So we've all heard how No Land Beyond sucks and how it's the worst exotic ever and how it's not even worth the shard you get for dismantling it. Well, I acquired one today and while unimpressed with it so far I have faith in this gun's potential. I was just talking about it in another thread when I realised what could be done with this weapon. I bet this has already been pitched, but here we go.
So a huge problem with it right now is the reload speed. Or rather, the reload between every shot speed. Didn't get a headshot? Too bad, enjoy your reload while they recover and run away. So, if I have to reload the chamber between every shot then what, pray tell, is the point in a magazine of six?
Flared Magwell doesn't even speed up the chamber, only the magazine reload. The stats could do with a shifty about, currently the stats are identical to Ice Breaker but there's zero reason to use this over that. More impact would be good, more reserve ammo too since twelve is shockingly poor.
Anyway, I initially thought you could increase the magazine size to be the same as the capacity, but then I realised something. How about a magazine of... one?
Hear me out. You're reloading between every shot anyway, and as it stands it's going to take forever to take those six shots for even Flared Magwell to be useful, even longer if you're as bad a shot as I am and Mulligan keeps adding them back to the mag. But if the mag and clip reload were the same thing...
Starting to see what I'm going with this? But wait, there's more. I just mentioned Mulligan, and the downside of that perk on this gun is if you get another shot granted directly to the magazine you've still got to go through the tedious bolt action reload to get that shot, and the chamber reload is slower than the clip reload!
It's not useful in any way and should be gotten rid of. What would I replace it with? FINAL ROUND.
Hopefully you're starting to see it all coming together. Final Round means the last shot in the magazine does 33% bonus damage, and if the clip size is just one then every shot is the last shot. Thus offsetting the currently underwhelming damage and basically turning No Land Beyond into the biggest high risk high reward weapon.
You'd get big damage from hitting the target and additional damage to the next if it's a headshot kill (plus a slightly sped up reload between each shot if you run with Flared Magwell) but you have to wait between each shot anyway making you a sitting duck.
I think we can all agree No Land Beyond needs work, and sure in practice this might be impractical but in my head it's beautiful. So, tell me what you think. What you would do, how you would change it etc.
Oh, one more thing. You could replace Mulligan with Outlaw instead (precision kills increase reload speed) for a different kind of risk/reward system but I think combining that with Flared Magwell would be too much. Since it can't have both I'd go for Final Round and make the user really think about their shot and what they do afterwards.
tl;dr version
Change clip size to 1.
More impact.
More reserve ammo.
Replace Mulligan with Final Round.

Since its a bolt action . Should be 1 bullet and have an impact of an ice breaker
-
They just need to increase the speed of cocking back animation, then adjust the iron sight so it didn't block the view and finally a body shot will stagger the enemy with a cooldown of 3-4 seconds before your next shot will stagger them again so as not to stun-locking enemies infinitely.
-
Here's my idea: Instead of mulligan, precision kills increase rate of fire (ie cock back) and flared magwell is replaced with a much better staggering rounds which last for about 4 seconds when triggered Make the cock back the reload with 1 bullet clips The Master perk is tweaked so the precision damage is still greatly increased but the second of the upgrades is 2x damage to majors and ultras.

How i would fix it: Remove it completely its that bad

Yesssss Bungie here this wise man out!!!
-
With raid matchmaking. Fixed

They also need to take off the ridiculous zoom level of the iron sights.

Edited by Hektik: 12/19/2014 12:42:27 AMWell put. I'm guilty of shaming the gun without real feedback. I think that with the bolt action it should t have any reload, like icebreaker Also another issue with this weapon in pve is that typically primary guns are for crowds and less for a boss. So when you've got a primary that is poor st crowd control and a special that isn't exactly ideal for crowds either. Basically it isn't a pve weapon at all. So any buff really should focus on PvP. I dunno just seems its niche

Definitely need to change that god awful iron scope
-
Change clip size to 1. Max impact. Same ammo. Armor piercing rounds(even passes through elemental and physical shields). Keep the 2nd and 4th perks. Sounds more fun to me.
-
No need to fix it. It's an ancient standard, rusty and useless gun. It was intended for it to suck. You dont think you could take an old winchester, then go with it against lets say...Murmur and expect to win?
-
What a neat idea!

The only issue I have with it is it's terrible ammo capacity. I think that the bolt should be sped up by speed reload The ammo should be 6/18 Mulligan should be replaced with precision kills increase reload. And agility should be replaced with field scout making it 6/36 And the sights should stay visible when hunters cloak so we can aim it while cloaked.

worst yet after you fire the final round of that thing you do the bolt animation THEN the reload animation. I found it can kill simple critters with body shots in one hit Vandals on the Moon but your ideas are good and might help this a little. Also if you sprint before entering the bolt action animation it skips that or switch weapons ect.
