A Realistic Trading Option

First off, no, I am not a Christmas noob. I have been playing this game since launch and have three 32's with every exotic weapon in the game. So before you start flaming me for "whining", don't. Now that we have that out of the way...the players of Destiny have been asking for a trading option for weeks, maybe even months, now. Why? Frankly, because the RNG in this game is abysmal. For me, it didn't really dawn on me until about my 5th or 6th VoG clear, back in the old days. I mean seriously, guys, I can't be the only one who's dismantled like 40 chatterwhites at this point, am I right? Thankfully they seemed to have adjusted the looting system for Crota's End, (you shouldn't* be consistently getting cryptographic or glowhoo shaders). But it's not just the raids. It's everything. Nightfalls, weekly heroics, strikes, even crucible. The chance of getting an exotic, or even a legendary, can be absolutely horrid at times. I say "at times" because I have friends who have gotten over FIVE Gjallarhorns, and I have other friends who have yet to get even one. Or take me for examples, I've gotten 6 Suros Regimes, yet I know people who have played just has long, worked just as hard as me, and still haven't gotten one. So what is my point, in the end? My point is simple: This game has been out since September, and you still have people who simply CANNOT get certain items, because they are at the mercy of the RNG and are powerless to influence it. I calculated that there are presently 24 weekly opportunities to get an exotic drop: -3 normal gorgon chests -3 hard gorgon chests -3 normal atheon kills -3 hard atheon kills -3 deathsinger kills (normal or hard) -3 normal Crota kills -3 hard Crota kills -3 nightfall strikes. This is assuming you have 3 characters, if not then you only have 8 chances, or 16 if you have 2 characters. If you're a "casual" player, then you may not even be completing all of these activities on a weekly basis, which means your chances are even worse. Like I said earlier, I've been playing since launch, and I JUST got Gjallarhorn 2 days ago from a legendary engram that I grinded through 50 roc strikes to get (my previous 4 heavy engrams turned into useless ascendant materials). So I played for, what, almost 5 months to get, arguably, the most powerful weapon in the game? That's 20 weeks of nightfalls, raids, etc. 20 weeks of getting -blam!-ing shards, strange coins, chatterwhites, timebreakers, aspects of glass (seriously wtf?), and repeat exotics. 20 weeks of getting kicked in the balls by Bungie as they just laughed in my face and kept raking in cash. So in closing, to the people who STILL don't have that one weapon or one armor piece (warlocks looking for Heart of the Praxic Fire I'm talking to you), here's my idea: -Limit trading to 1 weapon & 1 armor piece per week. -Items must be of the same rarity/value -Must be an item-for-item trade, (no turning everyone into Agents of the Nine with people trading strange coins/motes of light for exotics). -Add exotic engrams to the loot table for weekly events. -Remove ascendant materials from the nightfall loot table. -Remove ascendant/radiant materials from the raid boss* loot tables. (Seriously we shouldn't be getting TWO shards for killing Atheon/Crota. If you're going to give us shards, at least make it a respectable number like 12-15.) I really think this would work. Those who oppose trading say it would "ruin" the game because exotics wouldn't be special anymore. I agree to an extent, which is why I proposed the weekly limit of 1 weapon/armor piece. I mean, what's the point in grinding for an exotic when I can just get on from a friend, right? On the other hand, I feel as though the RNG is outright ROBBING people of getting the full experience they paid for. We all deserve to have full access to the $60 ($80 and rising if you plan on buying all the DLC's) we spent when we bought Destiny. The fact that one player can grind for 10 weeks straight and get nothing but No Land Beyonds and shards, while a Christmas noob can get a Gjallarhorn on their first nightfall (I know someone who actually got this -blam!-ing lucky) is utter nonsense. So what do you guys think? Comment your opinions & suggestions below. Criticism is always welcome, but, please, try to keep it civil.

  • Make it so that when you trade something it loses all of its exp. except nechrochasm, only because it's garbage already and when you up it from the edillon ally it's already maxed. I think there should also be a exotic/legendary weapon and armor maker. You pay acendant shards and energie and you can make a legendary weapon or armor with random perk rolls, and if you pay lots more you can choose from a list of perks and can modify the look, stats(range, mag size, stability, reload, etc) and you can make an exotic but it would be a hefty cost like 15-20 exotic shards. It would allow people to make their own weapon and name it. Again but with a hefty price

If you could trade to get that last item, then what keeps you playing the game? I say the only way trading should ever be allowed his through a gifted exotic bounty. If you want to swap w/ someone, you send them a card to get a bounty to unlock the item. Then you just gotta grind it out and earn it. Fair and balanced.

