BNG: Why did you remove Materials for Marks?

When I 1st read the patch notes I was excited to see the addition of Marks for Upgrade Materials. Finally I would have something else to spend my excess Vanguard marks on. I always like when games offer you options. If you needed extra marks, you could exchange some materials, now if you need extra materials you could trade in some marks. Of course, that excitement was quickly dashed when I discovered that you REPLACED the (Materials for Marks) with the (Marks for Materials). Why? Do you guys have some personal grudge against choices and options? Why does everything have to be one way OR the other. Why won't you provide multiple options instead of limiting us to just one? Why can't you let your players decide what they prefer to do instead of forcing everything to be all or nothing? Instead of letting people choose if they want to play PvP or PvE, you seem to be trying to push people into both. * Why not just let people enjoy the parts of Destiny they love without punishing them for it? * By replacing the material exchange, people have no choice but to run the crucible if they want to purchase anything from the faction vendors. Where before, if you didn't want to run the crucible, you could farm some materials, trade them in for marks, than spend them on the faction vendors. Well, not anymore... I just don't understand. * Why couldn't you just remove the (reputation/glimmer) gains and leave the option to trade materials for marks? At an exchange rate of 5 to 1, would being able to swap one type of Mark for another really have been so bad? * * You provided so many great new ways to aquire extra materials, than took away the only other feature they could be used for. * Sony online store Xbox online store
Destiny is a next generation first person shooter featuring an unprecedented combination of cinematic storytelling, cooperative, competitive, and public gameplay, and personal activities that are woven into an expansive, persistent online world. • I absolutely agree with this. Materials were NOT a problem for me, however MARKS, namely crucible marks because I prefer pve are slow to get. You swapped them around rather than allowing the player to choose. Asinine decision by whoever made that decision. Bungie, could you now explain the reason to stop and gather materials or open chests on your 'open world' patrol map? Because I am failing to see why you'd bother. It is now more efficient to do the mundane missions and NOT waste time bothering to stop and explore. -blam!-ing incredibly ridiculous design in a game that has so many poor design flaws that have been spelled out to you by the 'players' that play your game.

    • Because you could buy mats with marks then return them for marks. And that's just not a good business model. I understand people used it to get crucible marks without playing crucible, but I don't see it ever being worth that. So much easier to just play some crucible.

      • It takes so damn long to get 50 materials to trade in for marks. Grow a pair and just play crucible lol

        • I agree I utilized this often because whenever a friend needs patrols I farm extra materials I have never been struggling for materials I have always had 400 or more of each. I utilized the trade on my alternate accounts. (PVP is a laggy turdfest) so what now instead of giving me incentive to tag along with friends on their journey and hunt materials. I now am that worthless piece of shit that sits idle on a planet and waits for them to get done.

        • I think the impact of removing the marks for materials is even worse than most people noticed. I mostly used it to buy Vanguard weapons (note, not faction weapons, as I don't like PvP) so that I can dismantle them for ascendant energy. It was the only reliable way to get ascendant energy to upgrade. Now with this path is gone, gaining marks is at a snail pace, making the grind even harder, since it's the only option left. I guess I have to kill Septics-Prime a hundreds time more, am I the only one not looking forward to that?

          • So now not only do I have 1k of plastisteel that I cant use I have all these Materials and can no longer trade them in. This sucks! So now if im only a few points from getting say a legendary Auto-Rifle I cant just trade in 50 mats, I have to go do a random strike or grind more bounties. So does this make loot chests basically useless? yup

          • Agree completely. I really enjoy the PvE experience, but if I have to play PvP I am going to play a game I enjoy. Giving Destiny a break and playing BF4 until Bungie bring back PvE to the game I enjoyed.

