Destiny Weapon Tuning or Destiny Weapon Ruining

Dear Mr. Weisnewski, There is folly is your proposed 'tuning'. You state, "Looking at raw DPS [damage per second], the Auto Rifle is the most lethal primary weapon class across all of Destiny’s activities." Of course it is. How can you possibly compare the DPS of a player holding down the trigger for the auto rifle with the speed at which a player is able to repeatedly pull the trigger for non-automatics? It is a flawed analogy. It would be like comparing the use of an electric air pump with that of a bicycle pump. There is no surprise one is faster than the other. I am also confused by your changes to the hand cannon. I, of course, am biased. I love my Hawkmoon. But you state, "We’re finding that players get very comfortable hanging back and using the Hand Cannon like a Scout Rifle or a Sniper Rifle." Have you ever tried sniping a moving target with a hand cannon? It is no easy feat. And it's no surprising players use hand cannons like scout rifles - they are essentially the same weapon. The only difference being the scout rifle has more range, more reserve ammo and a larger clip. So with these changes you propose, the hand cannon will now add even less range to the limitations it already has of a small clip and less than 100 rounds of reserve. Your changes are effectively turning the hand cannon into a single barrel shotgun. Seeing as shotguns already have a role, this change, this 'tuning' makes no sense.

  • Well when you have hand cannon can 1 hit and they primarily kill in under .54 seconds compared to the average scouts .9ish seconds you can see why they want to nerf a gun that completely. The hand cannons offer some of the fastest kill times while retaining the majority of the kill potential that other guns have which is around 3 kills a clip. Then you apply that to the fact range limiting does not exist on them like it should and you suddenly have a bunch of guns that preform in many ways far superior to scouts. Its because guns like TLW, Hawkmoon, and Thorn that this happened also a general realization that holy shit hand cannons are not held to a certain range of effectiveness. Does a Thorn user think twice about entering into close combat? Nope, three shots and probably dead. Does the Thorn user say man hes too far away to shoot? Nope, two head shots and hes dead. Does a Thorn user have to think wisely about whether or not he has to switch his weapon based on the map? Nope, all areas check. That response is way different different than a person who uses scout riffles and pulse riffle. Bungie took a lot of steps to insure that these guns weren't to powerful like in Halo. Though it was probably a mistake. Now Bungie is just realizing what happens when shit goes unchecked. BTW this game has a lot of nerfing left to do, and I mean a lot. So you can either except that the way you play might change or continue to be of no help.
