*SPOILERS* Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin (pre-update thoughts) *SPOILERS*

So for people who have played Dark Souls 2 since they added in the Scholar of the First Sin NPC, what is your opinion so far on the upcoming massive update? Honestly, even with just the addition of the SotFS, we see some interesting lore introduction and I was actually quite shocked to learn that he was none other than Aldia, having broken the cycle and now immortal (considering after you kill him he still communicates with you). Not only that, but I feel that he almost hints at a Dark Souls 3, as he says that was trying to find an alternative to linking the fire or bringing about the Age of Dark, and your character can now choose to abandon the fire in order to find a solution to end the cycle, which I think is a big hint for Dark Souls 3. Also, the optional boss fight you have with him reminds me of Gwyn's fight from Dark Souls where you have a very predictable boss with fire based attacks. The music even makes it truly feel just like the Dark Souls final boss, which is honestly my favorite thing so far about the pre-update.

  • At first, I was kinda disappointed that the new enemy placement wasn't in the update, but I got over it. I really liked Aldia. His boss fight was pretty cool, his design kicked ass, and his lore was awesome. He's the only one who's truly broken the curse, though we see that might not be a good thing. From what I understand, in getting rid of his curse, Aldia also got rid of his default state. It turned him into some shapeless deity. I also really liked how he talks to you even after you've killed him, showing that he's free of the limits the curse used to put on him.
