Why do hunter exotics suck so much? (PvE)

Why do hunters get the short end of the stick when it comes to exotic armor? As is, there are really only 4 useful exotics for hunters. Symbiote is good, but golden gun sucks for anything other than PvP. Third Man can be useful, but again, only really useful in PvP. Don't Touch Me is entirely situational, and in most instances, you should never be within melee range of enemies, particularly as a hunter. The Alpha Lupi is great, but every class has one. Now, let's switch gears. [b]Titans[/b] Ruin wings are arguably the best exotic in the game, giving you basically infinite heavy ammo. Saint-14 has so many uses. Holding off important points like confluxes, sync plates; Singlehandedly taking an objective in PvP. The list goes on. They've also got the Armamentarium, which gives you a bonus grenade (Hunters can never do this, although they also have shit grenades). [b]Warlocks[/b] Obsidian mind is probably the best exotic in the game. Infinite Nova Bombs, infinite orbs for teammates. Permanent supers for you [i]and[/i] your team is pretty nuts. HoPF is also amazing. The benefit that it gives to Radiance is so much more than what either of the Hunter helms do, it's ridiculous. Claws of Ahamkara are also really good. [b]Point[/b] While looking at the armor for the upcoming DLC, I can't help but notice that again, the exotics for hunters generally suck. Unremarkable Bones could be good, but that entirely depends on how it stacks with triple jump/boosted double jump. The point I'm getting at is that hunters really don't have any game changers at all now, or apparently any time in the future, unlike both of the other classes. I mean come on, the "ExoTac Angel Hunter" - bonus accuracy immediately after jumping. What the -blam!- is that useful for? [b]Edit[/b] A common theme I'm seeing is that they all have uses in PvP. That's great and all, but shouldn't there be some that focus on PvE as well? Not all of us like PvP (I do), and the fact that almost everything is tailored to it is a bit disappointing.

  • If I want to generate orbs I use symbiote. For crota hard it's mask of the third man. For everything else it's don't touch me. For pvp I use symbiote. Or if I'm bladedancing it could be a few pieces depending on game type

  • I have voiced the same concern before. Its not that hunter exotics suck, its that they're situational at best, and dont synergize with skills. Titans have things like Ruin wings, helm of saint 14, inmost light. Warlocks have praxic fire, obsidian mind. Titans have the best exotics, in terms of skill altering effects, with warlock coming a close second, hunters are left with mediocre perks. Hunters just need a few options that change skills/add an effect that actually makes it worth choosing. For example; Young Ahamkara's spine Tripmine grenade now lasts until it detonates, or you place another one. This change would instantly make it desireable for both pve and pvp, and more than worth the exotic slot. Achliophage symbiote Golden gun gains an additional shot, and all 4 shots are fired at once in a shotgun like fashion. Range is reduced to a mid range effect. Not overpowered. Reduces the effectiveness in pvp, giving you only one guaranteed kill(an extremely brutal one). In pve however, it will make golden gun a viable burst option.

    • WRONG. Symbiote's extra shot can make the difference when fighting groups. you can kill or wound one extra enemy each time. you can also empty 3 shots into a boss like normal, and blow away a Thrall or Vex or whatever if it gets too close. Third Man can be useful in some situations outside of PvP. Don't touch me allows you to adopt an "assassin" play style, using invisibility and flanking to outwit enemies and keep them distracted while your friends shoot at them. and Warlocks don't have an Alpha Lupi piece. they are all good if you know how to use them.

      • Every class has their good exotics and their clunkers. Stop worrying what everyone else has and start enjoying what you've got. And for the point of DLC exotics, they are all pretty bad. Extra damage from shoulder charge? It's a one-hit in PvP already, and I'm not suicidal enough to shoulder charge in PvE.

        • I like The don't touch me and the knuckle head radar! Going invisible when hit and sneaking away is so cool and every time I'm hit I sing "can't touch this". The knuckle head radar with the radar always on perk is amazing since I'm always looking down a sniper scope 99% of the time!

          • The angel helm? Going to make blink shotgun guys much more deadly. The gloves coming seem awful though. Unsure about the legs. But don't touch me's are great in pve. Most commonly used in crotas end. But is really useful for solo play or if you run blade dancer for pve. Radiant dance machines are great for those who play mid game. Not as useful for pve tho. But both symbiote and third man are the best exotics hunters will probably ever have (barring we get new sub classes ofc) and work well in both pvp and pve.

            • Hunter exotics are fine, it is the supers themselves that need tweaking. Gunslinger: golden gun shots should be able to cause precision damage. Blade dancer: just make it so they spawn the same number of orbs as other classes (4 for majors instead of 2) Then the symbiote helm gives you another crazy powerful shot against enemies with weak points, and Mot3M let's you wreak havoc and create 8 orbs easier. Knucklehead radar and don't touch me are both pretty solid as they are now.

                  • That bonus to accuracy while jumping, to me, is pretty huge. Destiny is one of the only games I've played in a while that jumping and shooting isn't recommended based of accuracy of your shot. even when ads it's not guaranteed. I know I'll give it a shot.

                  • There are some great ones (Achlyophage Symbiote, Mask of the Third Man, Don't Touch Me) but then the rest are fairly meh. Dance Machines are decent for PvP (kinda), Knucklehead Radar is pretty good, Young Ahamkhara's Spine is good for PvP, Crest of Alpha Lupi is pointless and the Lucky Raspberry isn't worth it and looks horrible. Then there's the Arachnid. The HoW exotics look really nice though, especially the helmet and boots. Not the Gauntlets though.

                      Symbiote improves golden gun by 33% - third man improves arc blade by 33% - no other class gets that except maybe glass house. If you think hunter supers suck for PvE that learn to play a hunter - my golden gun with symbiote will generate more orbs than anyone (I can generate -Edit: 9 orbs - off the first group of baddies when summoning crota). Dance machines are amazing - don't touch me is extremely useful. Sure the other classes have good exotics but I would rather have a helmet that gives me a second nova bomb that mor super energy, but that's never going to happen. I would rather have a helmet that makes my bubble last 33% longer than one that blinds enemies, but that's not going to happen. Would be great if my titan could spawn with grenade energy, but only my hunter and warlock can. Learn to use each one rather than complaining they aren't something else - that's the key to being skilled ;)

                        As a hunter, primarily, I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand I agree that most hunter exotics aren't as game changing as other classes. On the other hand, I think that while most of them are somewhat situational, they still stand out. Soloing the lamps in the abyss, don't touch me. This is also my usual setup because I have no problems getting in melee range as long as I have an escape plan. Clearing out the knights before taking on crota, crest of alpha lupi for those extra orbs, before switching to mask of the third man for health regen. I prefer hunters and am not trying to comment on the best class debate. But as for the exotics, I personally like that I feel well balanced with any of my exotics equipped, and don't have to change my play style too much based on what piece of armor i have equipped.

                      • I actually like hunter exotics the best because hunters don't have an exotic that is the best exotic in that class, there all about even and there all good for a certain play style, hunter don't have an exotic everyone in that class wants ex. Saint-14 for Titans and hopf for warlocks, this leaves room for personalization, for example I like alpha lupi for hunters because 1. It isn't subclass specific and I switch back and forth a lot 2. I use handcannons a lot 3. I'm usually on revive duty when I run raids, those are my personal preferences, but some people might run radiant dance machines with mida because they like strafing, see what I mean?
