More Skill SHOULD=More Loot

In Crucible, I've always been confused with the rewards granted. Back when I sucked at it, I didn't understand why I was getting loot for being terrible while the pro with a 5.0 kill/death ratio is getting nothing. Then as I got better, now I'm frustrated with not getting loot, and when I do, it's just lame rare boots. But at least I get a medal that says "The best around!" Real useful. The only reward for doing well is that you are worth more when killed. It only pays off if you have bounties. And then there's the deal with crucible marks and reputation. Today I saw someone place their character into a cranny, crouch, and then go AFK and they'll still get the same marks as me when I'm out shotgun blasting fellow guardians. Perhaps a large problem as well is that there's a huge mix of player ability. Someone trying PVP for the first time is thrown into a match filled with people with Exotic Weapons and way too much skill at it. "Wow, I died twice as often as I killed people. I suck. This was no fun." And then we've lost a crucible player. If there was a ranking system for how good people are, then you could be in a match of similarly skilled players so it's a challenge for all but not impossible. Just track everyone's cumulative points scored, and then give people a server-wide rank that also tells you how your doing. That causes more chance for people being inspired to do better. And then give the best person at the end of a month an exotic engram or strange coins or something cool. Edit: I should clarify I am not calling for removal of items granted to lower-ranked players. I recognize the purpose of giving players something so they can improve, it's just that many of the rewards that higher-ability players get for their random gear isn't even worth anything to them. I enjoy playing crucible, but it doesn't pay well. It's turned into a place for game exploiters and diehard PVP experts. Your average guardian doesn't necessarily play crucible because of the difficulty and not getting anything half the time. Because, what's the point of practicing something that has no benefit from performing well at. If there was a point to learning crucible, it would be a more varied and fun experience. This isn't "Everyone wins." Leave that to little kid games. Crucible isn't the main focus of the game, but it shouldn't be a mess like this. So please game developers, make skill equal loot, not random numbers. And also sort people by skill so rounds are not impossible. Bump and like if you agree! This topic has probably been beaten to death already, and feedback is filled with other raging nerf requests that will never happen because we're just normal players, but I just had to say it. Thanks! (This has been edited a few times to address comments and suggestions below. Continue to do so, but let's try to make this the one beacon of hope in keeping this constructive criticism and feedback as it is supposed to be. Saying that, it may turn into a flame war, but oh well.)

  • How do you describe skill though? Ive had games across multiple different video Games (CoD, LoL, Destiny, etc...) Where I was basically an untouchable god, then turn around and be the worst on the team

  • Should bend it into your favour yes. Like at the very damn least a slight increase in percent.. If it was entirely based off skill there'd be players who get nothing ever. And this should ONLY apply to PvP. PvE it would totally suck to be denied loot because one of your friends basically capped all enemy spawns during a strike, leaving you nothing, despite your efforts.

The system is random so the rich don't get richer and the poor don't get more poorer. I play a decent amount of pvp and pve and I have learned that if you want the good guns you have to play pve. It's not difficult you just have to learn mechanics and enemy patterns. Pvp is fun but not a reliable way to get exotics. I do agree everyone should get at least 1 engram for crucible.

    • Totally agree with this post! I'll admit, I absolutely SUCK at Crucible, but when I occasionally do well, I'd like something appropriate in return. Especially since I have an exotic bounty where I'm forced to be in the Crucible for probably forever... BUMP, good sir!

      • Crucible rewards in general need a boost. Personally I would love to see a fun alternative to glimmer farming. Bungie could introduce high glimmer bonuses for good performance. You already get glimmer for for medals but seriously I I got a reign of terror yesterday and only received 25 maybe 50 glimmer. And the weapons and armor coat around 10,000? Wtf!?

        • Bump, I agree wholeheartedly with this problem, I'm not trying to blow my own whistle but iv had a run of matches where I was top of the board every time with a k/d ratio of 4.5 and above on every match and I received nothing, not even a measly coin or blue boots and most of my team received rewards on every match for scoring/killing half as much as myself then to my ultimate surprise *BAM* 2nd guy from the bottom of the leaderboard rolls an exotic weapon (the first exotic iv have ever seen drop in crucible by the way). "you just had a crap RNG for the day and his was good" you might reply. Understandable, I get that rng is in play but then my mate joins in and we both have a 3 matches then *BAM* he Rolls the 2nd exotic iv ever seen drop in crucible, in the same day! I'm not one for jealousy or envy when it comes to loot or to kick up a fuss if I don't get a drop but seriously budgie you need to sort out the crucible drops.