            • Sorry for double posting but I believe this is a relevant general response to the subject on hand and the many pvp people who apperantly doesn't get why this is such a strong matter for many of us, I gave this response in a sub string; "A lot of players don't pvp. Four top trending threads in one day with 1700+ responses on this subject alone underscores this. A lot of us don't raid either - this essentially leaves us at max level 29 and it's okay - you don't need to go any higher. But raiding and pvp are where most legendary/exotic drops are found. If we, the non-pve'ers, want to progres levelwise and get appopriate gear we're basically stuck with buying it. Now we only have 100 marks per week and one weapon vendor and one armor vendor. The pvp crowd have these too and 3 other factions and a possible 100 marks extra per week. You could say just pvp. NO! Assuming that you pvp, what if bungie decided that before every crucible match you had to complete a random story mission? That would suck! Bungies official vision was to make a game that caters to everyone, pve and pvp, and encourage but not force either gametype. We casual pve'ers shouldn't meet a locked door or get forced into doing something we don't want to. The grinding for (pvp)faction-gear isn't exactly hilarious, but in my experience, general looting and farming while pve will weekly gain me about 60-80 crucible marks when vendored - thus giving me acces to all faction gear like the pvp crowd - just by playing the game (pve) - the pvp crowd also have acces to strikes/raids where you get vanguard marks. All this basically boils down to bungie alienating the pve crowd - if you don't feel affected or mainly pvp and raid, why are you here? Why would you take away a large playerbases options if it don't affect you personally? As mentioned before these threads have risen very hastely - we're passioned about the game and not a small percentage."

                • I disagree with this statement. This update has made it great for people who love to do both or just one if the old system was still allowed people would spam reputation over n over again. What about people who strictly play pvp it wasnt fair to them to have to go to patrol to go farm materials for their guns to upgrade now its easy to get those. Some people hate grinding youre just complaining because now if you want a set of crucible armor u actually have to work for it damm whiners. The one thing bungie if anything should do if anything is make one or two new factions for vangaurd marks

                  • Couldn't agree more. I don't mind PvP but much prefer PvE. It's good that they've put the option in for PvP'ers to get something for there excess marks but it's totally unfair on the PvE'ers who just what to have fun without getting angry at self resurrecting warlocks hitting them in the back of the head.

                      • I agree. If given the choice between patrols or Crucible, I will go to patrols every time. Now the option to redeem points for patrol materials is gone and I'm forced to play a mode I detest in order to buy armor or weapons. Whose great idea was that? You can keep your PVP. I'm ready to dump this game.

                        • I just logged off Destiny to come here and post this very thread. The patch notes made no mention of removing the ability to sell materials, so I was originally very excited for the update. But when I discovered that it had been removed, I was very disappointed. I had only just discovered that you could sell materials for crucible marks, removing the need to play crucible when I didn't want to, but now I have no choice but to go back to PvP for marks. I want to buy my FWC gear, but I can't without being forced to play crucible. Why? I stick mostly to PvE and don't enjoy the crucible that much. Bungie, let me play the game the way I want to!

                          • Just come back to Destiny now the expansion is out and i have lost a load of vanguard marks I had been saving not realising this had changed. Went to trade in my spinmetal and suddenly find myself with 90 spinmetal and next to no marks left. This should have been made so much clearer, I had no idea and as this is all online I can't undo what's happened. I don't even farm them, just pick up when I see them during play. Put me right off playing now as its left a sour taste in my mouth. :(

                            • I stated this in another post, but this one is much more well thought out. First and foremost, I think Bungie will bring back the Materials for Marks, but it will be tweaked, hopefully better (50 materials for 10 marks, or some such). As an alternative, that I think many would prefer, I have this suggestion. Faction Marks. Earned whenever marks would normally be earned but specific to the Faction for which your class Item is set to. Dead Orbit marks, Monarchy marks, etc. This way, people could build their wallets doing exactly what they wanted to. There would still need to be some kind of cap, however, as this keeps the "balance" that Bungie wants. If you earn your Faction marks from Vanguard strikes, those marks would still count against your Vanguard cap. Same goes for Crucible. The only upside to this method, you could earn your entire 200 mark cap for a faction by playing in both styles. Perhaps this is too OP, but I think its much better alternative to no alternative.
