  • A mass composed of the earths mantle and a planet which collided with earth at the start of the solar system. It orbits earth as a natural satellite.

One night, a long time ago, your great-grandfather walked outside. He saw a bright star shining in the night sky and wished earnestly and wholeheartedly for his strongest desire. He did this once a night, every night, for a year. But his wish was never granted. This broke him. He became angry and bitter, blaming this distant ball of gas for his unfulfilled desire. Your great-grandfather wanted revenge. So, for an hour every night for 10 years he worked and trained and persevered for his desire to exact vengeance. Finally, on the last day of the tenth year he was ready. He walked out of his home that night, picked up the first rock he saw and threw it at the star, the star that never made his wish come true. The rock flew out of his hands at an impossible speed and began its journey to that star. Many years later, the rock made its destination. This tiny, inconsequential rock impacted the star in all its velocity and did...nothing. It didn't hurt the star, it didn't move it, it didn't change its composition in any meaningful manner. But the star noticed. For many years the star watched your great-grandfather train in his unfounded hatred against the star. And for longer than a human lifetime the star watched the rock pass other planets and stars and galaxies to make its way to it, carrying with it a bitter man's hate. The intention of the act, and not the act itself captured the star's attention, and drove it to fury. In return, the star threw it's own pebble back through the cosmos. It sped past planets and stars and galaxies to make its way to Earth. However, the star, despite its age and power and wisdom, has no hands; it couldn't throw its pebble with complete accuracy, and it missed the Earth by a hair. The rock was captured by the gravity of the planet, and so it spins around the Earth to the constant dismay of the star, yet a constant reminder for humankind: for the former, don't grant wishes to fools, and the latter, don't seek revenge against billion year objects that by no right should have sentience. And that is how the moon came to be, child.

          • Alright son/daughter, (Year 2074) The moon as you see as it is tonight is a mythical creature known as a "Pokemon." I grew up with these creatures. Fighting with them, growing with them, and even trading them. But one day, the mythical Pokemon lords from Galaxy Omega has taken the time to fly to our world. (Shows the craters outside that was actually caused by World War III) They did that to our world. They even took away all our Pokemon and let them live peacefully away from Human contact underneath the Moon's surface. We consider the moon a Pokemon for the fact that 2 Legendary Pokemons have fused themselves with it. Legend says, when they feel trouble approaching, they will use their power to protect their little brothers/sisters by creating a force field around the surface. Till this day, no one has made contact. Closes Book (2015)

              • The Moon (Latin: Luna) is Earth's only natural satellite.[e][9] It is one of the largest natural satellites in the Solar System, and, among planetary satellites, the largest relative to the size of the planet it orbits (its primary).[f][g] It is the second-densest satellite among those whose densities are known (after Jupiter's satellite Io). The Moon is thought to have formed approximately 4.5 billion years ago, not long after Earth. Although there have been several hypotheses for its origin in the past, the current most widely accepted explanation is that the Moon formed from the debris left over after a giant impact between Earth and a Mars-sized body called Theia. The Moon is in synchronous rotation with Earth, always showing the same face with its near side marked by dark volcanic maria that fill between the bright ancient crustal highlands and the prominent impact craters. It is the second-brightest regularly visible celestial object in Earth's sky (after the Sun), as measured by illuminance on Earth's surface. Although it can appear a very bright white, its surface is actually dark, with a reflectance just slightly higher than that of worn asphalt. Its prominence in the sky and its regular cycle of phases have, since ancient times, made the Moon an important cultural influence on language, calendars, art, and mythology. The Moon's gravitational influence produces the ocean tides and the slight lengthening of the day. The Moon's current orbital distance is about thirty times the diameter of Earth, causing it to have an apparent size in the sky almost the same as that of the Sun. This allows the Moon to cover the Sun nearly precisely in total solar eclipse. This matching of apparent visual size is a coincidence. The Moon's linear distance from Earth is currently increasing at a rate of 3.82 ± 0.07 centimetres (1.504 ± 0.028 in) per year, but this rate is not constant. The Soviet Union's Luna programme was the first to reach the Moon with unmanned spacecraft in 1959; the United States' NASA Apollo program achieved the only manned missions to date, beginning with the first manned lunar orbiting mission by Apollo 8 in 1968, and six manned lunar landings between 1969 and 1972, with the first being Apollo 11. These missions returned over 380 kg of lunar rocks, which have been used to develop a geological understanding of the Moon's origin, the formation of its internal structure, and its subsequent history. After the Apollo 17 mission in 1972, the Moon has been visited only by unmanned spacecraft.