  • The only way it would even begin to work is by limiting the trading. Even if it is only once per day. Or else it would get out of hand real quick. Even then I don't really agree with it. And I only own 7 exotic weapons.

  • I've been over this in other posts. There's simply not a large enough loot pool to make it worth it. Maybe if the stats on weapons and armor could vary wildly so that no two pieces were the same, it could be a possibility. In addition, there's no resource that could work as a trading currency. I.e. the current glimmer cap and acquisition gate for strange coins. I'm not saying trading couldn't work, but it sure as hell wouldn't work with the system that's in place now.

  • If they make it so you CAN'T trade any exotics or anything obtained from the raid, then I say go for it.

  • Listen folks, if you don't want trading, than don't use it. It's that simple. People who say that trading would "ruin the game" need to learn to speak for themselves, and develope some self control. If you think trading would ruin your personal game experience, than just DONT USE IT. It's that freaking simple.

    • I think we should definitely have trading as it will open a can of worms that can -blam!- this game up even more, I guess I should really call it pandora a box because that's what it is and we should do it and we should also nerf all the guns and remove all supers from the game and if there's only 1 gun like say nechroshit would be perfect that way everything will be fair and all the PvP bitches will be happy even tho everyone will stop playing destiny, bungie and all the PvP crybabies will finally get what they want and because no one will play anymore then destiny will be a great memory of the game it could have been and the disaster it's turning out to be and will be, mainly because of bungie, PvP bitches and crybabies! And then destiny will have come full circle to the culmination of its true destiny! That would be an awesome ending! Don't you guys agree?

    • Or just no trading exotics... Keep them exclusive to the one who earned/found them, but make everything else tradable. With some limits on already upgraded items. Can't trade upgraded weapons and armore and can't trade exotics. Simple

      • Things the system would need to fulfill needs: •Noob Giver- A major problem would be players in the tower giving noobs exotics right? So how about you can't trade items until level 15 or so That's it... That's all it needs bungie.

Wow, what a mess! Just make a decent rewards system in a game and you don't need to worry about acquiring someone else's gear!

            • Are you sure you have your exotic locations right? I thought once you hit any chest on normal that you wouldn't get anything from hard when you hit it again.

              • Arguably the best? Nah Gjallarhorn IS the best. And one might say that trading would break the game, and it may, if it were a free trade for anything. But, if say, these were to be put in, well, people with the "game-breaking" mindset, I want to know what you think. 1.) Bounties. Simple. For one trade, you have to grind out a week or two's worth of bounties, say 4000xp everytime. That way it adds a wise decision mindset. 2.) Same level trade. Pretty sure there's a word for it in RPG's somewhere, but my ideas are Exotic for Exotic, Legendary for Legendary, and so on. This would counter the whole "20's would instantly get everything" shit. They'd have to be incredibly lucky to get something Exotic. Some will, and if they do, they could get shit, like 4th Horseman. Someone who's a collector could have an extra Mida sitting around, could trade if they can get one. They both win. 3.) Time Played. The person you trade with, maybe needs at least 10 hours played with before you can trade? Or a set amount of things completed? Preferably the second so they have more emphasis on not tying an analog down an going to sleep, and actually playing. 4.) Set times for next trade. After your 4000xp, a timer starts. What is the timer? Time for your next trade with your previous friend. you can't trade with them for another week, adding more emphasis on a wise trade. Thoughts? I think it would work.

                  • as much as trading would be beneficial for a lot of people in this game ... It would also ruin the game ... It wouldn't take long for people to exploit a glitch where weapons get duplicated and so on .... That's why you will never see trading in this game.

                  • Even this would be abused. My thought is to have post event trading. For example, If you run VOG with a group, you can trade rewards you get from that event with other people that ran it with you for rewards they got in that same event. No ebaying a ghorn. No weapon swapping. No noob gifting. But would allow people to swap duplicates. I think this would be the system with the smallest chance of abuse

                      • I just posted this on an IGN article about trading, and I think it is a good idea so I'll put it on here too to spread the word.. The one thing they should add in reguards to this is a guild bank. Let's say you have 3 Gjallahorns/Icebreakers/Mythoclasts/Surous and you want to let one of your clan mates use it while you do the raid, play some matches of skirmish, etc. You then just put it in your guild bank and they can pick it up. At any time you can take it back into your inventory and they cannot break it down or level it up. Also, that person can only pick up one gun at a time from the guild bank, and if there's only one gun in there only one person may use it. The reason I think this is a good idea is because when I raid with a few of my friends, they are not that useful without one of these even though they are solid players. It would level the playing field a bit and it would not break the rng system because they will still want that gun for themselves. Also, it would give a good reason to be in a guild instead of only being used to get two achievements/trophies.
