This is a concept for (crucible) game modes i've wanted for a long time now, and i'm curious whether the rest of the community agrees with me on this subject.
I've always enjoyed multiplayer games that included enemy AI on the battlefield. Prime examples like Star Wars Battlefront (a child hood favorite of mine) and Titanfall. The inclusion of enemy AI always made the battles feel more large, epic, and immersive to me. So i think it would be a great idea if Destiny had particular game modes that featured this.
Here is an example of a game mode: Two teams. Each team has their own Nexus to defend. The goal being to destroy the opposing team's Nexus. Maybe you can even include some other little guys (dregs, vex, etc.)
There are plenty of other ideas that could implement enemy AI well. This was just an idea i made on the spot.
All in all, i think a game like Destiny (which features a heavy focus on both pve and pvp) could have a lot of potential with multiplayer game modes that include friendly and enemy AI on both sides. Hell, it may change what weapons people decide to use and add some more variety.
So the point of this thread was to see what the community thinks of this concept. Do you want the inclusion of AI in multiplayer modes as much as i do? Do you have ideas for game modes that would work well with the inclusion of AI? Please feel free to give me your opinions and ideas. I would love to hear them. And maybe if this gets enough attention, Bungie might even consider adding something along these lines in the future.
Thanks for reading.
EDIT:
Alright, so to summarize what happened in this post: i initially titled this post "Implementing AI with PVP game modes". It hardly got any attention, so i decided to test a theory. Since so many popular posts in this community are along the lines of "omg nerf thorn" or "gjallarhorn hur dur my parents hate me", i decided to change the title to Nerf the -blam!-ing Thorn already!!! (which is why so many comments below are related to Thorn... Some people clearly dont read the whole post). And what do you know? this post became pretty damn popular. I initially intended for this post to be a legitamite topic relating to game mode ideas. It would turn out however that this community is far more interested in reading the same whining posts over and over again. Anyway this has been an interesting social experiment. I will now change the title to what it initially was to avoid confusion. The interesting part will be seeing if this post continues to get popular, or will it instead be overlooked by readers who are more interested in other "insightful" forum posts.
Wouldn't be against it. They'd probably be better than the useless guys I get paired with anyway.
-
No, I don't like this idea at all, I always prefer PvE and PvP to be completely separate game modes, if there were AI enemies running around in PvP it would screw up the whole flow of the game, I specifically never wanted Titanfall just because of that feature and if they added it to Destiny I'd drop this game in a heartbeat and play something worth my time, which this game would no longer be if they made such a change.
-
Ok just gotta say I loved Star Wars battlefront lol but I'm not a fan of ai in crucible it takes away from the joys of destroying the enemy team :D
-
I would LOVE your idea. I would also love to see AI controlled guardians with random loadouts. So me vs 5 AI in rumble. Or me and 5 AI teammates vs 6 AI enemies in control or clash. Obviously that would be a lot of code to write and therefore it probably won't happen but damn it would be nice to have.
-
Interesting... it would have to pve objective based of course otherwise the real players could just massacre the ai in any kd based game. I bump
-
I have wanted this for a long time. Use the larger maps. Have enemies for the map/planet type. Imagine trying to capture B on the Venus map and have a fallen dropship come in.
-
I think it'd be a great addition to the game.
-
While this could be cool, its not possible with how destiny's p2p networks work. It would require massive changes to the back end infrastructure and netcode.maybe in Destiny 2...

Edited by IMADAJ: 3/26/2015 7:36:38 PMThrow some vex gates we can use into the mix too. Edit: They could even be destroyable with a timed reactivation. Run through and "shut the door behind you", or keep a man by the enemy gate at B to get rid of their shortcut.

People are stupid. For one the ghorn doesn't need a nerf and people should read the post before commenting. Any kind of new game mode would be a good idea since there's not a lot to choose from right now

First team to 5k points gets Master Chief wrecking house with a Spartan Lasar from an unsnipable hilltop.
-
I forsee a NERF THE NECKSUS!!!!!!**?*^$/!!!! posts if this happens
-
Why not? Change it up a bit and make PvP actually fun? Signed.

CS With bots=forever alone

I'd love it but the crybabies would rage

I've been considering this too, I love the idea. Alterac Valley was always my favorite battleground in WoW. Maybe a dead orbit team that defends a captured ogre they plan to use as a weapon and a new monarchy team allied with a rogue fallen archon trying to destroy all hive regardless of reason.
-
I have an idea for a kind of pvp game mode but it's more pve. There are two teams, and they each need to defend an objective from waves of enemies. You get three tries. For each wave failed, you lose one attempt. The longer you last the better your rewards are. If you lose all three tries, you can observe the opposing team until they fail. Players cannot attack each other, but AI's can attack players on both teams.

Don't cry about the thorn, please don't. The gun started out pretty bad. Now it's living up to it's exotic status. Please who scream "buff this" "nerf that" ruin the game for everyone. This happened with suros and every auto rifle..
-
That's a good idea reminds a bit of defiance sieges event defending certain objects from plague suffers and volge for 15 minutes with each wave being more tougher than the last.
-
I'd love that. Battlefront was one of my favorite games, my friends and I used to have a great time against bots in Perfect Dark Zero, and Titanfall's AI enemies really did help make the game feel like it should have - a battleground with giant robots and dozens of soldiers, not just a few dudes doing parkour, shooting each other, and occasionally getting in Titans.
-
Maybe
-
I wish there were nexus's on the maps I could climb into and control. Then I'd go around blasting people. Then if you manage to get a 15 kill streak your nexus gets upgraded to an undying mind from the reverse black garden strike.
-
Guardians vs fallen/hive/cabals/vex : capture the zones/ flag / deathmatch / etc.
-
It's official: half or less of the members of this pathetic forum actually read the thread they're responding to. Social experiment complete. Conclusion: go to Reddit if you actually want an intelligent community

No just use it, become the OP my friend
