for the House of Wolves launch on the 19th. Everything should be back to normal now. Good hunting, Guardian! :)

I'm getting this same error code. Not sure if it is related to the server being down but I thought I read that they would be back up at 11am Pacific time. It's passed that time now so I'm lost!
