I'm sorry to break it to you guys but ruin wings fails horribly when it comes to exotic armor. There is absolutely nothing "Exotic" about this exotic.
All it really is, is a legendary in an exotics clothing.. the perk "Seeds of Ruin" DOES NOT WORK!
I have better luck finding heavy ammo without it then with it.. if anything it decreases the chance of finding heavy ammo.
I strongly recommend not wasting your time and efforts into upgrading it. Hopefully bungie fixes whats supposed to a bad ass exotic and turn it into "Useful" wings instead of "Ruined" wings...
EDIT 1: It seems like the comments are split, some people are in the same boat as me and others are swimming in seas of purple ammo. I've come to a conclusion that Ruin Wings works when it want to, with that being said an exotic should not decide to not work when ever it feels like it, it shouldn't drop 1 box of heavy ammo in 1 strike run and 24 in the next. If that's the case its almost as good as not wearing it at all.

Sorry but I've been swimming in purple ammo, did Crota's end using only my gjallarhorn
-
I'm with you brother. I feel like armamentarium drops more heavy ammo that ruin wings.
-
I don't have this issue. All I drop are heavy.
-
I ghorned the entire omnigul strike with ruin wings.
-
It works from time to time. Just did the nightfall and it rained loads of purple. It's a weird exotic it is :| .
-
I wore them a few times after leveling them all the way up and actually went an entire Undying Mind strike without a single purple drop. Wore them a few more times and saw less ammo than I did without them. Haven't put them back on.
-
I was all for the armamentarium but these ruin wings more than make up for the loss of an extra grenade. Personally though, they seem to be inconsistent at times but they do work as advertised most of the time.

1 ReplyYou never notice the different until you use the Ruin Wings for a long time and then switch to another exotic.

Edited by pass_tha_adobo: 12/25/2014 6:43:58 PMDude I know how you feel .... I was thinking the same thing and all of a sudden I really start to pay attention and watch all purple drops with and without that exotic. I have to say, I can tell a huge difference when I'm wearing my wings. I tested it using my corrective measure (which has the ammo surplus perk) and I noticed a lot of purple drops. Then I switched to another machine gun thunderlord and the purple drops was not as numerous but there was still plenty, enough to use my thunderlord in each encounter. Every time i pick up a purple drop I'm amazed at how much ammo it gives. I use the heavy gun through out the match. So don't pick up all your purple at once, finish off 2 clips then go back to your drops. Each purple ammo drop basically fills you up. P.s. Don't give up on ur wings man ! They work

Have been saying this to everyone aswell. At least my gear doesn't work. Yes heavy ammos are bigger in size but the rate of drop seems WORSE.
-
Seems when you do something "awesome" more everything drops. FoH into 10 mobs, ammo and engrams rain.
-
Seems to work for me. I can often use nothing but heavies in a strike
-
I see heavy ammo ALL of the time. Not one pack has less than 3 rockets, sometimes they have 5. They are dope.
-
I have noticed that the drop rate is not noticeable only when you have another weapon/armor that increase drop rates. When wings are the only item equipped with a drop rate perk for heavy, I can pretty much run my launcher as a primary. Mabe a glitch? if so, bungie needs to patch it.
-
I dont know. Maybe your game was bugging. Whenever I drop fists of havoc it rains orb and purple ammo.
-
2 RepliesSomeone should test this: Run Ruin Wings with a rocket launder / machine gun that has the "surplus" perk. Count your drops. Run with Ruin Wings with a heavy weapon WITHOUT surplus perk. Count your drops. I just want to know if the drop rate interferes with this perk, or at least the high heavy ammo stacking gear.
-
Dude, I have them and it's like "prince" is on my fire team! All the game music has been replaced with "purple rain"!
-
But it shouldn't drop heavy everywhere either. That would be game breaking. I love the things. They do the job well enough that nothing else I have or want compares. Machine gun or rockets always trumps grenades for me as a pve player.
-
1 ReplyI dunno what you're smoking but. ...ruin wings on my titan drop crazy amounts of heavy
-
Bought them only to get only to get to 31... Not really a big fan of how they look and it seems sometimes they work and sometimes they don't ... I have noticed killing enemies with my heavy seems to get a better chance of dropping ammo. Anyone else notice that? Like I'll kill 40 dudes with my primary bust out a rocket kill a group of dudes and it will drop like 3 or 4 packs
-
2 Repliesis this a troll? I never have to use heavy ammo packs because of ruined wings
-
Well, I got to say that over all I see purple candy on the ground I can't even use. But then there are times in CE that it doesn't seem to stay consistent.
-
Most useful exotic far as I'm considered. I'm not swimming in purple but I sure as he'll see it drop a lot more frequently.
-
My heavy has been my primary since buying the ruin wings
-
heavy ammo definitely falls more frequently. u should see a difference over a large sample not just one strike
-
I feel like the heavy ammo perk works. I was playing the vault of glass for fun yesterday and I was trying to have zero rockets with truth and I couldn't do it. I can carry 6 truth rockets and every ammo pack gives me 3 or 4. And since 1 in every three of vex killed dropped ammo I just never ran out.
