Refresh of hotfix 615 posted for servers
Since [url=http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=22895922]my post[/url] a few weeks ago with a new version (build 615) to fix a server hang, a few similar bugs have been reported, which I have rolled into an updated build. I'd like to enlist the community's help in testing these fixes before I roll them into a real patch for auto-update. Today's update just contains the Halo PC and CE dedicated servers; the real patch will have the clients as well, but these fixes don't affect you unless you are the server anyway. The build number on these files is still 615 (oops, that'll get fixed for the real release)
Fixes:
Malformed packet causes server to hang
Malformed player name can cause server to crash
Malicious player can force-change an opponent's team
Malformed packets can DoS server or use up all player slots
As I mentioned before, I have spent a little time to fix these problems that are new and unexpected, but older problems like aimbots are outside the scope of what can be fixed at this late stage. Also, please note that Bungie is not the official source of support for this game; since we have the source code, we are making these fixes as a favor to the fans, but I don't want to imply that we'll be able to spend the time to keep up with any future problems. And the source code isn't ours to give out to generous fans who would like to help fix bugs; like Windows, this is commercial Microsoft software, and there unfortunately aren't opportunities for community revisions.

Thank you for your hard work on this update. I run a server on Game tracker called"!!!!! ROCKETS R {OTH} !!!!!" I reinstalled the server to get it updated. Is there a update for MAC users so they can get into my server. A MAC Clansman friend of mine cant get into my server! Is there a update for MACS?????? Thank you LACK

I didn't actually mean to say I thought Halo PC was better than Halo 3, and even if that did manage to sneak out, at least it was just my opinion, and not being a jackass and trying to "state facts." Also note, I am not accusing you of anything. Also, you can't say that Halo 3 is better than Halo PC, the reason being is that it's your opinion. Now if you realised I was just expressing my opinion (more on this after this sentence), you could have saved yourself the time of hitting that quote button, and then deleting the unrelated text. Besides, the only thing I really said was that the Halo 3 trolls were wasting their time being here, so in effect I have nothing to defend, attack, or even bother posting about, but I choose to do so anyway because it's Tuesday night and I'm bloody bored. [/quote] lol sorry but u cant say halo pc is a better game than halo 3. im saying this cuz i play both, HPC is broken(unbalanced), the biggest thing that i really dont like is how easy it is to Spawn kill, at least halo 3 has an advanced spawning system. im not being a halo 3 troll, im just sticking up for it( i like my three shot death cannon in HPC). But thanks sawnose, the work u have done is amazing, if it wasnt for u and the others who helped u(im assuming u had help....) there would have been alot of communities broken apart cuz of some stupid tool. so again, cheers!

It's nice to know Halo PC is still getting played, I'd be on too if it wasn't for the fact that my PC is disabled by some weird virus, panic deletion, "omg wtf did i do?" stuff. Anyway, over the years I've got myself a better internet connection, and some time this week, a new computer finally (the one I'm on now is 8 years old, uses a 64mb gfx card, and half a gig of RAM). Anyway, looking forward to taking HPC back online once again :) And for the H3 trolls: Ha. Not "Ha" because I think Halo 3 is a weaker game than Halo 1, "Ha" because you've wasted time clicking a few links and venturing into a forum (and bothering to post) where your opinion doesn't count. All right get ready for along post :D I got into playing HPC back a couple years ago with Halo Trial. I soon got XFire joined a league started a clan and got full version. Since I began playing there have been BARELY any new patches... I'm EXTREMELY excited for this one, and to know Bungie still cares about us HPC kids :D. I know all of the kids that were DoS'ng the servers, and I know that they got payed $4 for every server they crashed. I can probably even get you the program used - most likely I'll be DDoS'd for giving it but idc since I used to get DoS'd all the time, and we need a GOOD patch. Just wondering if the patch will be addressing the use of aimbots/wall hacks etc.? I'd REALLY enjoy it if they were taken out. The last two leagues I've been in were shut down because of botters, and I even retired because of them (was in #1 clan of hpc tournament community [HTL4Lyfe). There are thousands of kids that still play. If this patch also addresses the aimbotting issue no doubt I know personally at least 50 people that would come back, and maybe even HTL (website was halotl.com before being shut down because clickbotters (almost invisible aimbot even hard to notice in videos) won the last trny [i knew they hacked me lol]). Also is there any way we could have client-client connections rather than host-client? Lead is the only thing that keeps some kids good (ppl with great connetions can barely notice it, while others have to shoot ________________ ahead of someone for a kill). Now, I hope the patch will fix the botting issue, and hopefully we can get rid of lead. :D If you need me for any reason e-mail secretagentj57@aol.com.. Need proof I played youtube hdwblade... Have you applied the most recent patch to your servers to see if it solves the problem? Or it might not be a halo problem at all. Might just be someone DoS'ing the server.

I dunno if it'll even be possible to fix something like this but recently someone has been flooding some servers to crash them.This guy seems to know how to redial ports, and a few other tricks up his sleeve... Perhaps someone else has more info on this clown than I do...?

Yea same here, ALL HAIL BUNGIE IN THEIR JIHAD AGAINST THE WORLD........speaking of that...when will the giant catapult be ready, seeing as you should launch all of the foos FTPing their xboxs and copying Halo 3 and Halo 2 to PS3?

come one people is it that hard to add an custom resolution to your short cut... here add this: -console -Vidmode 1440,900,60 -novideo change 1440 and 900 to your own so if its 1600 1050 than it is... find the fov tool somewhere at internet if you need that... and you can force the shadders to 2.0 or something you like and the game starts an few seconds faster(without quality lost or something it just makes the game not look if your gpu supports 2.0 cause you tell the game it does even if it doesn't).

Seeing this show up on the front page makes me feel great. Halo PC is what brought me into the world of PC gaming, and I'm not about to let it get washed away by fools who think this game is unworthy of lasting forever in the memories of not just me, but all who share the experience. This game is far from dead, but looking at the past also makes me look at the future. I DO have an expensive, high end PC. But you know what? Halo PC was the first game to make me go out and buy a graphics card. I hope to see more things like this in the future, not regarding Halo 1, but also Halo 3 (when, not if, it comes to PC). Yet, I still cry over what could have been Halo 2 PC, and turned into an ever growing pile of complaints. But there still is and will always be this: We still care.
