BNG: Why did you remove Materials for Marks?

When I 1st read the patch notes I was excited to see the addition of Marks for Upgrade Materials. Finally I would have something else to spend my excess Vanguard marks on. I always like when games offer you options. If you needed extra marks, you could exchange some materials, now if you need extra materials you could trade in some marks. Of course, that excitement was quickly dashed when I discovered that you REPLACED the (Materials for Marks) with the (Marks for Materials). Why? Do you guys have some personal grudge against choices and options? Why does everything have to be one way OR the other. Why won't you provide multiple options instead of limiting us to just one? Why can't you let your players decide what they prefer to do instead of forcing everything to be all or nothing? Instead of letting people choose if they want to play PvP or PvE, you seem to be trying to push people into both. * Why not just let people enjoy the parts of Destiny they love without punishing them for it? * By replacing the material exchange, people have no choice but to run the crucible if they want to purchase anything from the faction vendors. Where before, if you didn't want to run the crucible, you could farm some materials, trade them in for marks, than spend them on the faction vendors. Well, not anymore... I just don't understand. * Why couldn't you just remove the (reputation/glimmer) gains and leave the option to trade materials for marks? At an exchange rate of 5 to 1, would being able to swap one type of Mark for another really have been so bad? * * You provided so many great new ways to aquire extra materials, than took away the only other feature they could be used for. * Sony online store Xbox online store
Destiny is a next generation first person shooter featuring an unprecedented combination of cinematic storytelling, cooperative, competitive, and public gameplay, and personal activities that are woven into an expansive, persistent online world. • I wish they'd bring back the materials for marks trade option too. The 800 spin metal clogging my vault is going to get deleted otherwise. The people saying you should have to pvp to get crucible marks are forgetting you can't actually buy anything without commendations so this wouldn't break the game.

    • So they don't have people power leveling their Vanguard level by purchasing mats just so they can sell them for Vanguard rep?

      • At the very least it'd be nice if it was clear what your exchanging it for. I read a forum stating I could exchange materials for vanguard or crucible and was thrilled. I was hesitant to exchange because it wasn't clear what I'd get. My heart sank when I realized I just got more materials... Needless to say I'm not excited to go earn my crucible marks back. Oh well...

        • They are trying to force pve players into that stinking pile they call crucible. Removing the ability to trade materials for rep, marks, glimmer, and exp makes me not want to play anymore. This stuff is going to start piling up like the thousands of weapon parts and sapphire wires I already have, even if I don't go looking for the stuff anymore because the daily heroic and patrol bounties hand them out now. I can understand that some players don't like looting chests, but Bungie needs to also understand that some people don't like their PvP.

            • They could just let us trade Vanguard marks for Crucible marks (at a slightly uneven rate of exchange because you have more opportunities to earn v-marks) Or, they could just allocate marks the same way they do with faction rep for completing missions etc that way if you are wearing a faction item, whatever marks you earn would automatically be allocated so you could spend on faction gear instead of vanguard gear. Doesn't really make sense to me that factions would only except crucible marks. Which is why I also think that faction heads should give their own bounties in furtherance of their goals and reward for that as opposed to just generic Crucible activities that only Lord Shaxx should be interested in.

            • The only reason i can think of them removing materials for marks is to stop people from transferring marks from one char to another by first trading marks for materials on one char then moving those to another char and trading for marks....but if you have a 5:1 rate for materials:marks that'd seem like a poor trade. I've never used my materials for marks but i don't have a problem with people being able to do this if they have too many resources.

              • Because players were to lazy to learn how to collect mats and complained. Bungie gave them a way to buy the mats now, but Bungie didn't want a currency exchange system ie buy mats for Vanguard Marks and selling them for Crucible Marks.

                • The fact that most of you are complaining about this is funny. Do you not know mmorpgs? I'm one to say yes Destiny lacks things, but to trade anything for anything to progress you're level is wrong. In general all fractions should take all marks to fix this issue. You guys need look up what mmorpg game really is, Takes time and grinding nothing more nothing less.

                  • They did it because people were farming materials instead of playing crucible. Who could blame them? Its horrible...

I accidentally traded all of my vanguard marks for spirit bloom because I thought I was trading in what I had collected. The patch notes were vague and I clicked too fast to realize my Vanguard marks were going down and not up. I just figured they changed the trade-in rate to 20 instead of 50. Now, I have 200 spirit bloom which I have never seen any item need for upgrades and 8 Vanguard marks when I was saving them to buy some armor. Bungie should have communicated this better and/or changed "Materials Exchange" to "Purchase Materials". Also, if they want people to play the Crucible more, maybe they should add more/better maps. BTW, I played crucible and it was ok, but I found myself simply doing PVE stuff more often so kind of settled into that groove.

                    • Agreed, we should have BOTH options. Trade in marks for planet material AND planet materials for marks.

                      • I didn't hate the crucible, but I didn't like it either. I found, for me anyway, that farming in order to get crucible marks was a heck of a lot more enjoyable than playing crucible. And now I find ranking up any faction other than vanguard was pointless because I suck at crucible. Destiny should be a game where you can choose to play PvE, PvP or both. We shouldn't be forced to play something we don't enjoy.

Yep now we get to see all the pvp players complain how we suck at PvP and how we shouldn't play but now they have forced us to do it. I couldn't care less about pvp gear but you need crucible marks to buy all other gear if you buy from anyone other than vanguard. If your going to make that big of a change then allow us to buy from the other vendors with vanguard marks instead. I do like the buy it option to get the resources but I would still have liked to have the sell option too. I don't see why we can't have both some us like to farm and collect things it's part of the fun for us.

                      • Sux for pve like all other things, forcing me into pvp. Do I play pvp yes do I like it not really, should I have to play it for bounties no do I yes. So if you only pve you have either your mentor or vanguard quartermaster for gear. If you pvp you have 5 ways to get said gear, thanks bungie I appreciate the way you screw my pve Co op fun.

                      • It has been two weeks now and Bungie has not responded.(Advice from their lawyers I bet) They removed something from the game that we payed for already, that is not cool or legal(unless used to gain an advantage)(TOS), it was not used in that manner. Would these people that agree with the move, be fine with their favorite weapon class being removed, I think not. It does not matter what was removed, it matters something we paid for and own was taken from us. How do players get crucible marks now that are not able to play in the crucible because of Bungies continuing connection issues? bee bee bee b b b b b b b b b b b b b b ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! bee bee You don't fix that shit, then take away our only method to get faction gear. It hurts my mind it is such and idiot move. I just clicked YES to confirm deletion of Destiny from my HDD, I will not be back. I did not realize this would be such a bad experience, theme deleted now also. Goodbye, I do not wish you well.

Hundreds of gamers have already explained how big of a mistake you've made, before long it will be thousands. You have seriously effected my experience playing your game and unless you correct your mistake, I doubt I'll be playing it for much longer.

                        • This person has expressed exactly what I've been thinking. I agree completely with taking the rep gains out of turning in mats. Hell, I'm even OK with removing the crucible turn in. I'll grind some exotic bounties and build up marks to buy faction gear (though I also think the factions should accept both types of marks).
