DLC needs to stop.

Seriously. Enough is enough. And if this post sounds like a broken record, then that's good because that's what I'm going for. We've all seen these posts posts about paid DLC and how it's infecting these big- name publishers with a dollar sign disease. We all need to make these kinds of posts everywhere possible to drill this message into every gamer. The only way that this trend will ever change is if the money stops flowing. These publishers are anouncing that there will be DLC before the game is even released. I mean come on guys. They're blatantly screwing us. They don't even have to hide it anymore. I had this idea about battlefield hardline the other day: so many people see that game and think it's just battlefield 4 but painted a different color. I was thinking that as well. In fact, that could have been DLC for BF 4. An entire disc game could have been DLC on their previous game. I'm sure that they could have done it, and that would have been constituted as legitimate paid DLC. Post your thoughts

Oh look, another "crusader" trying to show us all the error of our ways. News flash: you're not doing anything new with this post. In fact, you, nor any other "Don't buy DLC" or "Don't pre-order" people, will never fix anything. What, did you think that the entirety of the gaming community frequents these forums, and as such will see your post and suddenly realize the error of their ways? No, they won't. The main body of users here are Destiny players and Halo players, which is a tiny fraction of the Gaming community. Furthermore, the only people who will respond positively to your post already share your sentiment, so you're not so much convincing people as you are making other feel validated and slightly annoying the rest of us. So shut up, get off your damn high horse, and let the rest of us be.

    • I love dlc. I love the idea of it. If I enjoy your game, I will buy dlc, whether day one or not. If I don't, well obviously I won't. Do I feel jipped if day one dlc comes out? Nah. Gaming is kinda of a cheap hobby. Look at table top, or clubbing or bar hopping, or comic collecting. Get a job, or a better job, or even better, realise you don't need dlc and be done with your complaints

Here's the thing. If they don't do DLC then the price of games is likely to increase. We've been lucky that it's stuck at 59.99 for as long as it has. Do I like the paid DLC that you know was in development before the game released? No, but if they put it on the game at release, chances are the game would have cost 69.99 instead, or more. Developers have found a way to get us our games at the current price point and yet still be profitable. That still raises the question however, how a game like Witcher 3 can be so huge for 59.99 but Destiny was what it was at the same price. I think that's where a lot of the DLC anger is coming from. Some developers are obviously giving us more for our 59 bucks than others.

      • They want to you to keep the game before you even buy it instead of rapidly trading it in for others to buy used, which affects sales numbers.

      • Dlc is fine. It's day one dlc and on the disc content that need to be stopped

      • I don't think all DLC should stop, but I don't think that developers should be thinking about full paid DLC until after the game releases. After release, I don't care what DLC there is.

      • If DLC actually adds to the game, then it's no so bad. The problem is when they develop the game then chop a part or lock a part of it out and sell it as DLC. It's like buying a house but having to pay extra for keys to get in some of the rooms rather than adding a garage. When games were released and felt complete, this wasn't an issue. Back when Modern Warfare came out, the DLC maps actually felt like what DLC was intended although they could come down on the price. Now, companies just use it as an excuse to release incomplete games and turn a $60 title into a $100 title.

Sir I hate to say it.. But you're an idiot... When a publisher like CDKRed (witcher devs) and bungie (Destiny devs) announce the DLC prior to the game it's because they have a general idea of what they want to do for it. They have an idea of what the DLC name will be, where this content will take the game, how long it will be, ect. but the content is not finished. DLC is good if it adds to the story or makes the game playable after not playing it for so long, (dark souls 2, borderlands, last of us, forza, ect.) Edit: this issue is the same as micro-transactions, I see no issue in them if they don't impede gameplay & you can get them all naturally in game (dead space 3 & ac unity for example), people like paying for extra stuff if they love the game so give them the option, if you don't want that stuff then you have no obligation to buy it.

        • I don't really see DLC as much of a problem. If I consider it worth my money, and it releases close enough after the main games launch that in still interested, then I'll buy. Otherwise the money stays in my pocket. Admittedly, it's a very rare occurrence that I actually buy DLC. Most of the time it seems pointless.

          • DLC isn't inherently bad. The way developers abuse it is the problem.

            • It's not all greed, yes most is, especially when a game is cut down and placed bits and pieces into dlc. But it's all about value to the consumer. If someone wants rubber ducks on their gun, they'll buy it, and chances are so would many people.

            • Then simply don't buy it. If DLC is that bad then show it with your wallet.

              • Maybe because battlefield, just like CoD, is a copy and paste job on an extremely popular FPS even though BF fanboys claim BF isn't a copy and paste job like CoD? RPGs and other genres tend to make better use of DLC (not always). Who am I to judge? I bought Black Ops season pass solely for 4 zombie maps lmao. I don't care if DLC exists. If people buy it, then it has a purpose. I buy it all the time. Cosmetics, map packs, or expansions. I'll buy anything if it looks appealing. I'm not some bum who manages to complain about free games having DLC (not targeting OP or any1 specific, just some pathetic people I've seen before)

                • It now cost 100+ dollars for the full game. They decided to be sneaky pricks instead of just increasing the game price to 70

                    • Not all DLC is bad. Just use your brain to make sure you get what you pay for. Battlefield: Hardline was made by a different studio by the way. So they never intended to make it a DLC.

                    • I don't mind DLC when the content justifies the price. I can't stand when publisher's such as E.A. sell you half a game, have loads of content disc locked. BF hardline is a perfect example. Then you have great DLC, with games like oblivion that expand the game and are definitely worth the price.

How the hell would a company like that ever survive? It makes no sense at all. There's a world of difference between planning DLC ahead of time and making that DLC ahead of time.

                      • DLC is a good thing if the devs approach it right (announce after game launch) and if it is worth the money (unlike the ridiculous 50$ DLC I see floating around).
