So I have been using Kog Maw and basically my strategy is... get a freaking enormous attack speed. And it's working! I get a ton more money and champions can't run away from me in time when I nuke them then follow with rapid auto attack. I just went positive for the first time ever! 7 kills 5 deaths 7 assists!

Attack speed is great, but you need to make sure to build damage as well or else it's pointless. Some champions like Teemo can get away with building mostly attack speed because they have attacks that have on hit affects (Teemo's attacks poison the enemy, hurting them over a period of time), but since Kog Maw doesn't have such an abillity, it makes sense to build some damage in the form of an Infinity Edge and or Blood Thirster.

You were probably viewing the reccommended items by default, there's a tab you can click to view all the items together and sort them. It can be found under damage, it's built from a BF Sword and a Vampiric Scepter, which itself is built from a Long Sword. It looks like that. Lifesteal is great because it heals you for a percentage of the damage you deal. The Blood Thirster can get you a ton of damage and a ton of life steal if you kill a lot of things with it, the blade grows stronger as you murder, but it loses half of it's stacks if you die.
