  • YUGA is an excellent clue. The concept of Yuga is of Hindu origin. It tells of the world going through great cycles (~14k years if i recall). The 'dark' half is unironically called the Dark Age, which the better half is called the Golden Age. Each Golden Age cataclysmically comes to an end, leading into the next Dark Age. Another Rasputin card calls for YUGA SUNDOWN after Operation Fenrir Heart fails. He then formats moral structures for MIDNIGHT EXIGENT. Basically this means that Rasputin has analyzed the Darkness and found that there is no way to fight through it. So he analyzes all possible outcome scenarios and the only path forward is horrendous. Let every human under his protection die: except those protected by the Traveler. There is debate on this, but many believe that Rasputin attacked the Traveler and crippled her, so that she could not flee and would have to face the Darkness. That's where MIDNIGHT EXIGENT comes in, one must assume that Rasputin's moral format is to protect humanity at all costs. But there are scenarios where killing 1000 to save everyone might be needed. These are the MIDNIGHT moral formats that only Rasputin can make. Exigent means demanding. Therefore, this MIDNIGHT moral format is so demanding that to save humanity as a whole, it requires the sacrifice of almost the entirety of the population. Basically Rasputin decided: 1) Let 99% (or more) of humanity to die 2) Injure the Traveler so she cannot flee 2a) Let Traveler gift humanity with powers she has withheld 2b) Let Traveler protect a small group of humans until humans are ready to grow and take back the solar system 3) Make other Warminds go dark and format for a long recovery 4) Wait until the Darkness has passed 5) Reactivate and begin scouring the system with Super-enabled Guardians formed by a wounded Traveler desperate to save herself That is a morally reprehensible series of actions to take, but we have to note, it was a astoundingly successful. It took humanity a few hundred years, but we have a humming city, and thousands (millions maybe?) of Guardians who routinely kick ass of the biggest, baddest monsters the servants of the Darkness can throw at us.

  • Morally reprehensible, but as RT reminded us with the Director... "... it is an undeniable, and may I say a fundamental quality of man, that when faced with extinction, every alternative is preferable." ~Leonard Church, RvB I like this post, bump.

  • I think the concept at play is one of choice: do you save humanity at horrendous cost and breach every single ethic and moral you've ever had to do it OR do you fight a losing battle trying at each turn to overcome odds stacked against you and fail but die with a clean conscience? We tend to forget that Rasputin DID have this option: Just fight until everything is dead. He almost certainly would have failed to protect humanity if he used this route. But he wouldn't have left most of humanity unprotected, he wouldn't have attacked the Traveler. His conscience would be 'clean.'

  • Sorry for the late reply. This depends on how you look at it. Without Rasputin's actions, there would be no city. Instead of allowing the Traveler to flee. He keep it here to fight off the darkness. With whatever power it had left, it created the ghosts, and in turn, Guardians. Rasputin must have known this.
