After hearing a lot of crying and complaining from level 30+ players getting killed quickly by level 25-, I decided to make this quick explanation.
Most people miss the point of how Iron Banner works. It's supposed to give high ranked players an advantage while still giving low ranked players a fighting chance.
Here are the basics of how level advantages work:
Weapon Damage Rating = Affects how much damage you deal to enemies.
Armor Defense Rating = Affects how much damage you can take from enemies.
So, if you're a level 20, but are packing fully maxed to 331 exotic and legendary weapons, you can still destroy enemies. Why? Because your weapons have a HIGH DAMAGE output.
As a level 20 (to continue the example) you will also be dying much, MUCH faster. Why? Because your armor has a LOW DEFENSE rating.
The opposite is also true. If you're a level 32, but are using blue and green guns, you'll be able to withstand a lot more incoming damage, but you'll have a lot of difficulty killing other enemies at your same level.
Hope this helps!
Now go and "Show them the true meaning of war!"
Cheers!

This is exactly how I've always understood the way the Iron Banner works, as well. I know Bungie has mentioned this once or twice right after the first Iron Banner. No, I'm not going to go look it up for anybody who doubts this is true, either. Look it up yourselves. Iron Banner doesn't not operate like PVE. If getting killed too easily by lower leveled players with maxed out guns hasn't told you that by now, I don't know what to tell you. It's obviously a different damage system than PVE and Crucible, so why not do the research and find out exactly how it works and adjust your loadout and gameplay accordingly. What works in Crucible doesn't necessarily work in Iron Banner, so adjust fire. Too easy.

1 ReplyYou also need to add: Do not cap flag A on Blind Watch EVER If you hold 2 flags, don't go after the 3rd one Do not capture flag C on Firebase Delphi
-
3 RepliesIf you're dying to players Level 25- as a Level 30+, you're doing something wrong. Handcannons practically two-shot at that level gap and Scout Rifles kill in three.

3 RepliesEdited by Tony_Tekilla: 1/15/2015 3:08:21 PMI'm very sure the amount of damage one deals out also depends the players light level. At 20 you are doing about 66% less damage to anyone 3 levels hight than you. I'd this into your guide. Each level removes 33% damage and capped at 3 levels

1 ReplyI played my first iron banner finally (been playing since release but never ventured into the pvp world). I'm a 32 and I'm glad you posted this, mostly because I was really confused on what made it different from regular crucible. Thank you

1 ReplyGreat guide but iron banner is a huge salt fest.

11 RepliesFinally, someone understands. The amount of "I'm 31-32, how is a 22 killing me in two or three shots with a Thorn??!!?!? I should be appearing with '???' above me like a yellow boss! Iron Banner is broken!" ...idiots.