I agree there should be a ranking system of some sort. it's very frustrating to play without a ranking based matchmaking system for both good and bad players. Good players get stuck with teams that are low skill and bad/new players get matched against players way above their skill level. I think a rank based, tiered reward system would be best. To do this a ranking system like the old Halo 2 skill rank system would be needed. Then assuming there was a 50 level system everyone that played a game that month and was between level 1-20 would recieive reward X. Anyone that was level 21-30 would receive reward Y, 31-40 reward Z etc. To make this system work there would have to be some semblance of a monthly reset, but I don't feel a full reset would be good as it could keep players from wanting to play right after the reset. maybe drop players 10 or 20 levels. I don't feel skill based PvP rewards should exists on a match by match basis as it would result in people farming the rank system for the rewards. Edit: To clarify i feel that a full reset would keep people from wanting to continue to play when all their progress is lost. Also in order to allow players to reach the max reward tier in one month greater increases or decreases in rating would be required this could result in a ranking system that gives drastic changes for a smaller string of wins or losses. A full reset would also result in a chaotic period after the reset where players of widly varying skill would be matched against each other. There are also problems if there is no reset. Players would play their way up to a certain rank and then only play a match or two each month. By doing a partial reset with your level dropping 10-20 levels it maintains the sense of achieving and striving for certain ranks without eliminating progress from previous months and keeps higher skill players somewhat separated from lower skill players .

            • There is a lot of small things they could do to make the crucible better, here's a few just off the top of my head: * Create an algoritm that uses the score of each player when the match is over, higher score = higher chance of getting legendaries / exotics (it would still be random though, just not as much). - and yes, you can be very good in a game without a good k/d. * (not really related to rewards, but still a valid point!) Make a vote-kick option (only for the team) - if at least 3 or 4 players votes to kick a player he'll get booted - I can handle AFK:ers in control or clash but when people do it in Skirmish or Salvage not so much. I do realize this could be abused to just get rid of someone that you think is a bad player, and I'm not sure how to prevent this behaviour... A tough one. Perhaps some smart thing that tries to determine if a player is AFK (standing still or a looping movement pattern, for example just rotating in circles) - the game could then automatically prompt all the team mates with a question "Vote to boot player X, he has been idle for 1 minute?". * Make the crucible rank matter in terms of rewards = higher rank, higher chance of rewards.

                • Because skill is subjective and score and k/d don't always tell the full story.

                  • This is a little kid game. Its rated T. Until they drop that for an M rating(hoping for that on Destiny 2) there will be no complicated missions, no complicated story, no complicated reward system, no complicated infrastructure.

                      • Why not just do a ranked lobby and a social lobby? The winning ranked lobby team would gain personal points/score towards a legendary/exotic engram, similar to the motes of light from regular xp. Obviously it would be a slow build up but none the less something to work toward. And why make it an engram? What if you wanted a specific gun, you should be able to work towards unlocking it (slowly). Social lobbies would be randomized like they are currently. I feel the randomized loot with PvE is also broken IMO. I'm always at the top with most minion kills, I feel like I'm bustin my ass and they're gettin a free ride. Why not pool the entire overall loot, then divide accordingly based on kills/assists/revives? It would encourage other players in strikes to participate rather than screwing off, then getting an exotic as a result. If all players equally participate, then set a tally that builds (coded), then when they play PvP or other PvE, give them a random legendary engram drop in game that would occur after a specific tally. rewarding players for sportsmanlike behaviour should be encouraged, it breeds an environment of teamwork which builds a good groundwork for friendships to form, increasing the amount of people who play and continue to play. Strikes would also be completed faster, allowing more game time for players overall.

                          •
It's turned into a place for game exploiters and diehard PVP experts. Your average guardian doesn't necessarily play crucible because of the difficulty and not getting anything half the time.
And this is exactly why it a random reward system, because otherwise the new, incoming players or the players who are average would not stand a chance. Because they are being randomly pitted against those exploiters and experts. If rewards were only given to the best then there would never be a way for new players to catch up. They would forever be at a disadvantage. This could potentially be a different story if matchups were truly skill based, with new players only being matched against other new players and high end players being pitted against other high end players, however, any time that idea get suggested, the amount of teeth gnashing is second only to posts like these which complain about the random reward system - because apparently the only way some these elite players can actually stay elite is by gunning down new players in new gear. Sorry, but from a marketing standpoint you cannot have it both. Either there has to be true skill based matchups, or a random drops for everyone. Otherwise it will loose the interest of those entry level players who would basically find themselves having to deal with those "game exploiters and diehard PVP experts" and never having a chance at getting good stuff.

                              • They designed the loot for PvP just as you said. It gives the best stuff the the worst player to help them get better. Once you get good, there is no reason to play PvP. Simple but sucky. The only way to fix this design flaw is to leave it the way it is and make a more challenging PvP for diehard players. Let people build skill in normal PvP and give them the option of better loot with more challenge. That is the point of iron banner but it should stay around perminetly to fix the design flaw.
