The sci-fi shooter is due a meaty overhaul this autumn around the one year anniversary of Destiny's original launch, a leaked internal schedule revealed.
A logo reminiscent of the Hive suggests a return to the story of that particular alien race. The Taken King itself may be a reference to Oryx, whose son Crota you squashed in The Dark Below.
The leaked schedule, which emerged last year, suggested the expansion would offer far more content than the first two Destiny add-ons.
It's believed The Taken King, previously known under its working title of Comet, will effectively be Destiny 1.5. The schedule also indicated that it would be released in a boxed version (presumably in a Game of the Year-style package with all other Destiny content launched thus far).
The Taken King fits with what we know of Bungie's deal with publisher Activision. The contract both parties signed revealed the series would alternate between fully new games and yearly expansions over a 10-year period.
Before all that, Destiny's next add-on House of Wolves launches on 19th May.

The symbol associated with "The Taken King" looks like the hive crest but not quite, and there was speculation some time ago about a fifth race of enemies that would be met of Jupiter and/or Saturn. So, what if this expansion includes the enemy faction the hive very closely follow the act of? "THE DARKNESS" ITSELF!? That black, knight-like figure reminds me of "The Heart of the Black Garden".

1 ReplyAny chance it is the name of the first dlc after comet. So they can sell the season pass when they sell comet. Same way we knew that dlc was called dark below and house of wolves before destiny came out. Thoughts?

The crota grimoire card basically implies there could be vex/hive relationship. So maybe it's possible we get both?

My guess is they will reveal more information during e3 this year. If there a time to announce something this big, this would be the opportunity to do it.

Is the logo not something that would have been sorted at the start of the design process? This suggests two things to me: 1) Now that Bungie has finished developing HoW, they're making a [b]fresh[/b] start on the next release - given the timing. 2) This is not related to something that's due for release any time soon.

2 RepliesWhile I'm glad to see some info on comet (even if it's rumors), I'm hoping they have us focus on the Cabal. As enemies, they just seem as an afterthought without any depth to them while Fallen, Hive, & Vex all seem fleshed out.

4 RepliesWelp, I know I will be alone in my opinion but the heck with it.... Yay! The hive are my favorite enemy and the atmosphere/feel they create. I love the dark gothic theme they have. And the Crota weapons/armor look so much better than VoG gear imo. VoG gear was plain. I will admit though, since the announcement of the HoW and details, I may like the Fallen more very soon. Their organization into Houses and essence of a former Golden Age of their own interest me. Anyways, hurry up and arrive Oryx! Your son is going to be farmed even more now.
