B.net Rant #2

Ergh. Arg. I think it is time to rant again. I have been noticing a lot of problems with the forums lately. The biggest problem I see so far? The lack of decent forum subtitles. To me, a somewhat older member who has been around these parts for awhile, I kind of understand what they all mean. But new members don't get them. The first forum subtitle that needs to be changed is #Feedback's. Right now, it is probably the best subtitle out there. "Feedback and Suggestions for Destiny" is straightforward and easy to understand. Which is nice and what I expect every single forum subtitle to be like. But the problem with #Feedback's subtitle is that it doesn't encompass everything that that forum stands for. That forum is really the only place that people will have a chance to actually say something to you guys, but most new members don't get it. So just make it more obvious that you guys are present their and that you will read everything people post. Something like, "Tell us what you think; We're Listening" might work better. The second worst forum subtitle is definitely #Gaming. "Talk about any Game. We don't mind" is a horrifying mess that has spawned hundreds of threads of people posting content that would better be suited under any of the Destiny tags. Everytime someone who misposts in that forum and justifies their post by saying, "Look at the description, idiot", I die a little on the inside. So, let's move on from that bad subtitle to something better. Maybe, "Take a break from talking about Destiny, and discuss other games". If not that, then I am sure the denizens of #Gaming can definitely think of something better. The third? #Community and #Bungie tie for this position. I believe that these forums should both be nuked and replaced. But for right now, both of them have pretty bad descriptions. Focusing on #Community's tag, "Join the Bungie Community", I find that it first off does not match with the content inside the forum. As much as I hate to say it, that forum has nothing to do with the Bungie community anymore. "Talk with the Destiny Community" would be a better description. Talking about #Bungie, I have no idea what the forum is even about, and I never have. I can't really help you out there. Well, anyways, hopefully I was able to say at least one thing sane. Good luck guys. Also, I don't think anyone ever thanked you for making #Recruitment, so thanks!

 • Sorry for bumping this day-old thread, but at least it's adding discussion value. I do agree that the descriptions need more tweaking. However, at the same time, I don't really feel like Bungie should have to hold people's hands all the time. We were all new once, and we figured things out by observation. The structure to the website and the new moderation system along with the app have not helped the situation at all either. We are missing essential parts to the website/app to make it run smoothly. Sticky threads - I believe I addressed this to you Milo - are hopefully going to make a return. I get that they felt they didn't need to support them because "nobody used them," but the problem is you have new people coming in who don't know what's going on. I find it odd that Bungie wanted to bring in new people and move away from the old, but treated everyone like they were an old user and knew how things worked. It makes no sense to me. They knew they were releasing a game to a wider audience and which was marketed for a younger crowd of people, but they didn't prepare for it at all. I know hindsight is 20/20, but everyone was telling them they had to do x, y, and z for the site; they could have at least taken our warnings into consideration. The things I believe that need to be changed are: Descriptions: Clearer, but at least keep some form of a "Bungie" feel (like the description for #Offtopic.) Sticky threads: Provide direction and meaning to each subforum. Moderation: Needs to be clearer/more apparent. Make users fear/respect Ninjas again. POST THE CoC ON THE APP! App name: I get that they're marketing Destiny and it's their primary focus, but people need to know that it is Bungie.net, not an app solely used for Destiny. More Bungie: Bungie needs less focus on Destiny and more focus on all of their projects. This one game does not define who they are in the least bit.
